The menu is kinda restricted and the sets start at $700 per person! They all are very heavily seafood oriented. I'm not such a huge seafood person and I try to avoid beef so I decided to save a little $ and make my own a la Carte dinner - with chicken. Steak, tofu eggplant, veggies and special mintaku salmon roe fried rice. Later on I found out since everyone else ordered beef the chef shared the beef with everyone even though two of us didn't order beef and did a la carte. That was nice, so I got to sample a tiny bit of Wagyu as well as a bit of beef roll. Nothing else was shared though. Highlights; - that Wagyu beef is ... phenomenal to say the least. Just amazing amazing meat. - the onion crunchy sauce they serve the beef with is also really good - grilled chicken steak is really good, tender, and the green onion crunchy garlic topping really works well. - the special fried rice is worth it. - the tofu ... was amazing. That was the surprise. It comes with six huge pieces and they put something that seems like gochujang and green onions on it. Everyone wanted some. - veggies and the eggplant were both good too I would say this place is for very special occasions when you want to go all out and price is absolutely no objection.

You might feel a little lost, a little disorientated by the light maybe, because for the last few hours you've been on a food journey unlike anything you've ever experienced before. But don't get me wrong, it's everything you've wanted to experience and more. First off, a little context: Wa San Mai is huge - it's like its own world on the 22nd floor, covering over 10,000 square feet. There is a teppanyaki side, and a sushi/standard dining side, and another area for settling the stomach. A really wanted me to try the flying fish sashimi here first - mainly because they use the bones and head to make 'chips' more than the sashimi itself - so he asked the server straight off the bat. The server said that the fish hadn't been flown in from Japan yet, but should be arriving in less than half an hour. I'm not sure whether this guy was making Wa San Mai seem more decadent than it already is, but it worked - I was impressed. Of course, we ordered this on top of the mountain of food we had ordered in our set, and were not disappointed - incredibly fresh, and with bone 'chips' that offered a completely different texture to the smooth sashimi. As for our set... hedonism at its gastronomic extreme. To start, we had an abalone and shrimp amuse bouche. Followed by teppanyaki scallop, wagyu steak, sake clam soup, and lobster two ways - teppanyaki and soup. Everything was a masterful show of knifeskill and grill in front of us, by an expert teppanyaki chef. He later refused our cheers of Sake because he said he would be driving a motorcycle home that night, but we made sure to tell him how appreciative we were. After all this, how could we do without the totally unnecessary but traditional ending of fried rice? After fried rice and nearly collapsing onto the hot steel into a food coma, we were taken to another room where we were allowed to indulge in green tea and sesame ice cream for as long as we pleased, accompanied ten minutes later by tea and coffee. This gave A and I a good chance to talk about how delicious and ridiculous that meal was. Sidenote: they've also got those Japanese toilets that have warm up the seats and... um, intimately clean.

Last call is 2:30 and we got there around 2pm on a Sunday. We had wait a little for the bar to clear up. It's a very small restaurant with only maybe capacity for 20 people or so. We ordered a sashimi lunch set and a tempura set and man it was such a great deal! My sashimi set includes almost 10 pieces of assorted fish like yellowtail, maguro, salmon, imitation crab (don't care), but hey they put amaebi and toro on my plate too and that was quite a nice surprise! Not only the sashimi was plentiful and amazing, my set also came with the steamed egg, miso soup and some pickled vegetables! The tempura was pretty good too and I liked the fried fish, very flavorful and tender! The sashimi set cost around $220 and the tempura a little less than $200. The prices are reasonable for the portions and the quality! Very great deal! Just come here earlier and be prepared to wait.

One of the waitress approached us and apologized that they were busy and no seats available. She walked around and came back to tell us that there should be seating at 9pm, and so we told her, "no problem, we will be back then." We walked around the block and went to the mall to kill time. When we got back about 8:50pm, we waited another 15 minutes, which was fine. We could tell it was busy and every seat in the place was taken (they had group celebrating a birthday-- they offer birthday cake!) By the time we were seated, half the place was getting up to leave. Every staff member starts their sentence with "I am sorry.." which they have nothing to be sorry for!-- but just could be their way of being polite. The waitress who took our order was an older lady. She's the one who approached us when we first arrived, who seated us, and took our order. Her English was pretty good, with a very thick accent (of course) but you can understand her. If you couldn't she will repeat herself or try to say it in a different way. She offered many great selections!-- including which needs to be dipped into their special soy sauce and regular soy sauce. We had sashimi of: baby tuna, tuna, salmon, sea urchin, yellowtail.. and a few others I can't remember. And one tuna roll. Their wasabi is delicious! Everything is fantastic! They offer coke, sprite, and orange juice, along with different types of alcohol. The staff is always busy, literally hurrying along. They come over and wipe down the soy sauce drops that are on the table. They switch out your plates once they start to look a little too used, and always makes sure your drinking glass is full. One of the best services I've ever had! I did have to ask for the check, but maybe they do that so you can enjoy your stay and not feel like you need to leave. Our bill was just a little under $250 USD, but that was expected with all the sushi we had, and just what we were looking for. We highly recommend this place!

Unfortunately I was only able to see the happy hour and not the full menu, due to travel restrictions (which I guess served me well). Sushi Kuu is a fairly standard high end Japanese restaurant, of which there are MANY in Hong Kong. It is essentially Hong Kong people's favorite type of cuisine, so it's a really competitive space. The ambiance is quite nice here, so I would recommend it as a place to come after work with colleagues or with an SO or even your family. I've had a lot of things here and most things are pretty good, though fairly pricey, such as the sukiyaki, the sashimi, the sushi, the cod... the cod is probably my favorite. Recently, Sushi Kuu has seen the effects of shrinkflation. For those of you not familiar, this is kind of like inflation, however instead of increasing prices, they keep prices steady but shrink portion size. Personally, I would prefer inflation, but I kind of understand why they do this.

The pork on rice is billed as black Japanese pork chop but is really just deep-fried pork with egg on rice- a staple of any Japanese restaurant. Their sashimi and everything else were fresh and exquisite too! The restaurant is located on the 4th (as I remember) inside Four Seasons in the IFC mall. The lunch sets offer very reasonable prices but your wallet might be broken if you go there for dinner so I suggest you try their lunch first before you take the jump. Lunch sets include teppanyaki, sashimi and tempura sets. Plenty to choose from! I got the Kagoshima kurobuta (black Berkshire from a specific locality in Japan) katsudon (breaded pork cutlets over rice) lunch set which comes with a small bowl of Inaniwa udon. Bonus includes a dessert that was not stated on the menu so make sure you ask! My mom got the tempura lunch set and it comes with sooooo many items and it seems like they never stop bringing out food so id say that one is a better deal than the katsudon, but the katsudon is the best I've had in my life so far!! The pork in the katsudon was so flavorful and was deep fried to perfection! The rice they used was of excellent quality which was also cooked to the perfect texture. Then the egg and sautéed onions... The flavor was just addicting and I finished everything in the bowl! Normally I don't finish the rice! The udon was amazing too. This lunch set is highly recommended! The tempura set includes many items as stated on the menu, but the tempura and the sashimi are the stars of the set, of course. It's good to see they gave us freshly ground wasabi for the sashimi. Score! The yellowtail was very fresh and had the perfect fat/meat cut. Then the tempura. It's the first time I get to sit at a tempura bar where the chef deep fries your order behind the fryer with a big shiny copper lid. He deep fries small batches and we eat as we go. Tempura items include shrimp, mushrooms, root vegetables, etc. tempura is supposed to be eaten when it's piping hot so make sure you choose the bar! Otherwise they'll just put everything on a plate and have the waiter bring it out to you. Food quality was amazing. That doesn't need to be mentioned at this point. If you can, opt for the green tea cake. The chocolate mousse thing was just alright. Amazing service and reasonable prices for the quality of food (lunch time only). Will definitely be back to try their other stuff!!!
