#ThrowbackThursday - Remembering Hong Kong…read more.. Conveniently located at Nathan Road near the Tsim Sha Tsui MTR station, we decided to have our final meal in Hong Kong at Daikiya Japanese Restaurant. It's a very solid all-you-can-eat option with two thick notebooks of pictured items to choose from. The raw and the cooked, the fish and the meat, the meal and the dessert... Sashimi - The usual suspects abound (tuna, salmon, yellowtail, etc.), but they also have hokkigai (surf clam), amaebi (sweet shrimp), Hokkaido hotate (scallop), and nishin (Japanese herring with roe). Served on a bed of ice and decorated with artificial flowers, each platter was well-plated... and delicious! Nigiri - There are plenty of winners here, but let's focus on the one that topped the list - Grilled Scallop with Crab Oil and Garlic. Seared enough to give that burnt flavor, dabbed with crab oil, then topped with roasted garlic... Need I say more? This was the highlight of our meal and, yes, my younger daughter and I had this over and over and over! Worthy runners-up - Grilled Flatfish and Prawn with Black Fish Roe. Rolls - An assortment of maki (sushi roll), temaki (hand roll), gunkan-maki (ship roll), and sashimi rolls was on the menu as well, but we were able to try only a few. The Mango and Soft-Shell Crab Roll was too small and had more cucumber than anything else. There simply were better options to be had. Grilled - Surf and Turf! Shrimp, scallop, oyster, lamb chop, beef, chicken, pork, and even pineapple. The best dish was the Sautéed Diced Beef with Garlic. Perfectly seasoned and cooked medium, these beef chunks were so tender and tasty! Dessert - Gotta save room for some (or all) of these - mochi, macaron, ice cream, tiramisù, brownie, crème brûlée, fruit, nut, and so on. We indulged in their special Milk Top, which had a limit of one flavor per person. We tried the Romantic Moment and Green Tea Harmony, which had soft-serve ice cream, red bean/paste, mochi balls, jellies, and rice crispies. The only way to cap off an AYCE! After restocking on calories, we were ready to head back to the hotel and then to HKIA. Daikiya was just what the doctor ordered to fill up our bellies before leaving. We totally enjoyed our stay in Hong Kong, but we had to wrap up our adventure. It was time to say goodbye... for now...

No wonder HK is the paradise for foodies! 1) The menu was extensive, almost overwhelming (there are 2 books), including sashimi boat, nigiri, tempura, seared fish, hand rolls, California rolls, desserts, anything you can think of! My eyes lit up when I opened the menu like I saw gold. 2) The food quality was very good for the price we paid. Everything raw was fresh and chilled and the rest were all served hot and steamy. 3) Service was super efficient and courteous too. They tried to fulfill all your requests. 4) It can be packed so book an early table. 5) You won't break your bank here to be able to enjoy a quality AYCE. We were all so full at the end. I can't wait to go back next time I'm in HK! I hope they stay in business for a while and keep the quality up! **** I heard the other locations don't taste as good so not every Daikiya is the same.

The ultimate fancy contemporary Japanese cuisine experience, in the tallest building in Hong Kong…read more If you are lucky, you can also get a spectacular view. What an experience. I'm one lucky girl to be celebrating my birthday here with my dearest family, and didn't have to pay a dime (heh). They only serve one tasting menu here, so you don't get to choose what you're having, but you do get to choose what sake to accompany your meal with. You also get to choose the exact sake cup to drink it from. There are 8 savory courses and 2 sweet ones. Quite a few of them are out of this world, including a dish with fresh figs, topped with foie gras, wasanbon sugar and sesame cream, which my dad raved on and on about for weeks after, delicious sous vide wagyu beef that melts in your mouth, and a luxurious chawanmushi (steamed egg) topped with crab and crab roe. The desserts are mindblowingly good as well. There is a candy-shelled pear with pear jam inside, all frozen with liquid nitrogen, and tasted like fresh pears in falling snow. The other dessert is chestnut ice cream topped with shaved chestnut -- as the biggest chestnut fan on Earth this was my absolute favourite, and while I was quite full I still devoured it all. The meal ended with some matcha and sweets, and was such a perfect ending to a perfect meal. I would totally come here again, if only it wasn't so expensive as well. Be prepared to spend a couple grand (HKD) here, but for Michelin 2 stars and the food, I'd say it was totally worth it.

Beautiful night skyscraper, vibe, hongkong city. This ryugin location offers hongkong exclusive menus such as shanghai crabs and few other local ingredients. After the dinner the head chef came out to greet me with respect. Intoxicating and elegant vibe, loved every min up in the 101/F at ICC. I would love to return here on my trip back to Hong Kong.

Looking on Yelp for "sushi," we found Fukumura in the same shopping structure and although it did not have any reviews, we thought we would go. SO GLAD WE DID! My husband eats sushi and I eat sashimi as a general rule. In both situations, we agreed that this meal was fantastic! Not just kind of fantastic, but "holy crap this fish is so fresh I should slap it" kind of fantastic. The sashimi scallops and sweet shrimp were so delicate and sweet and simple perfection. The tuna, the flounder and the salmon were equally perfect and cut in large fat sizes. We sat at the actual sushi bar and were able to see all the cool rolls and items that the sushi chefs were preparing. Quite the art amongst this group of sushi chefs! We ordered veggie tempura and a bottle of cold sake. Cold sake was presented in a cool serving vessel and kept pefectly chilled until the last drop. The staff was so accomodating and on it at the completion of a dish, refilling of tea or reorder of more sushi. A lot of staff, regularly available, welcoming and helpful, genuinely glad that we were there and happy for our business. The restaurant is not large, seating only 50. It does have a small sushi bar that sits about 10 and also a teppanyaki bar that sits about 10 too. Then there is the small dining room and also appeared to have a private back room of some sort. The low ceilings and the llight wooded walls make the place have a warm feel, but there is no sitting on the ground or anything here in some traditional Japanese spots. This is not a bustling area at 6PM on a Sunday, very dead really. We think this place and the restaurants all around it must have a busy work crowd during mid week lunches and such, for again it was dead when we showed up. The whole plaza around Fukumura appeared dead. But don't let this fool you, this restaurant was great and we would defiinately go back. It is expensive, so be warned. We walked out with a bill around $2200HKD for just the two of us, but you get what you pay for. They do have a $600HKD sashimi sampler that included tuna, salmon, shrimp, scallop, toro and something else. We tend to over indulge when it comes to sushi, so our bill can get out of hand. So if you are not getting out of hand, neither will your bill.
