We had a bit of difficulty finding Wai Kee at first as the address was vague. We later found that there are 3 shops all along the same side of the street, all with people lined up outside - this was around 4pm! As my friend and I don't eat pork liver, we just opted for the regular beef noodles. It came out nice and piping hot - a definite good sign. The broth was tasty with the cooked beef, perfect for the winter cold. But I wasn't a big fan of the instant ramen noodles used, although typical of a local cha chaan teng. We also ordered the kaya toast which was absolutely delicious! It's essentially fried thick French toast with kaya (coconut jam) slathered in between. The woman sitting across from us (note: you WILL have to share tables), ordered her own after seeing ours, and had hers topped with condensed milk! People in HK like their food sweet, haha! Definitely worth the try if you're in the area, especially for the kaya toast!

Try the signature tossed noodle with shrimp roe and braised beef brisket and tendon. The tossed noodles are dry but springy, and the sprinkle of shrimp roe gives it a little extra texture and flavor. The beef is moist and slightly fatty. The wontons had a nice thin skin and tasty and fresh filling inside, just like their fresh dumplings. Overall a good spot to get your noodle fix and experience the typical Hong Kong noodle culture while sharing a table with other noodle connoisseurs (or just an auntie or uncle slurping delicious noodles in soup).

Once you get to your turn, the lady #1 will ask what type of noodle you want. Then you stare at your bowl until lady #2 picks it up to ask you what toppings. If you don't speak cantonese, you can just point, but keep an open mind on what you pointed lol. Then, lady #3 will calculate the cost and ask you if you want the final condiments, such as spice, scallions, etc. Once you pay, they will drop off your bowl at whatever seat is open. The prices on the wall advertised wonton mein for $19 ($2.50 US) a bowl and wonton soup for $24 ($3.10 US) a bowl. There were quite a few people inside eating, so we thought we would give it a try. We are glad we did. You get three huge wontons in the bowl and quite a decent portion of noodles to go with it. The noodles were al dente, just the way they should be and the wontons were delicious. An easy way to start? Try a wonton and beef brisket with your choice of noodles. The wontons are somewhat pillowy in texture and full of flavor while the beef brisket is braised well while maintaining a perfectly chewy bite. The noodle variety is good, with egg / rice noodles winning over the crowd though I feel the e-fu noodles take the cake. Lastly, do not sleep on the beef tendon. It's practically butter when done right.
