Don't be deceived by their baked goods after 6pm. In fact, they shouldn't be open this late if their breads aren't fresh anymore! I made a quick pit stop at this bakery on my way to yoga class - just wanted a light carb snack for my 8:30pm class. I bought a red bean pineapple bun for HK$8 - looked amazing at first, golden crunchy looking top. One bite into it and it was so hard, stale and tasteless. The bread was no longer soft, was overdone and I felt like I was biting into a rock. Maybe it's the flour or yeast they used in the dough? The red bean filling had collapsed inside the bread center, leaving a very hard pineapple roof/cave. I'm wondering now if they've even tasted their own creations - how can they even think about serving this in their bakery?!
Next time, I will just purchase my bread bun from Maxim's where I know a HK$5 pineapple bun is delicious anywhere in Hong Kong. read more
