They offer a lot of herbs required in gweilo cooking (flat leaf parsley, basil, rosemary...) at relatively affordable prices. I also like how they have salad greens (mixed, rocket/arugula) that you can bag yourself. On my last visit, I picked up basil, flat leaf parsley, a carrot, and some mixed salad greens, all for $50HK. Portions were bigger as well. Do some shopping at nearby Jason's, Wellcome, CitySuper, etc, and you'll know that's a steal. As a side note, they occupy an actual shop so their prices might not be the cheapest, but I still prefer them because they have good signage in English and it's less of a language barrier for me. Just a heads up, you might be able to find things slightly cheaper at the outdoor stalls nearby.

I discovered Wah Kee Fresh Fruit and Vegetable a couple of weeks ago and have been back every weekend since to pick up my weekly veggie haul. The produce is fresh and unbruised (a feat considering the transportation needed to get them here). What's more - they last! I have never had a to question "is this still okay to cook with" on a Wednesday evening as I'm ravenously chopping up a courgette and throwing it into a pan. What's more - it's a pure delight to pick out the veggies you want. With a local farmers market feel to the shop, you're eyes are met with colour and variety. Want a purple cauliflower? Head to Wah Kee. Want to make a rainbow tomato salad? Well, they have orange, yellow, and even black; not forgetting the selection of average red tomatoes (I typically opt for the Italian). Shopping is easy. Pick up a plastic bowl and hand pick your choice veggies and fruit. Hop on over to the friendly ladies on the counter who will weigh out and total up your spend. They often throw in some free coriander or spring onion. It's my new favourite weekend morning activity, swiftly followed by a cold coffee after my mooch around the markets.

I asked myself this question while I was working on a report and ended up with a detailed piece of research about the wholesale markets in Hong Kong. As you may know Hong Kong imports almost everything food related from abroad and in the case of fruits and veggies, some of them go through wholesale markets before they get delivered to your local shop or supermarket. I asked for an interview and guided tour in the Western wholesale market, which is the biggest ones and what started with some curiosity turned into an experience I learnt a lot from. There is a 50% chance the apple you have at your desk or the veggies you had for lunch passed by this market. And there's a 90% chance that those veggies came from China, unless you went for locally grown ones (then the chance is 2%). But the wholesale market not only deals with fruit and veggies; fish, meat and eggs are also traded on a daily basis. After the interview they took me on a really fun tour around the market: it was around 11am, so the busiest time was over (it's usually in the early morning). Although I missed that, I could imagine how crazy it could get in there. There are 512 stalls! And if you are good at figures, you may picture how much 103,600 tons of fruit is. Well, that's how much fruit they traded during 2013! The people at the market were extremely kind and attentive and I had a great time with them! You can find just about any fruit you would want, including fruit from all around Asia and in-season specialty fruit. When shopping, make sure you walk up and down the street to compare prices and stock before buying anything. You can usually get vendors to match one another in price, or knock some money off the price (especially if you are buying multiple pieces from them). While I wouldn't exactly call it a tourist attraction, it's a nice view of normal Hong Kong life shopping at wet markets for daily food.

Of course, I found it! This place is equal to cross between Whole Foods and Bristol Farms in CA. You'll be sure to find exclusive items you can't find elsewhere. Of course, it comes with an equally impressive price tag. My Maldon Salt cost the same as it would had I gotten it from a specialty store in SoCal such as The Butchery. I was just super psyched to have found it. Other things I like to get from here include: herbal tea and olive oil.

But that's all part of the experience. The best deals are in the middle row, where they sell a dish of seafood for $20 or $25. On the 3rd floor, there are two veggie stalls that sell Brussels sprouts and fresh lettuce, such as butter, frisée, and endives. These are prized items that are hard to find on the Kowloon side and New Territories.

We bought good quality jackets, dresses, pajamas from here from bunch of shops. Also got lots of souvenirs at least than half of price compared to stores in malls and airports. There are many bakery and restaurants near the streets. All selling amazing and delicious looking HK style foods. We had some quick bites while shopping, all tasted so good. I'd highly recommended this area to all tourists looking to pack up their luggage with lots of shopping.

And I'm not going through the pain of finding all the info to have it be deleted just because I didn't review it NOW. Okay well, obviously I have been here several other times but never checked in because the location wasn't on the map! So therefore, I got so caught up in shopping which is probably why I never took pictures. No joke! Grocery shopping in Hong Kong is a whole "new sport" for this marathon shopper! If you ever come grocery shopping with me you will see why. Rant over get on with the review!! The store is located in the bottom of Tower 9 in the Caribbean Coast Phase 3, Carmel Cove building. I do wish I lived in these buildings because of the sheer convenience but I don't so I must schlep my stuff! The actual store is decent for its location. And while beggars can't be choosers, it's almost the best one around this hood! With 2 entrances, the store is definitely narrower than it is wide but very accessible. While it doesn't offer everything, it offers a lot more than a 7-11 or MarketPlace. I can at least get all my fruit /veggies, canned/boxed, dairy, frozen food plus household cleaning supplies and can't forget the wine and beer! It also has a small section of Health and Personal care items as well as basic items for babies. The bakery is small but it doesn't stop me from buying the Japanese cheesecake or individual mini bread-like buns/rolls! I'll never forget my first time going and when I started speaking English to the cashier...the look on her face was priceless! Just for clarification, most do speak English or can understand it...I just catch people off guard because they assume I speak Cantonese. Bless her heart...she helped me bag my groceries and stick them in my buggy!! Now, as soon as I walk up to the counter I make sure to greet them with a warm "Hello!" I still laugh because they still look a little puzzled. Just don't try to ask them too many questions about the food while shopping, most of the workers don't speak English.
