However their savory food is just as tasty. My sister ordered beef noodles and not only is is so flavorful, but the beef meat pretty much melts into your mouth. My smoked salmon salad was one of the best salads I've ever eaten and the entire bowl was empty by the time I was through with it. Quality food and service! Edit: I came back with the sole purpose of trying their desserts (and other savory foods) and it was worth the half hour wait, I'll tell you. We ordered pasta, the cookies and cream brick toast, jasmine milk tea, and brown sugar milk tea with wheat. Pasta: forgot the name but SO GOOD like better than some of the high class Italian pastas I've had in California. How can a Taiwanese cafe that specialize in dessert create such divine pasta I don't know but I ain't complaining! Brick toast: 10/10 I'm so used to eating the inside of the brick toast and leaving the crust to the dust because of how hard and flavorless it is, but this is hands down the best brick toast I've ever had in my life where I was able to eat both the crust AND the inside. Jasmine milk tea: good taste, good quality. Good enough for my mom to crave more for it even after being back in California for a week. Brown sugar milk tea with wheat: maybe it's because I'm unable to drink this stuff without getting sick, but my throat started to feel funky after two sips and the texture of the wheat made me feel uncomfortable to drink anymore. Most of their drinks are brown sugar so I wish they had more flavors but maybe this is what they're known for. Everything else is great, though!

English Review: Tea…read morewood is a very refreshing and trendy Taiwanese chain. For me, the teal bluish coloring combined with the wood surfaces provide a very classy and fun environment to eat. My party of 2 came around peak hours ~1:30pm and was seated in about 10 minutes. However because of the lunch rush, was only allowed to stay for 60 minutes. My order: ~$150 HK or about ~$25 US Popcorn chicken - nice and crispy; definitely a lot better than some of its American counterparts Mixed fruit tea - felt like I could have made it at home to be honest; however, they gave a huge load of fruit( Mangos, Dragon fruit, strawberry, blueberry, plums) which made it super refreshing Latte - cutest little coffee art I've ever seen! All in all pretty cute place. A little busy for my tastes but I still had a good time. 4/5 stars :)

After becoming obsessed with Taiwanese breakfast whilst visiting Taipei, I researched where I could get my grubby hands on it in Hong Kong. It was a fruitless and devastating search, as I came up with nothing. I decided to ask my Taiwanese colleague and lo and behold - she stumbled upon Wong Ah Ma Soya! My German friend (read: non-Chinese speaking, like me) and I plotted our field trip to the Hung Hom neighborhood of Kowloon. Once we found the small storefront, the woman working shooed us away with a 'No English!'. Oh, but that didn't stop us. I had prepared for this situation in advance by requesting Chinese translations of the menu items we enjoyed so much in Taipei. I flashed my credentials, and we were allowed to take a seat. Victorious! Though they didn't have the egg pancakes we love so much, we did get to indulge in hot, sweet soy milk and the glutinous rice rolls stuffed with sugary pastry. Both items were every bit as good as we had in Taipei! For the two of us, we paid $40 HKD. That's my kind of breakfast: cheap and outrageously delicious! I think that lady is going to be seeing a lot of us! 2016 goal: She'll have memorized our 'usual'.

Indeed, why would they not? Whether it is the street food found in street markets or proper meals such as beef noodles or taiwanese bento, Taiwan has it all. Having said that I have a secret rule of thumb when it comes to food, that is, I will never eat Taiwanese food in Hong Kong and the same applies to the Hong Kong food in Taiwan. It might be a preconception on mine that the authenticity would very much be lost when the cuisine is introduced to a foreign piece of land; adding to that would be the fact that I have been let down for too many times and have gradually lose faith in it. It wasn't until I have come to this shop coincidentally that I gradually restore hope in Taiwanese cuisines in Hong Kong. I think the best way to tell whether a restaurant is good or not is to try out the basics; beef noodle soup is a staple of Taiwan and it would very well be a good indicator in how well a restaurant prepare their foods. The broth is quintessential in a bowl of noodles and 程班長 does it like no others. Traditional taiwanese beef noodle broth is rich and seasoned with soy sauce, behind the mellow fullness a punch of heat will catch you by surprise, and this is exactly how the broth is like in 程班長; going against the slightly broad and substantial noddles, the two matches perfectly. Whereas for the priced jewel, the meats, which could either be brisket, tendon or tripe or all 3 of them, are all very well braised and are melt in your mouth tender. Last but not least, the pickles that add to the noodle soup play an important role in spicing up the flavors as well as freshen up the mouthful. Thank to this restaurant, may be it is not a bad idea to give a little try on taiwanese restaurants in Hong Kong; a leap of faith is indeed called for nonetheless.

It speaks of our idea of a farm: wholesome, natural, nostalgic, healthful, minus the dirt under your fingernails and the manure on your boots. It makes you think that you are eating healthy and natural, even if you are eating fried chicken or an 8" tall honey toast loaded with ice cream and cream. Don't get me wrong, I don't hate this place. Successful marketing, that's all. It's nice to feel a bit closer to nature and a bit more tranquil just sitting inside the restaurant. And their food is pretty good. We ordered a set lunch, which for $72 includes a drink, an appetizer, an entree (your choice of protein includes beef, pork, chicken, duck and fish! No veg option though) and a small noodle/rice. They hand made their noodles, and the beef is tender, so I really enjoy their beef noodle soup. We couldn't resist ordering the honey toast. It is a stack of 3 thick slices topped with mango, mango ice cream, whipped cream, sauces, marshmallow and more. Quite a feast for the eyes. They bring along knife and tongs to make it easier to make headway into this gigantic tower. I really enjoy the dessert. The toast is crunchy on the outside but still soft inside, so it doesn't hurt my tongue like sandpaper, and has a hint of sweetness. Personally, I think this is a dessert best shared among 3 or 4 people. The two of us got really stuffed putting this away. A significant portion of the menu is dedicated to drinks (tea and coffee) and desserts, making this a great spot for afternoon tea.

SUMMARY After a disastrous first few hours in HK, this was…read moreour first meal in HK and it was better than expected. It definitely cured the hangry in all of us! Would recommend, but don't expect great service here...or in HK for that matter. ATMOSPHERE (5/5) While I could look this up, I believe this is a licensed theme restaurant as evidenced from the cute, cartoon like atmosphere TeaWood restaurant. The place is adorned with cartoon characters in a woody setting. It's very well done and hat's off to the people who put this together. FOOD (5/5) Wife says this is a Taiwanese character that serves Taiwanese meals and maybe because of this, we were very happy with our meal---mostly because we had a really crappy time getting to our AirBnB and the general attitude of people who we encountered along the way (unhelpful and rude). I ordered a tripe based soup with noodles in a beef broth and it was a 5/5 for me. The broth was very clean, not oily. Noodles were perfectly good. Tripe was not over or undercooked. Vegetables still had a bit of snap to it. Really happy with my meal. My wife ordered a red bean dessert that I took a few bites as well. One of the things I liked about that was how perfectly cooked the mochi balls were. All around delicious. SERVICE (2/5) Perhaps this is a cultural thing, so HK people don't beat up on me too harshly for saying this: but even in a more pricier corporate type of restaurant like this, the service is not friendly was not friendly here and especially at smaller mom and pop shops ***anywhere*** we went in HK. Any time we asked a question, there was this sort of disbelief or umbrage that we would ask a question about what was in a dish, what a certain type of ingredient was, etc. RETURN VISIT? If we do return, we'd probably go back or at least I would. Sans the service, the restaurant is good and tourist friendly to a certain point.

Rocky road ice cream, slightly chewy and not so fried bread, whipped cream and strawberries! Yum! A cute place, food came out quickly and servers were polite (you may need to flag them down). Great for a date or catching up with a girl friend!
