Sushi Kuu is a fairly standard high end Japanese restaurant, of which there are MANY in Hong Kong. It is essentially Hong Kong people's favorite type of cuisine, so it's a really competitive space. The ambiance is quite nice here, so I would recommend it as a place to come after work with colleagues or with an SO or even your family. I've had a lot of things here and most things are pretty good, though fairly pricey, such as the sukiyaki, the sashimi, the sushi, the cod... the cod is probably my favorite. Recently, Sushi Kuu has seen the effects of shrinkflation. For those of you not familiar, this is kind of like inflation, however instead of increasing prices, they keep prices steady but shrink portion size. Personally, I would prefer inflation, but I kind of understand why they do this.

For starters the Tofu Salad is really worthwhile- a nice blend of east and west that includes pine nuts, micro herbs and diced avocado. The edamame is nice and hot, but there's enough for 4 in a single serving. The broiled sushi has a nice twist, offering salmon, tuna, scallop, yellowtail all with a simply seared top. The pork on rice is billed as black Japanese pork chop but is really just deep-fried pork with egg on rice- a staple of any Japanese restaurant. Fill up on sushi and order the rice in soup with salmon or plum. A great way to fill up.

For the price, I wouldn't get it again if I came back Akagai arkshell clams: The clams were very sweet and delicate. Would order again. Scallop ebi tartare: BEST dish of the night. Do yourself a favor and get this dish if it's still available. This is a dish where you'll want to cherish each bite and have it last as long as possible on the tongue. The scallop and ebi were sweet and paired well with the uni. The pastry it was served on provided a nice crunchy texture. KFC Sawagani Crab: Think fried small crabs served in a spicy BBQ sauce. The crabs didn't have much taste aside from the crunch. Smoked BBQ Fish Collar: Fish was hamachi and was very tender. The BBQ flavor was nice but got a bit one note after awhile. Unagi chirashi: Flavors were exactly as expected. The unagi was sweet and the pickles added some nice acidity. I'm glad they gave this at the end as it was pretty filling. This wasn't a huge deal but I definitely have never seen that before. It kind of felt like we had ordered for one and were sharing everything. I'm curious what happens if you dine alone here. Not everything here is worth getting so I'd definitely read up a little before visiting to get the best experience. The flower crab is a must. It's worth getting more than one of those. DRINKS They have a good selection of alcohol. I only sampled a few of the sake. Simple and good. SERVICE Good. The restaurant is small and staff is never too far away.
