Thin and translucent to the point of being almost entirely transparent. The fried rice was simple but tasted great. The mapo tofu didn't have that Sichuan spicy zing to it. We, nevertheless, polished it all off. With jasmine tea on the side. Certainly a place to visit with groups, but they have little low seated tables too, if you want a date meal. Fairly quick service and I know I mentioned the language, but our server spoke English. I know I'll be visiting here again. More photos and detail on the blog - vegetarianvoyager[dot]com. Restaurant is located on the 3rd floor of Coda Plaza, it is a good 10 minutes walk from the nearest MTR station, so plan ahead. Seems like advance reservation is recommended for the weekend, as I see lots of people coming during the peak lunch hours. While I do not know what ingredients they put into their dim sum, they were delicious and not filled with mock meat. However, it is a little bit on the pricey side. Cost for Dim Sum was roughly $200/people. This visit to Pure Veggie House definitely changed what I thought about Chinese Vegetarian restaurants. I would definitely recommend this to friends.

It's beyond the turn off on to the family trail, but before you get to the temple. It's basically one of a small chain, the other stores in Wan Chai, Soho, and Disco Bay, selling healthy whole foods, such as qinoa, fenugreek (nope, I have no idea what this is either), kettle chips, organic pasta, Quorn, and icecreams. It's actually a reasonably priced shop, given the products are premium and imported like Quorn, and also have to come beyond "main" HK and onto an outlying island. Produce sells at a similar price to the regular shops in HK. The best bit of this store (which is only at this store and not the HK ones) is the "pseudo" cafe at the rear. It's not a coffee shop, not by a far stretch. It is more like a small seating area where you can have snacks and drinks bought in store. They even have serve yourself teas, which is essentially a cup, a teabag and a kettle, and that you make up for yourself. Remember to make purchases before you enjoy. Beyond the seating area is a small pleasantly decorated terrace overlooking the sea. On a hot day, I like to come for the real fruit lollies and hang out at the back of the shop. It's kinda pleasant to look at the sea, whilst in the AC eating ice lollies. Reminds me of Brighton Beach.

The bakery session is at the entrance that homemade baguette, sunflower bread loaf, whole wheat bread, croissant...Easily can you tell the hand crafted pastry that are not cut automatically. And the best part for me is some gluten-free options. Man, my eyes just sparkled when I saw the 'GF' label. Then the personal health care products which are mostly imported from Europe and the States. Handmade soaps, fair-trade shampoo and now the overwhelming 100% natural coconut oil. I found my German brand xxx shampoo and conditioner which I used to have in Amsterdam. Surprise. And for clean-eating people, the muesli, granola and nuts shelves are heavens. They have house label nuts and cranberries etc., packed in bags and last for a short period which still keeps the freshness. Their wine selection is from Albert Heijn from the Netherlands when I saw the back label. Haha. No wonder some familiar brands merged into my eye level. Organic beer available here. It would be brilliant if they gonna add on the Australian Goat beer ale. Walk further, they have a real cafe that serve soul food. With the terrace facing the Lamma pier, chewing some carrot cake and sip organic Chandoney from South Africa can make a perfect weekend.

May be this is only a Hong Kong thing: for every vegetarian restaurant, there is always a section…read moreat the entrance that sells all those vegetarian dim sums and puddings. Bean curd sheet wraps, veggie siu mai, nori rolls, you name them. Instead of actually going into the restaurant and have a proper meal, I am more inclined to just buying a few items from the take away section and walk as i eat. And this is pretty much a reflex to me to go and have a look at the display cabinet to see what looks good from these vegetarian restaurant. One of the must have items for me is the bean curd sheet wraps filled with mixed veggies inside. The sheet is most often chewy but it is supposed to be crisped up from the frying while the interior stays crunchy and light. However, probably due to the fact that they are made in huge batches, the wraps are very likely to be greasy both on the outside as well as the inside. I have a poor habit of taking a piece of tissue paper and remove the excess grease; not just patting on the surface, but also squeeze the lifeblood out of the roll to make sure there's no oil remain. It is always surprising to me that you need more than one to completely remove the grease; imagine what will happen when you eat all these altogether... I am not sure whether the excess grease is supposed to be part of the eating experience or it is just that I have not yet found the perfect roll yet; but still I am hopeful. Truth be told, the wrap of this joint tasted not bad after me trampling of it using multiple piece of tissue paper.

A restaurant that is dedicated to serving Vegetables and Non-Meat Protein, one would think its a…read morenovel idea as more and more are opting for non-animal product food source in our more environmentally conscious society! Actually, this type of restaurants has been in existence in Hong Kong or China for hundreds of years if not more, it has a religious connection to most of these establishments as they usually are connected to a Temple or a Monastery that are either Buddhist or Taoist. Veggie Palace is categorized as a "private home kitchen" as it is officially not open to the public, all patrons has to reserve and will be contacted by them to go through menu selection. Prices are fixed, Lunch - HK$188.00 / Dinner - HK$268.00 per person Menu items are Omakase Style - as the Chef will decide what is best of the season and also according to personal taste. They will even keep a record of your past visits to make sure that the menu items you had perviously will not be repeated! Highlight items: Assorted Cold Appetizer as you can see from my photo, this has a variety of items, the centre is a mixed salad with julianne of cucumber, mushrooms, black fungus, and pomelo, it is then surrounded by veggie maki sushi roll, thousand year eggs, veggie ham etc. It is served with a light soy & vinegar based dressing, amazingly refreshing and tasty, I believe it is a signature starter that each table will get! And I am sure it will be requested even if they do not offer it in your next visit! The Mushroom & Vegetables Gyoza in Pumpkin Purée, savoury pumpkin surrounds this small package of amazing umami, the natural sweetness of the vegetables are brought to a new hight with the deep flavours of the mushrooms! Looks like a simple dish, but I am sure the Chef puts in a lot of thought and effort to make this a perfect dish!! As you can see, all the items are presented very well, and non of the dishes tasted the same! Contact them directly to make a reservation and discuss menu selection, and I am sure you will be a fan as well!!

We ordered 2 different Stone Bowl Rice set menu items. #2 with Eggplant and #4 with Lion's Head Mushroom (I believe called Lion's Mane Mushroom in the US) We liked both dishes including the accompanying Soup and appetizers. The Eggplant dish was savory without being greasy (Unlike most eggplant dishes cooked in a wok). The Lion's head Mushroom was very umami and had the texture and flavor of perfectly cooked beef cubes. Service was fast, friendly and efficient.

Wonderful Chinese vegetarian restaurant in Hong Kong!…read more I'm so glad I got to eat here before my flight home from HK. The restaurant in Wan Chai was a bit hard to find at first since Google Maps showed that we'd arrived at our destination, yet it was nowhere in sight -- luckily, we'd just walked past it so the location services must've been a bit inaccurate. When I came for dinner, it wasn't super packed yet, but my brother told me that it was extremely busy and they had to wait for a table when he went for lunch, so just keep that in mind if you have a tight schedule! Service was very straightforward and hassle-free. We ordered a fried rice, a soup, and their special buns with soy meat for two people. I've had my fair share of vegetarian Chinese food, and I can say wholeheartedly that the quality of the food here sits well on the better end! Not only was the flavor of the food quite good, it also didn't feel greasy or heavy. The customer demographic looked pretty diverse too, so I'd assume they can at least communicate with English-speakers. However, it can get a bit loud indoors! Overall our total came out to be around 250 HKD (if I remember correctly), so with tip I gave about 300 HKD. Super affordable, tasty option -- and I've heard that their lunch specials are even cheaper! The restaurant is also very close to the Ding Ding bus stop that took us back to the train we took from the airport, so it was quite convenient. Highly recommend if you're a vegetarian traveling in Hong Kong!

I chose pumpkin + some soy protein, celery + tofu stir fry, and a mushroom + lotus roots + more soft tofu variety stir fry. The rice was plenty. And this platter that I ended up selecting came with the standard basic watery soup with three pieces of chunky vegetables and a soybean or two. And almost always, this soup is left untouched by me. But, for HKD 50, this meal is a steal. A lot of people chose to order a-la-carte, which looked so much more appealing :p The celery tofu stir fry was simple - no frills, probably just salt and a touch of pepper. The mushroom, lotus roots and that soft tofu fried balls had some soy sauce, I'd guess. The tofu was very tender. And a simple and non-standout taste. What I didn't like was the texture of the pumpkins. Now, it's confirmed that I don't like this kind. It's probably Chinese. There's only a few vegetables I don't like and this might be one of them. I'm fond of other types of pumpkins, including the Indian kinds, but this one had a texture I didn't quite appreciate. The food was on the bland side, but requesting for some spicy sauce got me a gochujang kind of a sauce that I happily dipped into and ate my meal.
