It might come as a surprise to many, but despite the large number of Catholics in HK, there are in fact very few churches. Not to be outdone by the lack of options, Rosary Church is the spot for Catholics looking to attend masses throughout the week. It may be among the handful of churches in Kowloon, but is the only one in TST.
Like many churches, it is a lot bigger than it looks and like most things Hong Kong, it's often way more crowded than it can accommodate. On Sundays, Rosary can pack as much as 300 people, even though the aisles and pews are super tight as it is. Visitors may find the place to be a tad claustrophobic, but this is just the way things are in this part of the world.
It is highly recommend to come here early, as the masses are punctual and the seats fill up quickly. Depending on the time, services are available in Cantonese or English. For the most part, the place is clean and there is some mild wear and tear on the interior. The choir could stand to be a bit better for weekend services, but folks aren't coming here to listen to music. Overall the facilities are solid and the ventilation is decent given how old the building is.
Parking is nearly impossible and the walk from the MTR is a good 10-15 minutes away. Rosary Church is relatively close to the HK Science Museum and the Museum of Natural History. Irony by proximity anyone? read more
