How to review a gas station??? Gas is $12.97 a gallon. (That is $12.97 US dollars!) No self-service. The attendants let you know which tank to use. Then they pump the gas for you. That's what you get for almost $13 a gallon!! Yikes!! read more

Well a) its a petrol station there really isn't anything to remember and b) its one that I come to most frequently. The second one demands more elaboration, I have been coming to this station for some 12 years now and there is a good reason why I come here all the time: I reckon this is one of the best filling stations in town. Its convenient: Its situated in Prince Edward on Boundary Road- this is the main thoroughfare from West Kowloon to East Kowloon so you really can't miss it. Moreover, it is very well connected to road going northbound (Shatin) and southbound (TST) so you really can go anywhere from here. Its big: Hong Kong is a small place and filling stations can sometimes be one that's been carved into the side of a building complex. This one is a proper size one, with some 4 lanes of vehicles that could fill up simultaneously. It has a proper shop that sells everything from washer liquids to bags of rice so it will feed both you and the car. It has everything: You can take your time and pump up your tires here; plenty of space to do it too and there's a tap down the back so people come and wash their cars here. Need I say more?

The Esso Tai Wai is a big garage in the middle of Tai Wai- you will see that there is a constant queue to fill up here as it is the most convenient site for most motorist. There are something like 8-10 pumps but that doesn't seem to be enough and often cars back out of the forecourt and it creates a traffic jam for the rest of Tai Wai. That I don't mind though- and for a reason. I was here sometime ago to fill up my car. It was a busy day and the attendants were really working their socks off. I went through the usual business of telling them how much to fill up etc (on this particular day I was only filling up a small amount) and I was just looking to get out of their as soon as possible. I was told that the process was done and I could be on my way; I duly did so and was well on my way when I noticed: the needle hardly moved. I thought this was mechanical thing and maybe I could just wait it out. Then the phone rang- it was actually the station attendants who had tracked my number through the points card, they called me back saying that they hadn't actually filled up my car yet (though I have already paid). After a flurry of apologies they asked me to return and fill up for the same amount for free next time. I was pretty impressed with that as they could well have done nothing and I probably wouldn't be any wiser. they also made the effort to let me know which to this day was a nice thing to do on their part.

It was great at first, but there were some mistakes when we wanted to fill the car with gas and the service was slow but they did apologise. So I have to give this place a three-star, the things that it could improve are the assistance.

If you are not a resident nor have a FVP parking permit, you must drive through the far right side of the security check point to get a guest pass before they let you enter. If you are a FVP resident, this is your most convenient gas station in the area. You will drive by this location day in and day out. For Section C and Section F residents, this is also your best location for snacks, drinks or smoke. It's definitely a much closer walk than walking all the way over to the town center. You can get there by getting off at the Shuttle Bus Stop 1 and Stop 10 if you are not driving. The store is small, but it has pretty good selection of the soft drinks, Japanese/Korean snacks, ice-cream, beer and even wine. There are the usual auto products such as car wash cleaner, windshield cleaner, oil, etc. Like most gas stations, there is an air pump for your tires. The interesting part about this location is that there are a lot of cyclists here to get their bicycles pumped as well. They also handle oil change here like most gas station.

Whilst this may be a common feature overseas, in a land where space is a premium this car wash certainly sets itself apart. Judging from the number of customers on a weekend you will see that they do their job well (note: it is not recommended that you go at the weekend as the queues are long and the quality does tend to suffer). The car wash for a saloon currently costs 138 which is a fair price given how labour intensive the process is- at one pointed I counted over 8 people working on a car. They also go above and beyond the car where they would clean not only the visible parts, but the panel gaps as well as doing some very rudimentary checks on water levels and tire pressure. They offer other cleaning and waxing services which again from past experience is well worth the money they charge (they are a little bit more expensive than their competitors). Maintenance wise they have a full workshop that will do both emergency repairs and routine maintenance. The staff are helpful and certainly better than what I have experienced elsewhere where most people simply try to fleece you to part away with as much cash as possible.
Conveniently located right next to Central D2 exit, it doesn't get any easier than this! I needed a…read morereally basic health check for my future employee and this was the cheapest I could find (compared nearly all the private hospitals and a couple other centres). But the convenience is a big plus for me too. It was easy to book online, but you have to make sure you have the code of the health check plan you want. They also don't have a price list with them but their website shows it clearly so don't expect them to confirm costs on the phone. Although when I asked what's the difference with basic and general, their incompetent receptionist could not answer me. I was able to make an appointment 3 days in advance for 11am on Saturday. They warned me it would be busy and would take 1.5 hours. Come Saturday 11am, the tiny lobby was packed and all the seats were taken (about 13~ people in lobby). They had me fill out a form after a 10 minute wait and asked me if my company was registered with them (you'll have to find out first yourself). Luckily I got a seat after 10 minutes 10 minutes because I had to wait about 45 minutes before they called my name. The first step of my general health check was blood pressure and bloodwork. Both went smoothly, however the lady taking the bloodwork was only wearing gloves on her right hand. Not sure if that's standard practice? I don't remember. After wards I was told to change into their robe and I left my belongings in the changing room lockers. It was about a 10 minute wait for the chest X-Ray (Make sure you're not on your period/no chance of being pregnant). Another 5 minute wait after, I was weighed and had my height taken. After giving in urine sample, I was done. When I was done (around 12:30pm) there was NO ONE in the waiting room, so it was probably their lunch. Compared to a previous diagnostic centres, this seemed slightly more efficient. They claim their reports are out in 7 days. I managed to schedule a weekend appointment with the doctor and the earliest date was Aug 1(2 weeks after). They also have many centres and you can schedule your report with a different one from your check I believe. *** Tip: Their doc/report appointments have no reminders. Book during lunch?! Weekdays for less people. Favourites: It seems a bit faster than other clinics I've been to? Meh: Their website is not very friendly. Their plans don't highlight differences. Last words:

Buying a car is a big investment for a lot of people and indeed they do look around for ages, sales people might not like this as if they were playing them around. Toyota is arguably one of the most popular brands in Hong Kong (maybe the world even) and they know that whatever their service quality is like- you will always come back and buy from them. For a few years this was certainly the case with the local dealer here where they just couldn't be bothered to deal with customers because sales would be high come what may. That's what drove me from buying from them. In the last few years though ,things have indeed changed a lot. European cars are now running circles around Japanese manufacturers in Hong Kong and Toyota has realized that they must step up their service and how they market themselves. This particular showroom in Shatin is new, bright and just a nice place to be. Despite the number of passerbys just coming in here to gawk at shiny new cars their sales people are as friendly as ever. Its not a particularly big place but it provides bored dads like me somewhere to look forward whenever I have to make a trip to the furniture central called Shatin Central Plaza. I might not buy their products just yet but if I did, this would be the place I would head to.

To my friends in the US, you have no idea how much more you have to pay to get a car and other car related expenses here compare to the US. For one thing, my uncle calculated that it is actually cheaper for him to take a taxi to work everyday than owning a car here. Crazy~ Anyways, I finally got one because I won a lottery. Not the kinds that pay you money or prizes, but a lottery for a parking spot at my apartment. Yup, that's right, it was me verses 64 other hopefuls to get a spot and I got it. Of course, they were not happy to hear that I actually didn't own a car so I had a purchase one within a month to start my lease on the spot, which cost $400 USD a month. Crazy~ Anyways, unlike the rich folks in HK, I merely saved enough to buy a low-end Toyota Wish. I called Crown Motors in Yuen Long and spoke with Mr. Tong. He was very informative on what I should do as a first time car buyer in HK. For one thing, I had to throw anything I know from the US away because it's a completely different thing in HK. When I visited him at the dealer, he was fast to reassure my concerns and throws in a few perks if I decide to buy the car with him. He also offered insurance from Toyota and give me another discount. But apparently in HK, you must take your car to the dealer for all of the scheduled maintenance and tune-ups to keep the warranty valid. Mr. Tong explained that a car is a luxury item in HK so therefore, warranties not as automatic as it is in the US. Crazy~ Anyways, I had a good overall experience at Crown Motors and with Mr. Tong. Personally, I would recommend it to my friends if they are looking for a Toyota. Oh yeah, I forgot that they drive on left here. Crazy...
