In a city where duck is available on every other block (in some areas, every few feet!), Hutong stands out. I can vouch for their claim of having the best Peking Duck in HK. That's one flex statement that's likely true. Ok. Let me share with you my most recent experience at Hutong, HK. One this occasion we kept it simple. For an appetizer we ordered the dim sum platter which had eight different types. Each one was absolutely delicious. Loved them. We also got the Flaming Peking Duck, and it was perfect. I can confidently say that it was the best I've ever had. Take a look at the pics and video and tell me it doesn't look delicious! We also ordered the chef's veggie fried rice, which is one of my longtime favorites on the menu; excellent. You come to Hutong not only for the fabulous northern Chinese cuisine, but you also come here for the upscale fine dining experience. It's a much more refined environment than say the New York Hutong, which I recently reviewed. At the NY Hutong people wear pretty much anything, but in Hutong HK people dress nicely, which adds to the atmosphere. Love it. With its incredible views of Victoria Harbor and HK Island, it's a 'wow-factor that never gets old. it's a place you shouldn't miss while in HK.

My favorite was probably the appetizers and the fish. Usually cod is cooked with miso at fancy restaurants in the states, so this was a lovely change of flavor!!! We had a big family luncheon. They told me that the dim sum from this place has won a lot of awards. I would have to agree and they have specialized dim sum not offered at other places. We ordered many dishes. The bun with the salted egg yolk was my favorite. I was in heaven. I'm all about the salted duck egg. The two other dishes that stuck out were the shumai topped with abalone and the spring roll wrapped in look fun. As usual, I had to get my shrimp dumpling. It was huge with fresh shrimp, and the skin transparent. Winner! The steamed fish was very appetizing. The meat was smooth and firm, with a nice texture to it. I could tell that it was very fresh. The goose was good also, but on the fatty side. The goose has to be ordered a day before if you're planning to get it.

My colleagues all prefer this shop, and indeed, the chicken was much tenderer and juicier. And also the spciy clam, which serves in a wooden pot, was very yummy. With a bigger group of people, the meal continued after we finished the spicy chicken. By adding soup to the pot with spicy sauce remained from the chicken dish, we now have a boiling hotpot with a nice spicy base. The meatballs are all handmade, and I highly recommend the black pepper chicken meatball :) Nice place for group gathering, some beer, Sichuan chicken and hotpot.

Taiwan Bowl is famous for their deep fried chicken steak so, of course, we had to try that. There was also a set where you could pick 3 toppings over rice. In general, their sets come with rice or noodles and a drink. The price range is anywhere from $46-$64. I thought the chicken steak was well seasoned, juicy, and definitely big enough to fill you up. I thought the minced pork sauce (you can pick spicy and non spicy) that it came with was a little bit too thick but still very tasty. We had a dumpling where the skin is made with egg, pork cartilage, and mushroom and pork balls. Everything was delicious and my tummy was quite happy after finishing it all. If I'm in this area I would consider coming back to Taiwan Bowl, but I wouldn't necessarily go out of my way to come here.

This restaurant is not a chain as such but it was start by two brothers who still staff the place, much like the newer generation of hotpot places they serve not only the usual hotpot favourites but also specialize in seafood items and even serve sashimi if you come here on the right day. Dotted around the shop are blackboard with the special of the day being listed and you are strongly recommended to try whats on the boards as they will be the fresh items for the day. They have a huge choice of soup bases to choose from and one of the most important things in a hot pot- beef- is categorized into so many sections that you wouldn't have known that so many bits can come off a cow. The other items on the menu do go on and portions could only be described to be generous. Another favourite to try here is the special wanton that they make on site. The shop further benefits from the fact that it occupies a corner section so it is a good size with around 12-15 tables; they always have the A/Cs on full blast to keep everyone cool .Drinks aren't the cheapest but there is always some beer thats on special offer to keep every well hydrated. For drivers, you could park right outside but then again the fuzz does visit every now and then hence you will be well advised to check on your pride and joy every now and then.

The hot sauce on top of it gives it a nice contrast from the sweet bacon bits they garnish it with and the dough is very smooth to bite in and the filling is cooked nicely each time! Siu Mai is one of the classics and it is topped with carb roe. My tip is dipping it in both soy sauce and chili sauce to really inspire the flavor. What really stands out at this place is the albalone and chicken huge bun! It is filled to the brim each time with lots of albalone and chicken and vegetables and brought to you hot the flavors are very exquisite and the filling is squishy and filling. Lastly try the baked bbq pork buns! The bun is baked on the outside and is crispy and on the inside is the pork which is soft and smooth. You can eat it in one bite!
