Hyggelig stemning når der ikke er folk der ser fodboldkamp

An update is obviously warranted after my double (or was it triple) unluck with this place last time with the rowdy rugby-watching crowd, teenagers playing foosball and leftover drunks from the football game. Anders A and I went here a week ago to find the bar was (almost) empty at 3.30pm. Well duh. But obviously, it's five o'clock somewhere else since there were people like us drinking beer already on that time on a Saturday (so, it's totally ok, right?). The ambience was nice, jazz and good old 80s music was playing (please, no teenagers!) and we had great time doing our stuff, drinking beer - that is. I had Mikkeller milk stout times two (it was just THAT good) and Mikkeller's christmas beer from 2013 (Santa's Little Helper, the one that was stored in cognac barrel). Mmmm... Right, I'm totally a fan now of Ørsted Ølbar, but I would avoid it on a football/ match nights.

    The taps. Love the hardware.

I think that there's better beer bars (Fermentoren) in Copenhagen.

It's…read moreone for beers geeks looking for craft beers on tap and keen to keep away from the Tuborg and Carlsberg that dominate touristy bars. It really is worth the trip, not far from the nearest metro stop it best described as a grainy hipster bar where 99% of the clientele are locals. There are retro pictures on the walls and bicycles hanging from the roof. Apart from that it is pretty basic with no fancy edges, just a chalkboard with 10-ish craft beers from across the globe on tap. I had an amazing IPA from New Zealand which is one of the best beers I have had on this trip to Copenhagen. Definitely worth a look if you like new beers and want to get of the beaten track. (Sadly no wi-fi though)

I was dragged here after a hearty meal at the Ethiopian restaurant on the same street further down Nørrebrogade and this place is just perfect. I like that there are more and more craftbeer bar in Copenhagen that gives no excuse to drink a bad beer. They have their beer list on the blackboard by the bar and you could get a taste of what you will order, and since it's called Ølsnedkeren, they make their own bottled beer as well. Too bad I had to hurry home because I was drinking on a Wednesday, but I would definitely come back to this place again.

Getting beer in Copenhagen can be a tricky business lately…read more It's not just about buying a six pack of Tuborg from nearby Netto to drink over on the street of Nyhavn while feeling smug toward the tourists who "have" to pay overpriced beers from those nearly picturesque cafe traps along the canal. Nope, we need a place too that isn't as snotty as cocktail bars around the posh Holmens Kanal or the lively Gammel Strand that can be a little bit too daunting to navigate on Friday or Saturday night but it shouldn't be those dodgy bodegas where the elderly generations of this country spend their time chugging their favourite Tuborg while shouting "det' hyggeligt, ikk os?" to each other either Ølbaren is just perfect place in between. A simple place where you can get a decent beer (if you can't stand the usual horsepiss pilsner that are widely available here) and can still hold proper conversation with your friend without the dunk-dunk-dunk techno music whatever that they play these days. As a matter of fact, they played classic jazz which I liked, with a volume just right to be enjoyed in the background. The bartender is friendly and could recommend you the beer that you will enjoy based on your preference. They have quite a selection so you could try to find your favourite for your next visit. This is simply no BS kinda place where you just can.... *drum rolls*.... enjoy beer.

However, there's just a good feeling about this bar. Loved that we could sit and talk for hours here. The crowd here seemed friendly. We got friendly advice from the folks already at the bar about the different beers. This was actually very useful because the chalkboard does not list the beer's percent alcohol or beer style! It was full but not packed on a Thursday night. By the time our rather large crowd of 7 picked up the drinks at the bar, a corner table had opened up so we got to sit. I had a beer with the fantastic name of "Flying Couch" which was very dark, sweet, and malty (good in a 25 cl size, probably undrinkable if any larger). I'm not sure how large their beer selection is, but certainly large enough so that I got to try a few new beers. I wouldn't call this a very hip or exciting place, but it is a great place to hangout and chat with friends.
