They get you before you even walk in door. That smell wafting from the smoker is intoxicating!! The ambiance is total smokehouse with lots of wood and metal. It just fits. But the food... It is amazing! Hand crafted with tons of passion. You can taste the dedication in every bite. We shared a lot of items and were delighted with every one. The sauce bar is just fantastic. Something for every palate and we tried them all. Here's my tip- try the fry sauce on the pulled pork. This place is truly a gem with some talented people who care manning the helm. Be sure to give it a try!

Saw this place had some decent reviews and decided to give them a try. Unfortunately my experience was less than average..... There is a fair amount of parking in this area and inside seating. The first thing you notice is this place does smell AMAZING but the food just did not taste anywhere good as it smelled! The service was fine. Nothing to write home about. It was very fast though!! Ok the most important part! THE FOOD: I am someone who grabs chips over a cookies and loves salt, so when I tell you these fries were so salty they are almost inedible, I mean it! Just covered! The brisket tasted old, rubbery and dry. I had to throw the whole thing out, such a waste. They Mac and cheese was very watery in consistency but the flavor was ok. The pulled pork was the only thing that was half way decent. I tried the Smokey, sweet, and tangy Carolina BBQ sauces and didn't like a single one. The flavors were just to artificial. This was just a huge miss for me. Will not be back.

Excellent BBQ spot that is worth a stop! Meaty ribs seasoned and smoked to perfection! Make-your-own sauce, if you can't find one you like! Order at the counter, the make your bbq and you can pick it up at the end of the counter. My friend loved their coleslaw (that's why there's 2 on her lunch chicken platter).

    Sauces!

Does NOT disappoint! BBQ here spanks the competition-pork butts down! Moist beef brisket that you can serve to a toothless grannie (it's so tender it melts in your mouth). The ribs are plentiful meaty and delicious (even if you don't stop at the sauce station to concoct your own). Counter service, excellent vibe and best smelling place in Eagan!

We tried ZZQ's for lunch on a Friday. It wasn't too busy at 11:30, but around 12:30/1, the line was about 8 people long. We tried the brisket, pulled pork, ribs, fries, and chicken (part of the kids meal). I am a huge pulled pork fan, and their's was so good! Everything else was okay, but not great. Maybe the amazingness of the pulled pork made everything else dull? The service was really good, and the staff was friendly and helpful.

I was really craving some good bbq food since one of our fav spots has been closed. We decided to go out to zzq after a couple of others recommended it. It definitely didn't disappoint! My hubby got the ribs combo and I got a pulled pork sandwich. My hubby said the ribs were up there with some of the best he has had in Memphis and in St. Louis. All of the different sauces were amazing! The pork was so tender and had great flavor. The fries were crispy and the fry sauce was bomb. Also, they offer Coke Zero which makes me happy!

We went pretty late, during a Friday dinner rush. Not a ton of seating here but enough for what it is. The lady at the counter seemed pretty flustered but was friendly and got it all down eventually, especially considering the semi-confusing nature of our coupon. I can't say enough nice things about the food, sauces, and people here though. Just phenomenal work guys! I got the two meat plate, pulled pork with ribs, beans and coleslaw. Everything was so good! The rub on the ribs, the sweet, hot and tangy Carolina sauce and the pulled pork was all perfect! Writing this brings back mouth-watering callbacks definitely asking for a return visit and then some!

My dinner was especially good....the chicken fried perfectly...all dark meat the way I like it. The potato salad was not what I expected but I was pleasantly surprised. Ratio of breading to chicken was perfect and perfectly seasoned. The honey butter that came with it was also delicious. The New Orleans shrimp bowl was great too. The ratio of shrimp, which was perfectly cooked, to rice was good. Lots of great flavor. I think that everyone in our party enjoyed what they ordered. The only "ding" would be the service. We had to ask for silverware so we could eat and had to wait for straws because she forgot. I'm still going to give it 5 stars even though the service was lacking a bit. So I ordered the hurricane drink, fried green tomatoes, half bird with sweet potatoes and collards. I'll just right into my experience, the drink was 12/10 for sure! Not much to say on it except perfect. The fried green tomatoes were good just needed to be hot! The grits arrived like warm at best, but still a decent bite. The half bird (4 piece fried chicken) was extremely hot and juicy!!! I can't complain about that, the sides however could've used a little more attention. The sweet potatoes lacked so much potential due to them being puréed the only sweet portion came from the marshmallows and pecans which I wasn't a fan of. The collards were decent, needed a pinch or 2 of salt. Overall I would come again though to try different items. Just apply a little more love in the kitchen in regard to the seasoning and the dishes would be fire!!!!! Happy Yelping

They ordered bbq chicken, smothered chicken, meatloaf, mashed potatoes, mac & cheese, green beans & cornbread. If i'm being honest none of the food looked appetizing in the serving trays so I was already skeptical. I've always kind of heard mixed reviews about MS but it was still on my list to check it out. My job allowed us 1 meat option, 1 side + green beans and cornbread. I got the bbq chicken and it was sitting in a watery bbq sauce (which was explained by a coworker serving it as it's a bbq gravy?) I got the baked mac and cheese, which a soul food restaurant should be able to deliver... it was just salty! The cheese burnt on top was inedible and it overall it wasn't good. The cornbread was really dry. Overall not good.

There wasn't an alternative sauce available, so I had the fish plain. I don't think that really did the walleye justice, so it wasn't my favorite dish. Some of the other items were also a bit hit-or-miss for my personal taste, but that's more about my preferences than the quality of the food. I find the way the food looks when it arrives is always different than the way it sounds when you read the menu - sometimes for better, and sometimes for worse. The coffee and bar menu is pretty decent for a brunch place. Prices are on the high end, though some are more reasonable than others. Their menu has some Asian twists which I was excited for. They also have wood fire pizzas if you like that. I don't go to restaurants for an overpriced pizza. I go for main course entrees that I'm hoping to get a wow from. We tried the chicken wings as a starter (only thing is that it came out with the entrees). The wings had a burnt flavor with a slight Asian twang. The hot mustard dipping sauce cleared my sinuses and tasted sorta like horseradish. It didn't pair well with the wings to me. For the main courses we tried the orecchiette and the grilled whole fish. The orecchiette was boring and needed more of a sauce. The grilled fish was also boring and was just a fish without any sauce. Is this a thing? I feel like fish needs a little more something. And for $55, I'm wanting a really good fish. The main courses don't come with sides, so you order separate sides that are larger portion "to share". The smoked potato purée was weird and I don't think smokey potatoes should be a thing. Our server was not having a good evening. Some of our food was not as she represented. Also, our food came without serving utensils. Our steak was served as two big hunks, as opposed to being shingled for sharing. After mentioning these things to our server, things got decidedly chilly. Our server only swung by at light speed. Enter through the Burger spot and look for the Coca Cola machine! Once you enter Volstead House, you can't help but be transported into what feels like a Spirit Library. A huge accent wall lined from floor to ceiling with spirit bottles is the perfect back drop to this cozy hang out. Perfect for a date night, friend catch-up, or solo Whiskey adventure, Volstead House is a vibe!
