Apparently it 's universally…read moreaccepted that no one should ever have a yellow face, because every other color was represented EXCEPT gold (at multiple stores too). I don't think this store is here year round, based on signage and store set-up. Oh, and also based on the fact that no sane person wants to purchase such disgusting, disturbing items during the other 11 months of the year. Seriously, what are we, as a human race, thinking? Why do we do this? It's difficult for me to understand, but hey, free candy right? Back to the store, it's HUGE! At least the building is. The spirit of Halloween is exemplified as you walk in and are hit with the horrifying feeling of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. There are only a few racks of temporary shelving inside a giant box store and the voices of meandering customers echo eerily through the large amounts of unused space. Oooh....spooky. They did have a pretty good collection of ghoulish masks, hideous decor, and skanky costumes despite the 'late hour'. So, if you're getting desperate for a last minute idea for that big party...it's worth a shot. Just don't try to find golden face paint. It's not there.

The worst $1400+ I've ever spent! Please read!!…read more I found McGrew Studios here on yelp, and after reading Su C.'s review, I decided to check them out. I needed custom Lady Gaga costumes made by a very skilled seamstress, and that is what I thought I had found. After meeting with Jen, I believed she was very skilled in her craft. Beautiful, intricate costumes covered the walls and ceilings, so I thought no doubt that my costumes would be easy for her. After deciding on the costumes to be made, she gave me a quote and insisted on collecting a deposit. I thought that since it would cost almost $2000 for 2 jackets and 2 foam shoulder insets to be made, that a deposit was reasonable. Going forward, she agreed that I could make payments since that was quite a huge amount of money. She also agreed to make me two custom body suits for $200 each - even though I provided the body shaper and fabric for her to use (unreasonable price!). As I visited the next 2 times, I gave her $200 each time in payments for the costumes. Upon the 3rd meeting, she demanded full payment for all of the costumes, even though they had not been finished! You wouldn't ever go to a store and give your money to someone with nothing in return! They claimed on multiple occasions that they needed the money "to keep our lights on" and "pay the bills." I'm sorry, but my financial responsibility is to pay for finished costumes, NOT your bills. Scared by her many threats via email and voicemail, I paid for the rest of the first jacket ($700 for jacket, $300 for the shoulder pad inserts). Plus she had $400 of mine for two custom bodysuits, which I still hadn't received. After giving her the $1000, she sent me picture messages of the the jacket process, to which I was excited because it looked like it was turning out nicely. Boy was I wrong. She did finally give me one of the bodysuits I had ordered. The day she gave it to me, I had a Lady Gaga performance in SLC to which I would wear it. Upon the FIRST time wearing it, it ripped up the back and up the sides. I was extremely upset with this poor craftsmanship, but she claimed it was just part of "wear and tear" and that she would not repair it for me. Since I now live in Vegas, I had a girlfriend of mine to to her studio to pick up the finished jacket and mail to me. When I got the jacket, I found it to be of CHEAP material and VERY poorly constructed. Being a professional seamstress myself at one point, I was able to see all the careless mistakes made within the jacket, as though she threw it together in order to get paid. "Couture" construction is one thing, but unsymmetrical pleats and untrimmed seams are just ridiculous. Dissatisfied with the final outcome, I wrote to her expressing my concern and that I would like a refund or SOMETHING done, to which she denied me. She claimed that when she gave the jacket to my friend that it released her of any liability of the costume and that I would have to take it AS IS! Is this any way to run a business?? Whatever happened to 100% satisfaction guarantee?? I am now stuck with a POS lady gaga jacket that I cannot wear since it is so poorly constructed that it doesn't even fit correctly. I would stay FAR away from this company. There are MANY other brilliant costume makers that will charge a quarter of the price for the same garment and better construction.

Or maybe it's the general feeling of unease as you walk into a gigantic, dated, building, unsure of what's going to meet you on the other side. OR MAYBE it's the fact that I've never met a single employee who doesn't act like they dread being there. Look, I get it, I've worked retail and it's reliably soul-sucking, but you think you'd at least catch someone on the occasional "good day", right? Not so at Zurchers, which is pretty ironic considering it's a party store. Shortly after you enter, you will realize you're more or less standing in a Party City doppelgänger. Yes, Zurchers is your one-stop (local) shop for all things party and party-adjacent. They have just about everything the heart desires from Donald Trump's cardboard cutout to generic, "you did it!" basketball trophies. What else does one need? In all seriousness, spin the decorations wheel of excess and Zurchers will provide endless gifts. Holidays, birthdays, weddings, baby showers, costumes, divorces (no? just me?) it's all at your disposal. This includes a front section that is set up based on the current Holiday. Right now, for reference, you've got all your Halloween material. A lot of it is repeating inventory, just offered in multiple colors and variations. Ergo, you find yourself looking for napkins, and what do you find? Napkins in 10 variations of color. All of this makes Zurchers really accessible in terms of finding what you need, but it's all extremely overwhelming and excessive. Not to mention, it's low quality. You can't really fault them for this, as most of it's going in the trash after the fact, but the vast majority of their inventory won't be great for longevity. Therefore, if you're looking to have a super elegant event, you're probably not Zurchers target demographic. But if you're on a budget, or simply just don't have the desire to break the bank, you know what's up ;) A few things of note, before we have the dreaded (BUT IMPORTANT) balloon talk. You can actually rent things out here, although I've never done it myself. Mainly it's just food machines: popcorn, snow-cones, cotton candy- but also a helium tank if you're so inclined. Which you might be BECAUSE: The balloon setup is a bit unclear. Here are some important things about balloons, that they won't tell you upfront. Number one, don't be deceived- there are a lot more options than what you see behind the counter. They have an entire aisle dedicated to balloons, where you'll find everything from a basic colored balloon, to all kinds of numbers and letters. Do some exploring before you commit. Number two, BEFORE YOU BUY BALLOONS, make damn well sure that they will be able to blow them up for you. As evidenced by other reviews (and I've had this happen myself) they will often NOT be able to blow up your balloons with helium, rather, they'll have to blow them up with air. And in some cases, they won't be able to blow them up AT ALL. Make sure you get clarification BEFORE you spend your money. And if they say "I think we can." Don't take their word for it, get someone who knows. NUMBER THREE: oftentimes, they have big balloon orders that take priority over walk-ins. That means if you catch them at the wrong time, they can be very busy. Be prepared to wait if you unluckily catch them fulfilling orders. OR you can always place your orders conveniently online. That way, you can bypass most of the aforementioned balloon BS. Follow the balloon rules, and you'll be iight. Know that there's nothing of extreme value here, and you'll be just fine.

I never leave reviews like this because honestly I have so many other things I could be doing with…read moremy time but this needed to be written. I Came into this location and brought in some of my own pre packaged balloons for my daughter's first birthday to be filled with helium. I wasn't greeted or smiled back at when I walked in, every employee at the front desk who saw me come in, walked away like they were busy when they were all up front previously laughing and joking around. The old lady who filled them up for me was not pleasant... at all. Just very cold and rude when I asked her questions. She asked if I wanted a travel bag, I said "that's fine" and she said "it's a yes or no question" ....LOL OK. this was just one of her many rude responses. not really sure who pissed her off that day or if she's just so miserable with her own life she needs to make other people unhappy too. Also, two of the balloons she filled for me were not floating anymore by the time I got home, 10 minutes later. When checking out she informed me they "weren't responsible for the balloons after they left the store doors" Listen, maybe the two of the balloons I had were faulty, and I can't rule that out... but to charge customers a dollar per balloon to fill it up with air the least I'd expect was something to last until the next day. Just a disappointing experience all around. I will never come back to this location.
