This is the hands-down the best meal I had in France. Our AirBnB host said it was the only…read morerestaurant he would recommend in Strasbourg and the only one left that wasn't a tourist trap and still served traditional dishes cooked in traditional styles for the Alsace region. First of all, super easy to walk up and get a table as the place wasn't crowded at all (for a Tuesday night). The server was charming and very friendly with helping us navigate the menu and the region's specialties! We tried completely new dishes and they were amazing. The lawerknepfle with the mushroom sauce was my favorite. Crème brûlée was not too sweet and focused on quality of the ingredients. 10/10 a must if you visit Strasbourg.

Review is 3.5. Hubs loved it, I was under whelmed. Did think the decor was very Alsatian without…read morebeing kitschy. For starters, I had the very generous onion pie-sort of a cousin to quiche which was tasty but huge by starter standards. Hubs had Alsacienne salad ...local cheeses and sausages and greens. Again super generous for a starter. We both had the Dish of the day--GRUMBEEREFLEICH...apparently very Alsatian --grated veggies, local cheeses and ground beef ( not apparent in the mix) and then deep fried. Each plate had 3 large pieces. Just not much flavor, so a disappointment. Dessert was a profiterole which had potential but felt like it had been thrown together with some kind of very chewy sponge cake and grainy chocolate sauce. Overall, lots of potential but just didn't fulfill the experience I had hoped for.

Absolutely amazing!! While touring the Christmas Markets on a Gate 1 Travel tour, we heard so much…read moreabout this wonderful restaurant. We got there on a Sunday afternoon around 2:00 pm and they were packed with a wait list. We were told 45 minutes and were seated within 40 minutes. This is such a cozy place with wooden booths and tables for two. Jess was our amazing server. The French onion soup for starters all around. Oh my gosh!! The perfect amount of onion, broth, bread, and cheese mouth watering and perfect!! Each of our entrees were so delicious!! We had the Duck Breast which was succulent, tender, and slightly sweet. The Tiger Steak was a nice surprise. Tender and so flavorful. The Traditional sauerkraut with meats stood out to us all. Each piece of meat was so spectacular- tender, juicy, and yummy. The sauerkraut wasn't sour. It was very tasty but not overpowering. Even the potatoes bursted with flavor. Our desserts.....Creme brulee' apple strudel and frozen souffle' with Gran Mariner. Thank goodness we have a walk to the tram!!!! So full. This experience is one for the books!!!

If you're in Strasbourg, L'Oignon is definitely a place you shouldn't miss. Do make sure you book a…read morereservation, as it gets busy and seating isn't guaranteed otherwise. We began with the onion soup, which was absolutely divine--rich, deeply flavourful, and wonderfully balanced. The escargot was another pleasant surprise: nicely chewy and not at all dry, unlike versions we've had elsewhere. For the mains, I went for the tiger steak. While the flavour was good, a few pieces were unfortunately quite chewy and difficult to swallow. My mum ordered the pikeperch, which was the real standout--perfectly cooked with a decadent citrus note running through it. All in all, L'Oignon offers a memorable meal with excellent starters and well-considered flavours. With a reservation sorted, it's well worth adding to your plans when visiting Strasbourg.
