It's about time for me to write another review. BLUF: Zum Mohren continues to be a great place to enjoy food and outdoor ambience of living in Germany. I'd give them 4.5 stars if I could. We returned to this local favorite for the first time after COVID-19 health protection restrictions were finally softened to allow outdoor dining. Since the weather was very agreeable in the evening, we tried our luck. Actually, we stopped by earlier around 2:45 pm on Friday during our usual walking around the town time, but the kitchen had been already closed at 2:30. There were many tables occupied, but I found out many folks were enjoying just drinks during sunny afternoon. We were told it would open for supper again at 5:00, so we returned for supper. By the way, the kitchen closes at 9:30 pm. though the place is open until 11 pm. I really should've known better that we needed a reservation since folks were out in great numbers to enjoy sit-down meals and drinks after post-COVID lockdowns. Nonetheless, we were able to get a table with an understanding that it was reserved for later time by about one and one half hours. That would've been plenty of time for us to enjoy our meal. Our food was just as good as we remembered. We enjoyed early evening meal assisted by our friendly English speaking server. It was altogether very nice dining experience.

This was our first introduction to schaeufele which is slightly different from schweinhaxen, and even better! This became one of our top favorite places to order it, but they also make an awesome deer meal for the Autum season that reminds us of Thanksgiving back home. Their puten salat is also a crowd pleaser. We nearly always ordered their Hefeweizen and radlers, which are prefect in the warm months sitting in their bier garten, people watching and visiting with fiends/family.

This restaurant was highly recommended by our friends, and we were not disappointed. We opted to…read moresit outside during very nice summer evening. We later found out that our choice was right since indoor section was rather warm and uncomfortable. They offer traditional Bavarian/Franconian cuisine. It must be a mushroom season, since there were quite a few dishes with wild mushroom sauce. I opted for a schweinbraten (roasted pork). It came with two large potato dumplings (klossen) and a dish of sauerkraut. It was very good, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The gravy was not creamy or thick like what I used to in the states, but it was very flavorful. Since potato dumplings are somewhat bland, you really need some good tasting gravy to enjoy them. A young man was our server, he spoke excellent English, and he was very helpful. I understand that he's a grandson of the owner. His brother is the chef. Service was prompt and courteous. You have to remember that dishes are served as they become ready unlike in the states. We were a table of five, and we were served in two shifts. You have to start when you were served not to let your food get too cold. It's a little awkward, but it is what it is. There are German and English menus. I noticed English menu is simplified, and it doesn't include many dishes German menu includes like the daily menu. We ordered from the daily menu (I discovered later that it really doesn't change too often). Overall, it was an excellent dining coupled with good conversation with friends made a near perfect evening experience. We'll be back again, I'm sure.

Very clean and very good food and service. Looking forward to trying out more of the menu.read more
