Earlier this year I got T-boned in my 2000 4Runner. Long story short, I went to MANY different body shops, besides the funky one AAA recommended, and frankly I would not want to do business with any of them. In the National City/Chula Vista area I HIGHLY recommend Earl Scheib, at 1st & National City Blvd. They do all the major insurance claim stuff, but if you're also doing something out-of-pocket, like I was by having the rest of my car painted, their rates are by far the best around. Without typing up a novel about it, they PERFECTLY matched the factory paint, they did a beauty job of restoring the plastic at the bumpers, they seamlessly repaired where the guy hit me and spun me around, and now my 25 year-old Toyota looks new again. My Kia Soul was in an accident and parts from other Kia Souls were used to repair the damage resulting in a patchwork of colors along with a 10 year old badly chipping clear coat. I decided to go to Zook's Earl Scheib because of the Earl Scheib advertising for $29.95 when I was a kid. I was pleased to see they were still in business and with a very high rating. If I could give this business 20 stars I would. Justin (the owner) was so nice from the first phone call to waving goodbye in my fantastically painted, two toned vintage paint from the 1950's white trim and light turquoise blue. I was thrilled when I drove up and saw the results. It is meticulously painted. Amazing attention to detail, thick perfectly applied paint and thick clear coat as well. I could not be happier with the paint job, the staff and the owner Justin. I'll defiantly be recommending Zook's Earl Scheib Auto Body and Paint on Rosecrans street to everyone!!! I took my 2011 Ford Ranger to their shop for some significant bodywork and a complete re-paint of my truck. And on my first visit I met Justin. I could tell right away that he and his shop were what I was looking for- a highly professionally managed shop that takes great pride in their work. While there I also checked about some of their completed work. In fact Justin recommended that I do so. As a many-year prior skilled tradesman myself, I was impressed with everything I saw and heard. So I gave him my truck and confidence. A little over a week later, I saw the absolute first-rate work that they did on my Ranger. The truck looks as good if not better that the day I bought it in 2012. They even polished up the head and taillight lenses! This is not the Earl Scheib of the past. I met with Justin, the store manager, and explained my concern with past rumors about the company. Justin, patiently listened to my concerns and assured me that his shop doesn't cut corners and are meticulous about quality. I got my 2005 Honda Odyssey back yesterday and was incredibly pleased with the results. We dropped off an aging minivan with dents and faded out peeling paint as well as cloudy headlights; we received a minivan that looked NEW with no dents and crystal clear headlights. The color match was spot on. Justin urged me to return the van if we had any concern with is work now and in the future. He promised to correct any imperfection at no cost. I'm not on the payroll of Earl Scheib. I'm just a sceptic who became a believer in doing business with a company that was know for low-end, mediocre work. We went to the National City location for so touch up painting. We waiting a while to be greeted and to get an estimate. We decided to go with them based on their price but once we got there the office staff changed the estimate saying it was incorrect. We negotiated a price but I find that they didn't honor their original estimate to be less than trustworthy. They took about 4 days to paint one side of the vehicle. The workmanship was subpar and looks like a home paint job. It's cheap but looks that way so consider yourself warned. read more

It is unfortunate that I am unable to give a minus 10 stars. However when my husband took our son here today to pick up his car, things got ugly. My son chose this place. We told him we'd pay for the damage the uninsured motorIst did to his car but he'd have to pay us back. So he chose a place he could afford, not a place we would have chosen. We can afford better. For some reason, this man in the business of customer service did not have the sensory acuity to see that the white man with check book and the young black guy was a father and son team. As much as my son tried, he could not stop his father from being totally disrespected after point out the underhanded business practices that caused us to be over charged for services he had paid half down for. Yes people, at the time he dropped off the car for collision repair, he was told he had to put down half the money up front to buy parts. Unusual at more reputable collision repair shops but okay since in the world of really for real business, this also ties in the final price. Well, this is no really for real business. This place is a black stain on the Earl Scheib name. I mean..... who charges separately and after the fact for the fluids used to fill the radiator after you have a new radiator installed? These things are usually included in the quote. However, knowing my son was price shopping, he omitted them to get the job. Knowing that a kid in his early twenties would have no choice but to pay when picking up the car. When called out on his questionable business practices, he tried fast talk my husband to no avail. So after seeing that my husband was no kid and actually knew about vehicle repair, he actually said.... "I don't know why I'm talking to you. You may be paying but it's not your car." Then he turned his back on him and proceeded to address our son with a total attitude of dismissiveness. Well, that's when it got ugly. Make no mistake, my husband is a hot head when he sees his family being taken advantage of. More so when he is disrespected in front of his son. So yes he was first to get loud and the first to use profanity. Things got so ugly in fact that my husband was told to leave the establishment even though he was reluctantly trying to pay. After refusing payment and to give my son his car, my husband called the police. So this business owner started in with threats to block our son's car in to prevent him from getting it so he would have to pay storage fees. This owner didn't care. It did not calm him down nor make him back off from the verbal onslaught and threats of physical harm. "You're lucky you're still standing." He admitted to my son that because my husband was white, that was the reason he was not peacefully taking the obvious $300 price increase over the original quote. Now there was some additional work quoted for about $130 after the down payment and before today through telephone calls. That increase was expected. All that said and done, this is Point Loma. Everybody here has many cars with many auto body repair needs. Let's face it, we have small dings and bug damage repaired. Because of this man, I will never take any of my vehicles to anything carrying the Earl Scheib name. I wouldn't buy Earl Scheib hand sanitizer in a field of Covid 19 plants. My recommendation, a big fat no way. You really wanna know why? Beside the obvious price inflating techniques, the inability to resolve customer conflict. My husband can be a pain. But he's a paying customer that you quoted a price to and unfairly overcharged, disrespected and threatened with physical harm. The customer service here sucks. I'll follow up with how the repairs go. I think I'll pay another mechanic to look at his work. I need my son to be safe. Earl Scheib should be ashamed of themselves. There is no need for me to even get into the shotty and unfinished repair to the body of the car. Man!! I should have read the reviews before I wasted almost $3000. read more

I had a pipe burst in my parking garage that leaked chlorine water from the pool in our complex all over the car. I initially had a mobile crew give a full detail and they couldn't get off some of the stains. I went to 3 shops and they all said I had to get it repainted. When I went here Robert took the time to demonstrate to me that he thought his guys could sand it off rather than repaint. He took sand paper and showed me some of the work for free just to demonstrate the work they do there. When I picked it up the car looked brand new and he did it in one day! I was so grateful for his time and effort and honest work. He could've upsold me on the paint or not given the time to demonstrate, but he went above and beyond. Highly recommend!! read more

What happened to customer satisfaction? My mom was asked to pay in cash for a paint job. A gentleman then told her it would be an additional $250 after it was sanded, etc to change the color. He rushed her, saying "hurry and pick a color." There was no patch test. Her car is now a loud, ugly blue and they want to charge her an additional $800 to change the color. I took Robert an '03 F150 to paint and i couldn't have asked for a better result, it's beautiful. the original paint was generally sun burnt. the clear was burning off the sides of the bed and the rest of the paint had "spider web cracks" (there's probably a technical term that i don't know) and was faded. i've never been a fan of clearcoat for the problems this truck had, so i was super happy that they painted it with a single stage. the paint looks super thick which is what i wanted, that's why i am requested them to repaint with the factory paint code, Ford "UA", black. I dropped the truck off Monday evening and it was finished the same week Thursday, i consider this great service and a really quick turnaround for the labor involved. read more

I took my 2004 Ram 1500 to them for paint and a small amount of body work. Without a doubt, it's the worst paint job I've seen. The owner had a inexperienced kid shoot the paint and it shows. Every quarter panel, all 4 doors, and the hood are bad. Sagging, fogging, sand scratches, there's a Bondo seam that wasn't feathered properly so it shows. There're spots that were touched and fixed with a brush, plus more. It was the highest price job too. I'm so angry I stayed away because I'm afraid I'll lose my temper. My only recourse is to get it completely repainted at a better shop. I don't even want these guys to repaint for free because I don't trust them to do a good job. 2 grand out the window. Don't use these guys unless cheap is what you want. read more

BUYER BEWARE! I have to say this is the worst service experience I have ever had. A little background, I'm an engineer and own quite a few rental properties on the side, so I deal with repair service companies all the time on my units. I have never dealt with such an unethical business/owner. I decided to bring my work truck (1999 4Runner) in for some rust repair work around the windshield sill and tailgate. Spoke with a guy named Ray (who no longer works there). He quoted me $700 for the work and told me it would take a couple of days. Great, sounds good! Well, those couple of days turned into 10 days, as they were at times very slow and left many items unfinished. In addition, the 1st windshield they had subcontracted out was scratched and needed replacement. Finally the work was done and I took the truck home, only to notice later that day that the dashboard had started to peel back directly under the windshield. Ray took a look at it the next morning and agreed that he didn't remember the dashboard peeling back before they started and that it was probably the result of leaving the truck in the sun with the windshield removed for an extended amount of time. He said that he would hold the windshield guy accountable. Well shortly thereafter Ray apparently parted ways with Zook's and I was now dealing with the owner Mitch who told me that the damage was old and that he was not responsible. Said he would have someone glue the dashboard back down and that I had to pay for the windshield to be removed and replaced. I refused and went to the Toyota dealership to get an estimate for repairs ($2531.52)..., which I dropped off at Zook's. The next day I had a very unpleasant conversation with the owner, but he finally agreed to both glue the dashboard back as well as pay for the glass removal. Took a week for them to coordinate schedules but dropped truck off on a Friday to have the repairs done. Well, apparently the glue didn't work and Mitch's manager Arturo spent a lot of time tracking down a new dashboard top at a junkyard. He asked if it was okay if they used this part and I said it was completely fine. Then Monday morning comes and I get a call from the owner... not going to do the repair... basically said it's old damage and that I should come pick up the truck. I came to the shop and took a look at my truck with the windshield out. TURNS OUT THAT THEY DIDN'T EVEN DO THE ORIGINAL WORK THAT I HAD PAID FOR! There were several rust areas in the windshield sill. This was the only real reason I brought my truck in to the shop in the first place for the agreed to $700!!! I showed it to him and he didn't care... said that would require removing the dash and he wouldn't do it. In my conversations with the owner Mitchell, the following occurred: - He had no knowledge of the work they had originally done on my truck. I had to bring them the receipt as proof. - I was hung up on several times, in addition to constant rude comments. - Told my truck was old and said the repair would cost more than what it's worth. - Told me to sue him and swore that I would lose and owe him thousands. - Just generally very rude and did not care about the damage or incompetent work. On the flip side I did enjoy working with his manager Arturo, who tried to help me every step of the way and was the only reason I didn't lose complete patience during this month and a half. Arturo was such a nice guy who really cared about the quality of work they put out. Unfortunately, that's not the case for the owner, who overruled Arturo's suggested fixes over and over again. The whole ordeal started on 9/13/16 and ended today 11/1/16. Such a wasted amount of time and I'm left with a busted truck and this yelp review. Will have to contact the BBB tomorrow as well as file suit against the company/owner. Sorry for the longwinded review, but I don't want anyone else to have to go through the nightmare that I just did. read more

I went in today to get an "estimate" and the rude employees that "helped" me was so dismissive and all he did was walk up to my truck and without even looking at it he said I need their diamond package which is of course the most expensive. I have a 2005 Tacoma and the clear coat on the driver's side window and driver's side cab window is peeling. Not the paint just the clear coat. He then proceeded to point out some non-existent dings and said that I need the most expensive job or it won't look right. I humored him then tried to get some other options. He just kept pushing the one job on me. I'm 99.99% sure it's because I'm a woman and couldn't possibly know what I want or anything about my truck. I won't be going back! I had a horrible experience at this Earl Scheib. Here is my story. Several months ago, I had my 1995 Ford Thunderbird painted. I decided to have it painted the same color it was - white. They did a very poor job and there was a ton of overspray all over the bumpers, moldings, etc. It looked horrible. Strangely, I didn't notice it too much at the time.... A couple of months ago, after I got into a fender bender and messed up the paint on my bumper, I decided it would be cool to paint my car black. So, I paid them again and this time they painted it black. Well, needless to say, when they were finished, I noticed the horrible white overspray. It was everywhere. I suppose part of the problem was the 2nd painter actually did a decent job and didn't paint the moldings a bumpers black, so they remained white from the previous paint job's overspray. I was in a hurry when I picked up my car, but later that day I examined the paint job closely and noticed all of the white overspray. I called Earl Scheib and Anibal told me to return and they'd fix it. Well, I returned and the way he fixed it was with an index car and a can of black paint! No joke. He held the card up to the painted metal parts, and sprayed the moldings black. I had to point about 20 different spots out to him and we went over the entire car. However, there were still problems and still are to this day. I returned one more time and he painted more of them.... Another horrible problem they created was they broke both door panels off, then they denied they did it! All I know is that when I gave them my car, the panels were snuggly on and never wanted to come off and after I received my car from them, they will not stay on. They keep coming off, even after they're pushed into place. Clearly, they broke the snaps that help them snap in place. I also notified them about the doors right after I got the car back. Anibal kept telling me the guy who can fix them wasn't around and when I finally made an appointment to see him, he wasn't there when I got there. Anibal tried to fix the door panels himself and they ended up slipping off again after a day or two. I called Earl Scheib and asked them to fix the door panels and they denied doing it. They didn't seem to mind me calling and calling or even coming by, but they were never able to fix what they broke. Therefore, I finally got fed up and contacted my credit card company to reverse the charge. They did. However, they wanted a statement from a car painting company to confirm my story. I went down the street to Caliber Collision Center and one of their professionals examined my car. He saw the horrible overspray and the broken doors and gladly wrote me a letter saying they did an awful job. I submitted the letter to my credit card company, along with my receipt and paper work from Earl Scheib. Several days later, I was informed that Earl Scheib was contesting the chargeback and that the money had been removed from my credit card account, again! Truly unbelievable. A few days later, I received a call from a guy who said he was one of their higher ups and wanted to see my car. However, after calling him back and asking some questions, he became argumentative and he denied breaking the doors. It was clear to me that he had no intention in fixing the problem they created, but was only going to deny everything. After a heated conversation with him, I hung up and contacted my credit card company. They said they wanted a 2nd opinion from another car painting company to confirm what the first one said! Unbelievable, again. Thanks a lot Capital One.... So, that's where this issue stands now. I don't know if I'll ever get my money refunded. However, this review should give you plenty of information about the Earl Scheib on 3820 Rosecrans in San Diego. I'll never return to that store and I will discourage anyone from going there. Justin is the bomb! My car had suffered the ravages of the druggies and gang-bangers at my apartment complex, who had, a few years back, taken to keying, scratching & etching epithets on my poor car. Also a fading gold color and a few well-placed dents had the ride looking very ghetto It was time to cough up some money and get a new paint job. I saw that Maaco was having a paint sale and called Earl Scheib up to see if they could match the price. Actually, this Zook's location will match prices and they are very flexible with your schedule and making sure your car is done and ready on time. If Justin tells you the car will be finished, it will be finished per his word. This section of Rosecrans is a little bit rough. Very near the trolley and right across the street from the County Nut House so I would advise dropping your car off and having an immediate ride to take you home. Still, the roaming looney tunes are not enough to detract from the 5 YELP STARS I am giving to this Earl Scheib store. Also, the used car dealers that line nearby Midway Drive are always taking their cars here to get a quickie touch-up, so that bodes well for Zook's too. Having a good manager like Justin, who is organized & knows what he is doing is part of the appeal, as well as the affordable prices. Now, if the crackheads at my apartment would just quit scratching FAT on my car trunk, I should be just fine! read more
