Last week I booked a color, cut, and style with Zona in Norwell. The directions from the salon were for someone going south to North. I was going North to South. The computer directions were incomplete when I booked. I am not from this area, and I could not find the salon. The salon had asked for a credit card on file. If you read my reviews, you know that when I'm trying out new places, I like to grab a Groupon to see if it's even worth my time or money before I make an investment. That's how I found this place, and I thought it would be a decent risk based on the fact that it was an Aveda salon... But unfortunately I was very wrong. I bought the Groupon thinking that this was a good idea. It included a full head of highlights, a trim, and $10 towards a purchase of an item. I thought great, this is a great price and very convenient and it's Aveda and even a not really great Aveda experience is better than a pretty good not Aveda experience which is totally wrong in this case. I got there a little bit early and checked myself in. I looked over the merchandise which always smells really good to me however I think it's overpriced. Unfortunately the first impression was bad, because my stylist Megan was late for taking me back and nobody even gave me an expectation on how long I would be waiting for past my appointment time. Because we're military family, I have the "recipe" for the color that I like, written on a card from my home provider so that they can pick up where she left off wherever I am. In the 10 years that I've used this recipe, I've never had a provider get it wrong, it's always excellent... Except this time. Megan took a look at the recipe card and went to the back it came back with all of her materials. She talked very fast and very extensively about her life and what's going on with her and her future, and I honestly think maybe she got distracted and didn't realize how long she had put the product on my hair. Regardless at some point she checked one of the foils and freaked out. Turns out either she got the recipe wrong or she did it for the wrong amount of time and bleached my hair out to a complete straw, in both color and texture. She rushed me to the sink to wash the product out but unfortunately the damage had already been done. She attempted to sell me on doing a glaze to try and tone down the dead straw of my hair, claiming that that was part of the recipe which I know it's not. During the wash out process she was so rough and vigorous that she was actually hurting me. At one point I did ask her to be more gentle because she was pulling my hair and it was hurting me, which I think is really ridiculous that I even had to say that to her. She did put a toner on, but I understand that toner is temporary and eventually to wash out and I will still be stuck with hair like straw. Hoping for the best we went to the chair and she began to blow dry my hair and sure enough my hair was completely ruined. She even asked a neighboring stylist what they would do, but there's really no going back from bleaching hair out it's pretty much permanent. She asked me if I wanted my haircut which was included in my Groupon, but after what she did damaging my hair so badly, I couldn't wait to get out of there and you better believe I didn't want her putting scissors to my hair as well. After all of that, even though she did not cut my hair, they still charged me full price, even after permanently damaging my hair. I think this is totally ridiculous and completely unprofessional. Nobody stepped in to try and help things, and no discount was offered based on her poor craftsmanship. Now I'm left trying to figure out how to salvage this mess and I couldn't wait to leave. Learn from my mistake, don't go here. If you do go here, don't go to Megan. What a mess! I expected so much more from a salon that carries and is branded by Aveda, and this is not at all what I expect from this brand. I will definitely not be returning, and if you ask me I would recommend that you not go either. read more

Editing to clarify my writing and update based on my feelings now that I have slept on this experience. Let me say this first. The scheduling team is top notch. Very kind and accommodating folks who were more patient with me than they had to be when I needed to move my appointment around a few times to make it work. I came in for a wash and blow out. While I was getting my hair done the stylist called over a person(who I assume was) an intern and had her start blow drying working the opposite side of my head that the stylist was working on. The other person was very nice but it was obvious she was inexperienced because they were unable to operate the clips properly and they got my hair stuck in the circle brush.. the stylist let her know she didn't have to help anymore and continued on the rest of my hair. Once it was done, one side looked completely different from the other. If this was a $30 blow out I wouldn't have said anything but this was a $50 blow out. I would probably be a lot more pissed off if I hadn't had an excellent experience with the scheduling staff, like I mentioned. I really wish the stylist would have pushed through and done both sides of my head because she really did a wonderful job on the one side she did by herself. read more

I just want to write this so maybe they can change something for the better. I called salon morning of to see if anyone had availability to do a toner and blow dry. I was in a wedding and wanted to brighten up my blonde a bit because it had gotten really brassy. They had an appointment that morning soon to when I called which was great. I waited about 20 minutes after my appointment to be called. He didn't introduce himself to me. He sat me in a chair and looked pretty confused. Another stylist next to me ended up saying hi (also didn't tell me his name or ask for mine.) I'll just call him stylist # 2. told him I wanted a toner to get rid of yellow and to brighten it up. He said stylist #1 would get me started. I was at the sink and got a shampoo. The stylist #1 then asked a girl doing shampoo what he should for my hair. I thought whatever it's fine he's prob just new here and needs the experience hoping whoever is experienced steers him in right direction. I don't know what was put on my head but I knew it didn't smell or feel like a toner. After about 10 minutes stylist #2 came to check said "it's looking great" and stylist #1 shampooed it out. He sat me In chair to blow dry me. Put no product in. Looked really confused started to blow dry me. Stopped. Then asked another girl to do it for him. She introduced herself. Selena. Or maybe it was Serena? Anyways she was super sweet and did a good job blow drying my hair. No one came to check to see if toner came out okay during blow dry or after. When i was leaving stylist #2 said come back to get highlights but didn't say anything about the tone. My hair looked exactly the same tone if not a little more yellow! I was so frustrated. I went to pay and just didn't want to get into it because everything took forever here. Then stylist #1 came to me and said let me see and I said "it doesn't look any different" and he AGREED with me. The manager who was right there for this convo still charged me. No one asked further questions. Anyways, besides everyone being nice this was the worst experience at a salon I've ever had. I'm a barber and in hair industry and it's super important to AT LEAST introduce yourself! Not sure if no one is experienced here or what but I felt like i walked into a cosmo school. I can't say enough about this Salon and my stylist, Eileen!! I bought a Groupon knowing little about this salon other than that it is an Aveda salon. My 'regular' stylist is on maternity leave and when it came time for my summer do, I knew Aveda's reputation, training, and high standards would translate. I was not wrong! From the moment I walked into the gorgeous, industrial loft-style salon, I was treated like a VIP. My sweater was taken off my shoulders and I was immediately offered a choice of replenishing beverages. Talk about hospitality! My stylist, Eileen, came to greet me with vigor and excitement. She was as thrilled to be styling my hair as I was to have it styled. I described what I wanted for color and came with a picture in tow (see the picture I posted of my hair vs. the photo Mrs. Timberlake :-) Eileen was gracious and confident. She made sure she understood what I wanted, and moreover, made sure I understood what she was doing and why! Other than walking out of the salon with the perfect cut and color, Eileen made this new, unfamiliar salon feel like a place I'd been a million times. New to the area, I noticed that Zona was an Aveda salon, so googled to find out more. I saw that they were offering a Groupon, so I purchased one for full highlights and a haircut. THIS review is for my second visit, which was today, to adjust an unsatisfactory color done there a few days ago. I had Brandy today as my stylist and she started by saying she was sorry for the reason I was there. That was the first apology I received, even after speaking with one of the owners about the mishap, so it was much appreciated. Brandy adjusted my highlights (which had previously ended up darker than when I first came in) by doing a detox shampoo, color cleanse, and a re-gloss. She also made improvements to my cut and finished with a very nice blow-out. I appreciated her efforts in rectifying a situation that was not her fault in the first place, and her good work has me considering a repeat visit to this salon, even after my one-star experience three days ago. I desperately needed a haircut before leaving for the Christmas holiday and since Zona Norwell was totally booked, I was advised to go to Zona in Weymouth since they had openings that afternoon. I had an appointment with Eileen booked. When I got there, the salon was running behind, but I was offered the chance to work with Shannon (who worked as a junior stylist under my normal stylist, Kristen, at the Norwell location). Sure! It seemed like the front desk was a little unorganized, but it was clear that they had a lot of last minute appoints to attend to. I received a great haircut and had a great time. I recently moved to the Boston area to attend graduate school and needed a little distraction as finals came to a close. I scheduled an appointment on a Saturday and was paired with Colleen. WOW. I gave Zona a shot after moving from LA to MA and getting some great recommendations from family members in the area. My aunt and cousins get their hair cut here, and they've always had great experiences and walked out really happy, so I figured I'd give it a try. I'd never been to an Aveda salon, and when I called I asked the receptionist to book me with someone senior who was good with creative color. Short version of hair back story: I like to play around with my color, and have done two (now three) color corrections in about two years. I've done the ombre thing and gone back, and my target color is an even, red copper, a smidge brighter than naturally possible. I go to my appointment with high hopes, after finding the receptionist and facility to be really nice. It's been a few months now- I actually debated writing this review as I don't like to write the not so nice ones- so I don't remember the stylist's name. The stylist was perfectly nice, but as I explained the history of my hair and talked a little about expectations, she got nervous in a subtle way. I didn't think about it until after the fact, but I should have known I was in trouble when she didn't show me a swatch. Anyways, I ended up a brunette. I'm naturally a brunette. I mean, I think I am. I haven't seen more than a quarter inch of my natural color since I was eleven. Side note: I was leaving town for training for a new job two days after this appointment. Where I was having professional photos taken. That will now follow me for the life of my tenure at this job. In the salon lights it looked vaguely red. I didn't panic. I didn't cry. I knew what this meant. Color correction to go lighter again. More color to try to get it brighter seemed plausible. Maybe I'd like being a darker shade of red? I washed it. All vague red notes washed out. Took pictures. With a nice shade of brown hair. Damn. The next month I figured I'd make an appointment and see if the stylist could help me get back to my redness. She'd left the salon group by that point... so I tried again, this time at the Hingham location, because they are open Sundays. Again, very nice salon, really lovely staff.... and this time, Sharon Osbourne cherry coke, dark blue-toned red hair. No swatch shown. Under the salon lights again, it just looks red. A week later, I officially hate it! I decide maybe I don't like getting my hair done on the east coast. Maybe I should make millions at my new fancy job so I can fly back to California monthly for color? Unrealistic. Long story short, I've found a new spot, done my color correction, and I'm copper red again. I almost, ALMOST didn't write about it, because I didn't really give these guys a chance to fix their mistake, and considering that it was a great experience, i certainly wouldn't want to write a truly bad review over something that's essentially a training point for us both. That training point? Swatches. If you're crazy like me, and you color and color and color, make sure you see a swatch the first time. If you're a stylist and a nut job sits in your chair with a back story, show her some swatches, and deliver the color she's asking for, even if it means you have to pull in a manager! read more

This was the 2nd time out of 3 that a stylist I booked an appointment with was late. The first time was 50 late and they did not charge me and the woman was very nice, but my son and my sister were stuck driving around for some time. Tonight, after waiting 17 mintues with no sign of someone coming to get me, I asked to be seen as I had an event to get to. The hairdresser finally finished with her other client, but no washing stations were available so it would have been another 10 minutes even after the 20 some that I had just now waited. I went in & got a pretty basic cut before going out of town for the holiday weekend. Over the weekend, it came to my attention that I had a haircut that looked more like I was in grade school. I called the following Tuesday to let them know I was unhappy & immediately they gave me an appointment the same morning with a senior stylist. So pleased to have finally taken the plunge with an appointment at Zona in Weymouth. Bob did a great job with my color and cut -- exactly what I asked for. Multidimensional color that looks natural and "me." He was also very nice and helpful. The salon is also very nice. Minimalist but inviting with reclaimed wood and big open spaces. Reception personnel are flat out, stuck-up and rude. This is place is not on Rodeo Drive, but they sure act like it is. The "stylists" there couldn't layer a cake, forget hair. If you want a straight bob or have one-length hair, probably ok. Suffered 2 nightmare haircuts, one included a bad coloring of my medium auburn into a dark brown. Ugh! Should've learned my lesson with the first hack job, but it was close and I was stuck for time. Never again! Also, they are really overpriced and the place needs a good cleaning. read more

Kind of a funny story! I saw a post on FB that said that Frank Zona was looking for a model to use for a hair-education class. To sweeten the deal, the cut and color would be free! I went in on a Monday at 12, looking to get blonde highlights. The stylists were great and Frank was very nice and courteous, but unfortunately, I left with reddish, brassy-looking streaks! About an hour later, after some thinking, I called back to see if they might correct it. I returned to the salon and they were so kind and considerate! I don't know why it's taken me so long to post a review! Zona is my regular salon and I absolutely love it! Bob is my stylist and is AMAZING. We went to high school together and I started seeing him while he was in the Norwell location and have continued seeing him regularly at the Weymouth location. He really takes the time to listen to what you want and make it a reality. When I was ready to make a change in my hair cut game I brought in a picture and he made it a reality. It's been a few years and I STILL get compliments on the cut and direct them to see Bob. Quite a few of my friends go to him now too! He is also an amazing colorist. I am a natural redhead but he is great at getting me out of my comfort zone as we have dyed my hair every shade of red and even a fire ombre that went from red to yellow. I have never looked ridiculous, always natural and beautiful. Like myself with the dial turned up. He also can do a beautiful updo if that is all you are looking for. He is also so friendly and fun. I have a great time every time I step into Zona. I've gotten to know other stylists there too and I feel like it's Cheers whenever I come in. Everyone knows my name! A few months ago Bob was out sick so my appointment got taken over by Eileen and she was just as great as Bob. We had such a fun time chatting and she made my hair look great. In response to other posters saying that they push products on you..I have never ever had a problem. If I ask they will recommend something but if not they have never tried to make me buy retail just for the sake of buying. Do yourself a favor and GO HERE! read more

So I had a appointment with Romina however at the last minute Romina was not feeling well so she went home and Yobi took over. My first impression of the salon was clean, cute and modern aesthetic with a nice touch of Christmas elements to add to the decor. I was greeted by the receptionist. She told me the situation which I was s little put off by but because I had never been to Romina before it wasn't a huge deal. Yobi didn't introduce himself but I just followed him back to the chair not much of a chatter but I am pretty personable so I started the convo. In this line of work you can't be shy . I felt like because he had to cover for someone he was a little put off. I got a great head massage and he started talking a little bit more. I showed him the picture of the cut I wanted he told me what he was thinking. Very basic not too excited . Vague even. The cut was okay blunt ends he had the picture but I told him what I wanted .He blew out my hair with a round blush but didn't put any frizz product in it. So in turn because my hair is thick and wavy it was a challenge for him. He also curled my hair with the round brush because their was no product it became increasingly frizzy. I asked him to curl it like I initially wanted. He couldn't quite curl my hair with the straightener it seemed he had trouble with the look I wanted to achieve vends out. Chrissy was walking around and I assumed he asked for help so she came over took initiative super friendly and knowledgeable and achieved the look in the end. I liked the over all finish however because their was no product in my hair it was frizzy a little poufy. All in all I liked the achieved style but i feel more product should should have been put in and more communication. read more

I found Zona via a Groupon, and was so fortunate to get Nicole as my stylist. She was warm and welcoming, very knowledgeable about everything from what cut would be flattering to my face and awesome color / highlights, which was handy since I wasn't sure which direction I'd go with my hair that day. I got so many compliments on my 'do! I've now been back twice, and am so glad I found my go-to stylist. Nicole is a 5 star stylist. The atmosphere is pleasant, industrial chic. They have a fully automated appt. system, so you'll get emails when your appointment is approaching, as well as a phone call. Ample parking. **A caution to other Grouponers, make sure you are a new client and have not purchased another Groupon from them in 6 months. One of the best haircut experiences I have ever had! All the women I interacted with were extremely warm and welcoming. I had a Groupon and that's not always the case when you have one of those. I had Amanda as my hair stylist and she was fantastic! Very sweet and gave me exactly the cut I wanted. She was very easy to talk to and very friendly. I love my hair! I love the experience even more because it is hard to find a good hair stylist who is also a warm and friendly. She was awesome! Rebooked right as I was walking out. I have been to Alessandra Fisher twice now and I cannot say anything besides great things about how she has cut and colored my hair. I initially saw the Groupon options and referred to Yelp for opinions on the services and read that Alessandra was someone who recommended ombre to clients who were looking for new color options. I had recently tried this with my old stylist, but it wasn't noticeable, so I was excited when I read the reviews of Alessandra's coloring. I went with my Groupon for a full foil, cut and botanical treatment. From the woman who checked me in to meeting Alessandra, everyone was nice, welcoming and friendly. Alessandra knew exactly what I was looking for and my hair came out great! I was so happy with the outcome. She was easy to talk to, was genuinely interested in my past haircuts and styles and what ideas I had come in with. She didn't force products on me, but did show me what she thought would help my color and styling. The second appointment was just as great- and I left with the same feeling of having a rejuvenated style. It was affordable and they have a wide range of hours to accomodate different schedules. Alessandra is such an Amazing stylist! She is always so helpful with her recommendations. She is very friendly and goes above and beyond with her services. She gives an amazing cut and color. She is very professional. I highly recommend her!! The salon however needs a deep cleaning. As I sat and waited for my color to take. I noticed dirty baseboards,hair galore all over and dust. The bathrooms had no toilet paper or hand towels. I told a staff member 2x that these items needed replacing. I then used the bathroom after to still find no toilet paper or hand towels. The natural light near he front stations is so bright that it's hard to see the actual color in your hair. I had to go home and get a better look. I love Al but hard to overlook the salon problems. read more

I purchased a $27 groupon for a haircut, botanical therapy and $10 product voucher. I had never been to this salon so I asked the receptionist for a recommended stylist who was good with thick and curly hair. I was scheduled with Jessica just 2 days later! The salon was surprisingly big, modern and very clean. The receptionist was very friendly and I was offered water or tea while I waited just a few minutes. Jessica was very personable and heard out all my likes and dislikes about my hair type and past styles. She agreed with what I was thinking. I came out with a great cut and purchased the product she used when styling.
