My friend and I enjoyed our evening out for dinner and drinks. When we arrived we had to get our ID's scanned. No ID No entry as per security which was weird to me but oh well. We took the elevator to the rooftop. Wow, was my first impression on just the ambience. I've seen pictures but the place in person is just gorgeous. Definitely didn't feel like I was in the Bronx. We were seated immediately and were able to take advantage of the happy hour drinks at our table. My first drink was a guava martini which was delicious. My 2nd drink was the passionfruit martini which was just okay. My friend had the sangria which she loved. I ordered the pork chops with rice and beans and plantains. The meal was delicious and hearty. I was able to take home leftovers. My friend ordered a seafood dish and asked the chef for a special request to keep the sauce off and he obliged. My friend enjoyed her meal. We took pictures outside of the beautiful skyline. The beautiful chairs outside add just enough charm and comfort to welcome you to chill and drink, lol. They have a separate area inside that just for drinking and lounging which was cool. The live band showed up later in the evening offering more to the already cool scene. Overall we had a great time at this restaurant/bar. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. The manager went to every table to check on patrons. Ok so I am very on the fence about this place I really wanted to LOVE it - from seeing photos and raves on Instagram Luckily one of my good friends ended up having her girls birthday dinner here and I was super excited to check this place out . It just opened not too long ago . She made reservations for 7pm on a Saturday this past June. This place is located on the top floor of the Old post office on the Concourse. The entrance to the restaurant is in the back street " Anthony j Griffith street" . It's a one way that you enter on 149th street. The area is sketchy- deep in the south Bronx . Not a lot of parking so I would advise you to pay the $20 bucks for valet. They give you a card with information to text them when you are ready to leave and they will have your car ready . I felt very comfortable with the Valet - they were friendly and informative . I felt they took care of my vehicle. You then stand on line to get ID checked by security. Sound like in other reviews - there is a dress list that I wasn't aware of. Luckily I was dressed in a dressy jumper with dressy flats ( diamond- like studded) - and I had no problem. I believe you need reservations in order to get up from what I was hearing too but I would check before you come. Security was friendly and we had no issues Once you get thru security- you take an elevator to the top. It's pretty exciting once you step in... music playing, gorgeous decor .... We were seated right area on the outdoor patio area ... there is an inside dining area as well It's nice to come when it day time , sit thru sunset into the night . I actually like it better during daylight into sunset best. There was a live band playing Spanish tunes which was awesome and added positively to the ambience. Service was ok. Our waitress started out very attentive but at the end - it seemed very busy and took a while to get the check Cocktails ... they were pretty good . I had a few guava mojitos Sounds like 4 stars at least right? Ok so this is where I start to tell you why I'm only at 3 stars . We ordered several appetizers- the empanadas, the Mofongo and the Maduros relleno dish . First off - you don't get a lot for the price and two - they all came out lukewarm at best. C'mon all three!?!? We were so hungry we ate them . I supposed we could have made a big stink but we didn't. But trust me- lukewarm to cold food is a big no no for me. And they were just ok to me. Dinner came . I ordered the ropa vieja - friends ordered the Blake's vaca Frita, the mar y Tierra and the camerones dinner . So even though my ropa vieja was very tasty- BUT again it came out lukewarm even after I told the waitress that our apps came out lukewarm to cool. Smh . UGH On top of it - the fire alarm kept going off - ON and OFF for what seems like an hr long . NOT ENJOYABLE. I was wondering the whole time- if there was a fire- how would everyone leave ? Not that one elevator lol One more gripe- there is NO dessert menu because they only have ONE dessert. ONE. It came out with the birthday song and dance for my friend . And the dessert was just OK. After dinner- we checked out the rest of the place but honestly I was kinda done. Manhattan prices for lukewarm food , spotty service and loud fire alarms in my ear!?!? Do not book private events here. I rented the private lounge for my father's surprise retirement party and was shocked by the state of the room. It looked horrible and doesn't match how it was advertised at all. Dead plants and palm trees, mismatched tables, stained carpets with debris everywhere. Imagine spending nearly $9,000 for an event and this is what it looked like. A few of my guests arrived early and they commented on the poor condition of the room compared to the beautiful decor in the rest of the restaurant. I had to spend the hour before the party scrambling to make it presentable with table cloths and arguing with the manager who was trying to convince me nothing was wrong. He said the best he could do was extend the open bar by 45 minutes but that was not worth the stress and frustration of trying to make the best of a crappy situation. I wanted to have a glamorous experience and it honestly felt like we were put in the back supply closet where they stored the extra furniture. I picked 5 options for passed appetizers and they only brought out 3 that I ordered and then two other random options - I'm guessing it was whatever the kitchen had left over. At this point I had been arguing with the manager all evening and decided to focus on enjoying the event. I had planned this party for months and I was so disappointed that they were not able to deliver the experience I paid for. I'm giving one star instead of zero because of Victor and Henry, our servers, treated us well. I will never patronize this business again. read more

This spacious restaurant was decked out with palm trees, flags, and a vintage car - This is a great spot for celebrating special occasions - Although the food is on the pricier side, you definitely get what you pay for. The food portions were very big and the drinks were strong - There's live music! One of the band members also plays the birthday song on his trombone for those celebrating a birthday Things to note: - As the music is loud, it can be difficulty to hear your party. - Reservations are a must if you would like to dine in. - This restaurant can be difficult to locate. It's behind the post office. - Service was inconsistent. Our waitress was attentive at the beginning, but toward the end it was very busy. HOLY AESTHETICS! First of all, the Zona de Cuba is located on the quieter side of an antique-looking and enormous post office building, and its entrance street is narrow and intimate with cobblestones. Already an incredible welcome in the south Bronx. There's super convenient valet parking, but I was able to find street parking for free on an adjacent street for my early Sunday brunch reservation. I was greeted first downstairs in an unsuspecting lobby where my reservation was verified, then sent up on my way in an elevator. A hostess greeted me by first and last name and the party for the senses started inside this explosion of color and flowers and signs and creatively bright displayed bottles and great music. We were the first party to arrive for brunch that day and the place was filled with delicious smells already. We were completely wowed and couldn't wait to come back in the warm months to see what the place looks like when it is fully open as a rooftop. The food was a show. Completely delicious. I don't give it five stars because the service was inconsistent and it lagged. They took a long time to take our orders and even longer to bring us a check, even though the food came out fast. Although some grace is given due to the widely known fact that the world is understaffed, our party of two was the first to arrive and our server was obviously hanging out around the bar and responded poorly to our first request to need more time with the menu. What an amazing find!!!!!! I've been following them on Instagram since the beginning of summer and now that I live in Jersey (24 mins away) I decided to visit. They have Valet parking which is super convenient. Be prepared to pay $20 on the weekends and $10 during the weekdays. It's totally worth the price. They text you your valet information and when you are ready to leave you text back " retrieve my car" and your car will be waiting for you outside. I suggest you make a reservation for dinner, it's gets crowded on the weekend. We did not have a reservation for Friday night, but the hostess was so amazing she hooked us up with a table with no wait time. Here's where it gets good. Not only do they have a DJ on Friday nights but also a Live Salsa Band!!!!!!!! They were INSANELY AMAZING!!!!! Had the crowd litt, people were dancing everywhere. If you love this type of atmosphere, you won't be disappointed here. Next is the amazing service and Food. Our waitress was so sweet. It was my birthday and she gave us 2 complementary glasses of champagne to start off with. The food was reasonably priced and it was delicious. It's a rooftop with half indoor/half outdoor seating. What a great experience! I came here for a Pre-Mother's Day dinner. It was about 7 or 8 of us mothers. First off, finding the place was easy peasy. The front looked great and the interior was equally great. It was a bit of a wait for the elevator to head up to the actual restaurant. Luckily it was manned and so they shuffled people and food carts on and off in an expeditious manner so that we weren't made to wait for more than 15 minutes. FYI: You can't be seated until your entire party has arrived. We made reservations. Dress code: ranging from casual elegant to elegant. Some of us were in blouses and flats and others were in ripped jeans and sneakers. When it doubt, dress up and not down. They have great spots to take pictures and plenty of picture worthy views to take in. Don't miss the wall of champagne or the retro style 50's car next to the stage where the live band was playing. I'm not sure if that's any every night thing, but they were playing and kicking when we got there that Saturday evening. We must have heard Happy Birthday 27 times. The female server was on point and expertly handled our table and a few more and they were big parties like ours. No one had to wait too long for drinks. They did have to remake my drink as they used the wrong wine base for my sangria. I asked for white, and they brought me red. The sangria and every other drink that was made for the table was perfection! I had two glasses and truthfully that's all I needed. The drinks were strong according to the rest of my diners. We then ordered appetizers - and there were a few seconds being ordered because the first round was that good. As she brought out drinks and appetizers, she then collected everyone's order for dinner. I had the salmon and subbed for mashed potatoes and some sort of acidic green salad that really brightened the whole meal and helped to break up the richness of everything. There was silence as we ate which meant the food was delicious. Lastly, a single order of chocolate lava cake or some sort of chocolate dessert was ordered. It looked so rich in flavor. I passed as I was quite full from the glasses of water, the sangria and my dinner. After everything was said and done the total for 7 to 8 or us was about $700. FYI #2: There is a surcharge when paying via card and for a party of our size, gratuity was automatically included. I'd say that was pretty reasonable for all that we ordered and for what we got. We're planning to make this an annual thing each year and I'm looking forward to going back when times are really back to normal. PS: They did have the igloos outside but I believe an event was happening and there were dividers between tables but in all honesty, the place was packed and you would not have none this is COVID times. I was very disappointed in the service my family and I received. Now I will say the place is nice looking and the vibe is pretty cool, but when it comes to cashout, that is another store. We went there to celebrate my father's 73rd birthday, we ordered food and went to pay. The bill was originally $550 so we paid $160 cash and the rest to be divided by two credit cards. The waiter comes back and says the waitress messed up the order and was going to add an additional $175 to the bill, so immediately my family requested the manager who explained the bill. Ok, so we said take the rest out from the credit cards. On the way out the door, the manager chases us down to say that both transactions had been voided and that we owed the full amount of money. Ok, he calculated an amount that did not sound right as it was almost 350 per card. I asked about the cash and he asked, you paid cash? He asked the waitress and yeah she said we did pay part cash. My thing is this, you all knew we paid cash as we explained everything to you. Furthermore playing off like you didn't know really upset me, especially for the outrageously priced food that was ok at best for the price, then stressed out my father on his 73rd birthday making him very uncomfortable to people who are out-of-towners to visit our home town after so many years being away. The experience was not great and I have to be honest, I will never return to this place again. I've come here on more than one occasion and I'm never disappointed. I first came when on a date. The atmosphere was beautiful. Rooftop, palm trees cute and cozy lounge seats. It was beautiful. I had the whole snapper with coconut rice, it was amazing. My date had the oxtail which was equally as good and the presentation was everything. I also had the lychee martini i was great. I went again for a dinner party I given for my cousin. I had the oxtail myself this time and it was just as good as the time I first tried. I also had the empanadas which are really good. Wow where do i begin? This place is amazing! Everything from beginning to end was amazing! When you first walk into the lobby there's a guy there checking reservations so please don't get embarrassed tryna do a walk in. Once your checked in they only allow four at a time on the elevator. Once you get upstairs to the restaurant it's beautifully decorated. Flowers everywhere hanging from the ceiling it's very romantic. There were plenty of families there as well with their kids so it's an all around bring whoever type of feel good place. We went for Valentine's day and they had a great special for $70 pp. Which includes appetizer, entree, dessert to share and a bottle of wine. You really cannot beat that! The food was so fresh and delicious. Where we were seated we could look right into the kitchen and I gotta tell ya I love when restaurants are set up like that. They had a dj and a live band. The waitress told us the live entertainment is usually on Fri, Sat and Sun. We fancy a sweet red wine so we opted for the Merlot and it was so delicious. We left floating to say the least lol. The dessert was tres leches cake and two mini fruit tarts which were so good. All in all this place again is amazing. A little piece of Cuba in the Bronx! We came here after hearing great things from friends. Made a reservation via their website (highly recommended) and parked valet. As much as they've gentrified this area, it's still not the best. When you arrive they check your temperature, write down info for contact tracing, and only allow one party at a time in the elevator to the top. Very COVID safe. Inside you're taken to what feels like a restaurant in Cuba. Open windows, music everywhere, everybody having a great time. We were seated near where they typically have the outdoor area (in normal times) and were able to watch the sunset. Our waitress (Raquel) was great. I had the coconut mojito and it was delicious. The Henny Coco was also very good. We split each of the empanadas for an app and the chicken was the best. For my meal I had the grilled chicken topped with cherry tomatoes and onions, with shrimp, with garlic sauce. SO good!! I also chose yucca fries for my side and they were equally delicious. Only one restroom in the back of the restaurant but we did spot a larger one towards the front/where the elevators are located. They allowed dancing near your table, which was nice. I only knocked off one star because the busser accidentally threw out our leftovers when we asked for them to be packed up to take home. Luckily the manager and waitress felt terrible about it so they whipped up extras for us to take home instead. Great place and definitely a gem in the south Bronx. read more

I lived by this place for years and never knew it existed until I was invited there for a birthday dinner during COVID. And I have to say I was completely blown away, from the time I got there until I left! It is kinda of hidden so if you're not looking for it you will certainly miss it, as I did. But once you arrive you have to wait in line (kind of like a club line) so plan on arriving 10-15 minutes early. They do enforce social distance aka the line so they can conduct temperature check, check IDs, and make sure all guest are wearing a face mask above the nose. But once you get off the elevator you're transformed to Cuba. The decor is absolutely beautiful and the view is stunning. But the live music is the best part of it all! Our server was very nice and punctual and once we were seated she came over right away to take our drink orders! Everything that I ate from the apps to dessert was full of flavor and presented beautifully!!!!! The only reason I didn't give this place 5 stars because they charged me extra for using my credit card which doesn't make sense, especially during COVID-19 where contactless payment should be encouraged. I never place a negative comment for any business because as someone that was involved in that field I know it is not easy to operate a restaurant. If you are planning to spend the time at the bar with friends while have some drinks and appetizers this is not the place to do it. My friends never were loud, never spilled a drink and more importantly never disrespected the staff nor the patrons. Had the best birthday dinner experience here in September despite the COVID 19 pandemic. This place is huge! Perfect for indoor and outdoor dining! The staff accommodated our reservation despite bing a bit late. We were all asked to have our masks on upon entry but were able to remove them once seated. My party sat outdoors and had a decent distance between other tables. The food and (strong) drinks are incredible! They kept my birthday cake in the fridge while we dined and sang happy birthday to me when they delivered it to the table. There is a $5 charge per person when they have live entertainment, which I think is ridiculous. If you're dining here - why would there be a charge for entertainment? Let's talk about the food. I was very disappointed. Firstly, this place is overpriced. We ordered calamari as an appetizer, and they were over cooked, very thin and didn't have any taste. We sent it back. I ordered pork chops with black bean rice. The order came with 2 pork chops. One of them was edible. The other one was hard and dry. The rice had some hard pieces, like the bottom of the pot rice. My sweet plantains tasted burnt! I asked for a kids menu, they only had chicken tenders and french fries for kids. The chicken was very dry and hard and also tasteless. I also asked for a kids lemonade. Waitress said she didn't have plastic kids cup. I said ok no problem. When the bill came, the lemonade was $10!! I asked to speak to a manager and he was very understanding and took my opinion into consideration. Our waitress could've also been more attentive. She never asked if everything was ok or if we needed anything else. I ate most of my food because I had already sent back the calamari and didn't want to continue to complain. I went to this spot for my graduation. Loved the look of the place. They had valet parking which was nice. Drinks were delicious and food was good. My waiter was so sweet and gave us shots to celebrate my graduation. I would come again. read more

To be honest I was invited out for a birthday brunch celebration and that is how I stumbled upon this restaurant. We were supposed to be seated in the igloo on the outside but due to the heat it was suggested it's best that we change our location. Though disappointed that was understandable. The service was nice and the scenery and ambiance was super dope. They had a live band and that was very enjoyable. However, the food was not amazing in my opinion. The empanadas and my drink was very tasty but my main meal was not memorable. I had the grilled chicken sandwich. Not worth the time! Perhaps trying something else would be a better option. Around the table some people enjoyed their meal and others did not. I would not knock this place off the list but go with someone who's been there before perhaps and knows what to get or just take a shot knowing it could be a fail. This spot is a total vibe: the setup, the live music (a bit too loud in my opinion-- can't hear the person sitting beside you), the rooftop option. The drink selection is extensive. They've got anything you can think of. The food was good but nothing extraordinary. It also came out within minutes, more than likely due to the 1.5 hour seating limit. The oxtail did came out in a very cool presentation: a flaming pot. If told that it's someone's birthday, staff comes out with a big speaker, hats, a flashing sign, etc. They give the birthday person a gift box of original Spanish candies that are very hard to come across nowadays. Unique approach and the experience put a big smile on the birthday boy's face. Very strict policies to even get into the building. Make sure you have a reservation. They also require a credit card when making the reservation because they will charge you $20 per person if you do not show. Be aware that there is valet parking but I'm told that they charge a steep price. There is a parking lot around the corner which was half the price ($8) via BestParking app. I would return especially in the summer. It was a good time and the staff makes sure of that.
