ZOETRY RESORTs - VILLA ROLANDI - EPICURIAN DELIGHTs
Epicurus, a Greek Philosopher held the highest good is pleasure and that the world was a series of fortuitous combinations of atoms. Not sure about that last part, other than it could be attributed to the newest in culinary wizardry, like molecular formulas, some of which you might even experience at Le Metisage. Executive Chef, Felipe Vega, (originally from Chile and who has trained under Master Chef Paul Bocuse) is true to his heritage & of Mexican, Italian dishes and is constantly pushing the gastronomic envelope with his Chef d'cusine, Adrian Regalado, to deliver new and memorable nuevelle cusines. His Chef-in-charge,Pedro Pina, for the main restaurant and his crew are masters at preparing the classic dishes that have mainlanders and hotel guests raving. Fast forward 2,347 years from Epicurius'view and you have the epitome of epicurean delights at Zoetry Resorts, Villa Rolandi. Long time Restaurant Manager, Gerardo Burgueno (who trained in Paris) keeps both restaurants running like a well tuned race car, making sure guests want for nothing. By design, Z/VR is devoted to the pursuit of sensual pleasure, especially in the enjoyment of excellent food and comfort. Sensous and luxurious living is yours to be enjoyed while staying at this quiet little gem of a hotel. The list is evident in their pledge of 'Endless Privileges', pehaps only eclipsed by their one-on-one service and wish to 'Create Memories'.
I have written previously of Villa Rolandi, 'Bella Amore', 'Mi Casa su Casa' & 'Escape to Fantasy Island'. And like so many here who have reviewed and extolled the virtues of this small botque hotel, it's really really hard to be more effusive. Safe to say, if you are seeking to rest and relax, (the Wellness Spa, although a little pricey, as noted by previous guests, is a Mayan experience not to be missed). Especially nice new touch is Ricardo's complimentary ice cold cucumber eye bath and soothing head & neck massage poolside. Be pampered and enjoy the simple pleasures of being catered to at every turn and savor artfully prepared food - you have found the perfect spot.
All hotels of this caliber, strive to provide extraordinary service. It all starts with General Manager, Marco Soria, originally from Naples, Italy, his Italian charm is infectious. He is the consummate host who makes a point of getting to know his guests. He manages his staff, with a gentle touch and emphasis on perfection. The smiles and gestures of kindness that come from these VR staff members, is nothing short of, 'best of the best'. All you have to do is ask and your wish is granted. They have an uncanny ability to anticipate your every need. I wouldn't be at all surprised if they didn't make it a game behind the scenes, to know each guests name and favorite menu or drink items. That is dedication, followed by their saying "con mucho gusto" making their personal service, unquestionably genuine. Tipping is neither required or expected, but how can you not reward these hardworking people with your gratitude with a few extra dollars a day during your stay. Awards are nice, but it's the guests that truly recognize what Z/VR has to offer.
Maybe it's a result of getting older and set in one's ways, you become a little less adventurous and resort to being exclusive to those places and things that are familiar. The Ultimate Driving Machine is our joy on the road, at sea, we only cruise on Windstar, a pre-dinner Martini to sooth away the rough edges of the day and our favorite place for peace and serenity is Villa Rolandi. It has been said, 'it is the journey that counts, not the destination'. Well, why not make this an extra special journey and upgrade to First Class, on your favorite airline, you'll be met at the airport in Cancun, driven to the marina and taken by Private Yacht to your destination, where nothingness begins. If by chance you have to take the UltraMar ferry service it's quick and efficient. Due to rough seas on our return, the hotel arranged it all dutifully coordinated by Karen the Concierge on hand at the island Ferry dock and at the other end. Do yourself a favor, give yourself permission to treat yourself to a vacation like no other. Here on Isla Mujeres, a unique island in the Caribbean, at a resort who's reputation precedes itself. If you are a returning guest, the point is mute, you already know what to expect...Epicurean Delights.
PS: As always, our sincerest 'thank you and fondest wishes' to all our VR extended family who looked after us, hasta luego until our return - Muchias Gracias & Tanto amore. www.charleswoollett.com - Writer/Traveler/Foodie read more
