Lovely food. Reasonable price for what you get. Nice service, a bit eager to give you things that they charge for eg olives and bread though

I was staying in a nearby hotel, so I decided to try Carluccio's for dinner after work. I ordered…read morethe calamari as my first course. The coating was incredibly tasty; light, crispy, and just a touch of salt. However, the calamari itself was overcooked for how thinly it was cut, so it was far more chewy than it should have been. Definitely a shame when the coating was so tasty! I ordered linguini pesto as my next course. It was posted on the menu outside, so I was surprised when it was not on the menu after I was seated. I mentioned the discrepancy to my waiter and asked if it was possible to still get the pesto; he asked the kitchen and they said yes. I am a HUGE fan of pesto and this lived up to my expectations. It was not overly oily, the ingredients were blended so that no single ingredient overpowered the others. Add to the dish the freshly grated parmesan and this course was a delight. I ended my meal with the tiramisu. I've been disappointed over the last year or so as more restaurants off "their version" of tiramisu. Sometimes it's little more than coffee-flavored pudding or various ingredients arranged on a plate. Not here. Instead of playing around with the dish itself, they instead used their creativity on the presentation. It was served in a stemmed glass with a fresh ladies finger as garnish. It had a nice balance of coffee flavor, without dripping from excess coffee, and the cream portion was firm but still creamy. All during my meal, the wait staff was attentive without being overbearing. I was allowed to enjoy my meal without someone hovering, which I appreciate. After a somewhat disappointing start, the rest of my meal more than made up. I'd definitely be glad to go back to Carluccio's on my next visit to the area.

I used to fear Carluccio's. Back when you're a child and you depend on familiarity when eating out,…read morethe world of Carluccio's is all too much about cured meats and sundried tomatoes. Fortunately, I am now a grown up and am more than happy to experiment with my food habits. After spending the morning wandering around the shopping centre, we went to Carluccio's for a change; there are plenty of coffee shops, but they're nothing special, and our last Cafe Rouge experience here was borderline tragic. There's a fixed price menu, which my mum ate from, but also their usual range of goodies - pasta, salads, small plates. I opted for the goats cheese and roasted pepper salad, which was tasty, if a bit over-leafy; I mean, I enjoy my greenery, but at certain points in the bowl it was positively jungle like. The balsamic dressing was tasty, well balanced, but there was a serious lack of pine nuts. Before this I devoured some battered courgette, aubergine, and red peppers - salty and hot, these were a real treat. Mum's bruschetta looked delicious, with warm bread and cold tomatoes and peppers, and her chicken milanese was simple but effective. The service earned Carluccio's its extra star as we were greeted by a friendly young woman who instantly complimented my mum on her outfit, cheering her up no end. It's things like this - attention from the staff that goes beyond wanting your money - that makes people return again and again. In a place lacking in original food, Carluccio's is a good pick when you want something different.
