Hello friends! Who knew that Italian food was so popular in London? Zizzi Italian was one of the food chains we saw the most of on our trip to London. So, we decided to try Zizzi Italian out to see what the hype was all about. The menu here is pretty well-rounded with classic appetizers, pasta, pizza, calzone, risotto and desserts. What I liked most about their menu was that they had lots of unique options including pizza with wagyu beef and pasta with crab! Our food took a while to come and being as hungry as we were, sitting in front of the pizza oven in the open kitchen did not help one bit! The casareccia pollo piccante was spicy chicken, spinach and casareccia pasta covered in a creamy tomato sauce. The pasta was served in a cast iron dish instead of a plate which kept the contents warm throughout our meal. We liked this because eating food hot is the best way to enjoy it. The pasta sauce was ample and there was a good amount of toppings on it too. We also liked that there was a light sprinkle of cheese in it to make it all the more flavourful. The dish was spicier than we thought it would be though so lil' bun didn't end up having too much of it. Luckily, Old Bean and I were there to eat her part! Next up was the Risotto pesce which came with king prawns, mussels, squid rings, chili and white wine sauce. There might not have been very much of it on the plate but goodness was it amazing! It was nice and creamy but not very strong in cheese or white wine flavour. Mother Deer and Old bean hadn't had risotto before but they were definitely on board with it after this because of how flavourful it was. As I met up with my cousin from France, we looked around and discovered this place, conveniently, and decided to go in for a fabulous lunch. There was six of us total. We were seated right away. We got there when the restaurant was slow but as soon as we sat down or did it really pick up, we each ordered pasta, pizza, and and various other dishes to share And can I tell you everything was delicious. They even brought us some wine and because I made a great connection with the server he even splashed me with a glass of champagne all in all I highly recommend this place. We didn't have a reservation but we opted to sit outside which was no problem. We sat ourselves outside and our waiter, who was Italian, was amazing. He was really good with treating our 8 year old daughter like royalty. They have a kids menu that includes a starter, a main, and a dessert. The food was really good. Welcoming environment and smiling faces were absolutely toppled by the incredibly poor food and sub-par service received at this venue. Initial service was prompt for the three of us, but upon receiving food no follow up was made by a member of staff. There were more than enough staff, and the place wasn't close to capacity, yet it seemed like guests, not just us, were forgotten. Food: Hands down I can say this is one of the most pathetic attempts at Italian food I've had the displeasure of tasting. Mixed olives and soul bread was ordered to start, and while the soul bread was tasty, the "mixed" olives contained all green olives with the exception of 1.5 purple olives. The thing that really left me questioning why this place is still open, was when I received what was listed on the menu as "lasagna." This supposed lasagne was less than 2cm deep, with I believe one layer of pasta, the most rationed amount of meat sauce, and totally disproportionate and overly rich and peppered topping. It was more like eating a hospital's version of a hot pot. The second order was a vegan Rustica Zucca that was very sparse on its squash topping, considerably less than shown on the picture. The pizza dough was overworked and dense. The only dish that was enjoyed was the porcini giganti tortelloni, which was perfectly cooked and well seasoned. My cousin and I stopped in here for something to eat after we were done shopping for the day. We were quickly seated downstairs and our waiter came over immediately. My cousin and I both ended up ordering the lasagna as I was looking for something hearty. My cousin enjoyed the dish, however the lasagna was nothing like what I was use to in the United States with the ricotta. Definitely too much béchamel and not enough cheese. Don't get me wrong, the dish was definitely well made, with fresh ingredients and hot, but it's not something I'd order again. Other than that, the service was great and maintained great even as the place began to fill up with patrons. The next time I'm in London, I'll definitely stop by and try the tortellini dish instead lol. read more

Wow. What a disappointment! It's disappointing to eat bad food anytime, but on a vacation, when you're really looking forward to the food, it's even worse. Stumbled on this place, the place was packed--looked good, so we walked in. We had a seat downstairs, lovely waitress that was great the whole night through. The one star is about the food. It was really bad. Here's what we ordered: SPAGHETTI W/VODKA SAUCE: Honestly, if I was blindfolded while eating this, I would guess there was no sauce on this at all. Completely watered down and tasteless. I've never made a vodka sauce but I can tell you for sure, that I could make one better than this with no recipe, and while blindfolded! Possibly the worst sauce I've had in my life. SPAGHETTI BOLOGNESE: My daughter ordered this, and I begged her for a bite out of need of relief from the tastelessness of my dish. To my horror, it was just the same--super watered down and tasteless. SHRIMP RISOTTO: My wife ordered this and it was also a watered down mess. We also ordered the shrimp appetizer. The shrimp was the dreaded farm-raised rubbery kind...bleh. Didn't eat even one. Ordered the mini meatballs also for a warm-up and those were of the rubber kind as well. The only thing redeemable about the night was the wine. I ordered the house red and it was very good. Oh, and the waitress was great. She was from Iran and was a sweetheart. If you paid my next meal here, I wouldn't come back to this place. If the owner is Italian, he should be embarrassed. read more

As much as I adore italian food, and as much as this is the closest restaurant from where I am staying, I don't think I'll set another food there. The service is a disaster. On an early evening dinner, when the restaurant was practically empty but kitchen full from what I can see, we waited 40 minutes for our bruschetta (just toast bread, and add tomatoes guys! I love the thin, crispy based Italian pizzas they serve at Zizzi's. I come here at least once a month and always have the Trentino pizza - it comes topped with delicious parma ham, rocket and mozzarella and is so big it's really good value for money!! The garlic bread is really tasty too, chunks of it served up on a wooden platter - great for sharing, and it's topped with rosemary which gives it a unique flavour. My hubby has tried the meatballs and really enjoyed them, but has now discovered the Sofia pizza which is topped with spicy chicken, pepperoni, sausage and hot green chilli - this is now his firm favourite!! What makes dining at Zizzi's even better value for money are the monthly email vouchers they send you if you sign up to their newsletter - buy one main meal from the pasta and pizza menu and get a second for £1, so you end up paying less than £20 for 2 huge pizza's, a couple of soft drinks and a tip; pretty good for Covent Garden! read more

Another visit to Zizzi - zizi in french is something completely different;o) I wonder if they did their market research before they decided for that name as it is going to be hard to expand into France :D Pizza's A'OK I would say, a bit pricey but nice (personally I think they are way better than pizza express if that means anything). The thing that brings Zizzi down is that its, during daytime at least, seems to be some kind of daycare center for kids... Child friendly is OK, but this was going over the top. The seats we were presented was next to some wooden pieces on the wall, that for some very obscure reason the kids in the restaurant was allowed to paint on with restaurant supplied pens/pencils. We quickly asked for another table as we were sitting just below this wooden thing on the wall and the kids were running up and down the wall-mounted sofa. Not sure what the waitress was thinking in first place, didn't she like how we looked or did we say something wrong? In what country does a couple coming into a restaurant for a nice lunch want to sit in the kids 'arts and craft' section? Anyway, once we got our new table we were far away from the creative minds and all was good. Otherwise quick service and no hassle to get the attention of the staff. Zizzi really did not meet the expectations, which are: 1. quick service 2. relatively tasty food 3. filling portions I ordered a salad with chicken which came with a few pieces of chicken and lettuce, butternut squash and tomato mix and 2 pieces of bread. Given it was priced around 13 quid, I've had way, way better salad in other chain options. Service was slow, payment was taken at the cashier by the door for some reason...Just not what I was looking when it came to a team lunch. Will not be back. read more

I'm a long time fan of Zizzis - the food is unpretentious, generous and always delicious. Working in Covent Garden, this is my local and I visit fairly regularly, a lot of times alone. I'm always greeted and served with a smile and attention and the restaurant is always clean and lively. The food is always very well prepared and presented. I often use Voucher codes and the staff are always happy to use them and are very hospitable. I wouldn't hesitate in recommending it to friends as it's an excellent location with good prices. read more

They should name this place Zizzi Delicious!! The food not only looked good, smelt good but also taste bloody delicious!! When we went it was a full house.. Their was a small queue of hard core Zizzi customers waiting for empty tables to come up... The staff were friendly and always came by apologising that it shouldn't be much longer for a free table... I always enjoy going to Zizi's, there is always a nice atmosphere in this particular branch. The decor has a nice Italian feel about it, without being tacky. The food is really good. The portions are generous and the prices are very reasonable. The staff are friendly and attentive. This branch has a nice outside area with plenty of seating. The atmosphere is just so great! Its feels like you are in Italy, something different from everyday restaurants. The staff is really friendly, I mean it. Mostly I received really bad customer services in London restaurants, but at Zizzi they make you feel so welcome with a smile on their faces. The food is just amazing. I ordered Sofia pizza and it was the best pizza I ever had. Its healthy not like the pizza-hut pizza plus the price is just amazing, we only paid £12 for 2 mains. Although soft drinks are expensive but its normal in London restaurants to charge so much for drinks but the tap water is free of course. Many restaurants don't offer tap water in London. Zizzi is the best place to go have a lunch/dinner with your partner or friends... read more

This branch of Zizzi is just opposite the Royal Opera House and so perfect for dinner before/after the shows around Covent Garden. Last night I went to a performance with a long (75min) interval so we went over to Zizzi for dinner. We told the staff we only had 75mins to eat and they were fab! Took our order really quickly and the food came fast - we even had time for a yummy dessert. I had the Rustica Bufala pizza which was nice and light with a healthy supply of sun-blushed tomatoes. It could have had more mozzarella however to make it more pizza-like! The Chocolate Melt was really delicious - it had a hot gooey middle with cake outside and served with ice cream. Simple but lovely. I was really impressed with how quickly they served us (especially as they were really busy) so I definitely recommend for anyone wanting a quick dinner before/after/during a performance. read more
