I've waited a little bit of time to share my experience with living here for a little over 2 years,…read moreand I hope to be fair and share both the good and the bad. First let me say that everyone I worked with was amazing. The front desk staff are very kind, polite, and helpful and always seemed to be doing whatever they could to help. Now, unfortunately, the litany of problems. The HVAC- when you move in, they will stress how they pay for heat and air conditioning and that you "control" it yourself. What they fail to mention is that you control what they give you. They switch from air conditioning to heat in early September, and there is nothing you can do about it. They do this based on a misinterpretation of a Chicago city ordinance, which I actually tried to explain to one or two people to no avail. As anyone living in Chicago knows, summer doesn't stop just because the autumnal equinox happens, and there were days where it got up to 86 degrees in my apartment because it was in the 90's outside and there was no air conditioning. When I complained, and even mentioned that this is actually a potentially physically unsafe temperature to force us to live in, they respond that there's nothing they can do and they again quote the Chicago city ordinance that they are misunderstanding. FYI, the ordinance that they cite is one that governs the minimum temperature that apartments can be; it says nothing about the provision of heat. That is, if it is 90 during the day at 77 at night, you don't have to provide heat because there is no way that the temperature inside is going to drop into the 60's, which is what the ordinance forbids. I tried to explain this without success. The unreliable utilities- prior to moving into the Pavilion, I had lived for 26 years in 4 apartments. In my 2 years at the Pavilion, I experienced more power and water outages than I had in all of the time prior. They claim that it is not their fault and always have excuse after excuse (the city doing maintenance, etc.); as far as I am concerned once is unfortunate, twice is a coincidence, but the number of times it happened while I was there is a pattern. I should not have to shower at work or throw out all of the food in my freezer as many times as I did. The laundry- I rarely encountered broken machines, the problem is that there simply aren't enough of them. There are 12 washers and 12 driers for each building, each of which can have God knows how many apartments in them. Also, a lot of rude people do not pay attention and leave their stuff in the machines long after the cycles are done, forcing others to either wait or take all of their stuff out and try to find somewhere to put it. The price- the units are horrendously overpriced. It is not that they are bad apartments, it's that they should not cost as much as they do. The cabinets in my unit were cheap metal with non-adjustable shelves, the countertops are cheap laminate, and the bathrooms look like they haven't been updated since the 70's. The amenities are nice (gym, pool, convenience store, dry cleaner, etc.), but know that you are spending your money on the complex and not on the apartment. It may be a very nice complex, but the units themselves are kind of dumpy. Overall, if I could go back knowing what I know now, I would not have lived here. If you are looking in the area, my advice is to go a few miles north to Park Ridge. That is where I ultimately moved and couldn't have been happier. You will find apartments that are so much nicer for the same price or close to it. I hope this helps some people.

DISGUSTING POORLY MAINTAINED COMPLEX. Our unit is infested with cockroaches, our AC does not work…read moreproperly, causing our unit to be sweltering during the summer, poor ventilation in the kitchen, cheap vinyl flooring that is peeling uup, sewage backlog TWICE now in our kitchen, and mold growing above on our ceiling in the bathroom. Windows are poorly sealed, causing our unit to freeze in the winter. We have requested numerous times for our unit to be serviced, with absolutely no follow up from maintenence or management. We had our own HVAC guy come out last year, and he logged every issue with the hvac system in our unit, including a LIVE HANGING WIRE that could've sparked and cause a fire. This place is an absolute joke of a residential living area. Management is atrocious and do not care about their units or residents at all. Under no circumstances consider this place as a place to rent.

I found Windy City through Craigslist. I had been looking for a Chicago apartment remotely for…read moreabout a month or two, and decided that I would try using a Realtor in the area to help me find my next lodging. After having contacted several listings on CL, I made the acquaintance of some Realtors but decided on continuing to work with Michelle from Windy City. She was friendly, informative, and seemed like she was really on top of everything. The way things started I felt as if I could find a place within a couple weeks. But that's not what happened unfortunately. Despite her friendliness and her warm responses, and after having provided the specs I was looking for in an apartment, I ended up being the one to send her listings I was interested in. I sent her at least 5 listings that I had a strong interest toward, her response was that she would follow up with the apartments to see what sort of availability and additional information could be gathered. The only time I got an update was when I asked specifically about an apartment listing I had sent her and the update was a final update, so she could have and should have just told me - there were none available for my move-in date. I haven't heard anything about the other apartments (it's been at least a month), and her promise to help me look for housing and also send me listings? Didn't happen. I never received anything. To say the least, I've been very disappointed. I thankfully was able to find my own apartment on CL (great site if you know how to recognize real direct contacts) with a great condo owner, but it was to no thanks to Michelle. Friendly but really just not up to delivering.
