A waitress greeted us immediately, took our drink orders and answered all our questions. The fried shrimp were delicious! I also had fried catfish, hush puppies and mac and cheese, which were all delicious. I took the fried okra which was good, but I actually like mine more crispy. The fried green tomatoes were excellent! My wife also enjoyed à their fried chicken. We were delightfully amused at the tin pic pan for plates and old tin measuring cups for the drinks. Our waitress kept our drinks full. To be honest, we were too full for dessert, but I spied peach cobbler and ice cream. As expected, it was delicious! All of the staff were very friendly and we were happy with our experience. I wished it was closer to home to try the supper buffet!

They do serve your drinks in cool metal cups to drink out of which I found enjoyable My dining group was so disappointed in the food they left a pathetic tip which I was appalled at as the servers did provide fantastic service so I went and left a proper tip after my group left. The cost for the buffet was certainly on the expensive side and I could eat exceptionally better food at most of the best restaurants in New Orleans for what my buffet experience here cost. I believe most folks from Louisiana wouldn't enjoy the really bland food here. Overall this is simply just not the best food option for me but it sure seems popular with lots of other people so maybe it will meet your flavor preferences.

Unfortunately for a lot of small towns in the South when the highways were built it diverted traffic away from the towns which then caused a lot of businesses to close. I'm pretty sure this is what happened in this community. I am so thankful that I got on Yelp and looked at lunch reviews, knowing that also Sundays would be hard to find southern cooking restaurants that would be open. Mimi's is actually only open for lunch on Sundays and Wednesdays. It's located in the downtown area in the building that used to be the post office (one of the locals mentioned that to us) And as for the people that live in Mt Olive... Some of the nicest people we have ever met. Aside from the charm and welcoming of both the customers and the owners/staff, the food was AMAZING! I ordered the fried chicken with green bean and mashed potatoes and cornbread. This place is a gem and the community reflects that as well. I don't know if we will ever be back in Mississippi but if we do, we will come back to Mimi's!

And this is 1 spot that hits just about every box for me. They have seats for dining in & tvs. I went on a Sunday right before they were closing at 4. It's already hard enough to find a good soul food spot open on a Sunday. The staff took my order over the phone and I got there 15 minutes later and it was ready. I tried their fried chicken with some creamy mac & cheese & dressing. Now prior to this Ive had similar meals at other locations and was not impressed. This spot definitely made my visit! The food was so hot, good, and seasoned well; even my mom was impressed. So that's a great sign. I would definitely be back.

However, I've never had any cold chicken and cold hard Jalapeño bread. In my conclusion, the food was yesterday's food. You may ask me how do you know? We arrived at 11:05 to place the order. We got our food at 11:15 which was quick. The chicken was cold. The mac & cheese was semi-warm and my okra was semi warm. You don't get this kind of food if a business opens at 11 AM and you receive your food at 11:15. That's why I am calling it yesterday's food. I wanted to ask so badly for them to just put it in the microwave because I saw it on HGTV and I wanted my food to be really great and I wanted to write a really good review for this business. However, I was highly disappointed. Now I am sure the food is probably hot on Sundays after people getting out of church in the south and all those good things. However, I was disappointed on a Thursday! Highly disappointed! The business is only open 3 hours a day so how could this happen? I am just glad we didn't have to stand in line for an hour and 30 minutes for some cold chicken. And I'll leave it at that!
