Our waitress was attentive and organized, taking everyone's order carefully and efficiently. Unfortunately, the experience went downhill due to a clear lack of communication in the kitchen. Multiple times throughout the evening, one or two plates were brought to our table by different servers asking if anyone had ordered them. In each case, the food either belonged to another table or wasn't what anyone in our party had ordered. Two members of our group didn't receive their hamburgers until after everyone else had finished eating and plates were already being cleared. Our waitress returned to the table several times to apologize and explained that there were only two people working in the kitchen and that they were short-staffed, as they hadn't expected the restaurant to be so busy on a Monday night. While we appreciated her efforts and professionalism, it was disappointing to see the owner standing near the kitchen throughout the evening and never once coming to our table to acknowledge or apologize for the situation. Although the two extremely late meals were removed from the bill, most of us received our food at least 10 minutes apart, making it difficult to enjoy the meal together. Things have changed since the new ownership--some for the better--but the service this evening left a lot to be desired. After five years of celebrating together at LHBM, this visit was unfortunately not memorable in a good way. The experience was bad enough that it doesn't make us eager to return.

On our way from DFW to check in near Lake Travis, our 2013 Hyundai started overheating. Panicked, we pulled into the nearest turnoff, which just happened to be an O'Reilly's auto parts. While we waited for the engine to cool, we spotted Shooters and decided to step inside. The moment we walked in, the atmosphere was dark yet welcoming. Mac greeted us with a smile and served up two perfectly cold drinks--just what we needed to calm our nerves. I didn't even care this is the official local Green Bay Packers watch spot. I'm a Cowboys fan... As I was on the phone with my mechanic back in DFW, Mac overheard our situation and took it upon himself to help. He reached out to a mechanic friend at the bar who was ready to lend a hand. Within an hour, thanks to Mac's quick thinking and kindness, our car was fixed and we were back on our way to enjoy our weekend. Shooters offers more than just ice-cold drinks and pool tables; it's a place where strangers become friends. Huge thanks to Mac for his exceptional service and generosity. The line was somewhat long to get into the event as it was at capacity and could only allow more people as people were leaving the event. I was given a drink ticket and got to try the Patio Pounder with ilegal mezcal, primo aperitivo, tropical citrus, coconut, grapefruit soda. The bartender was efficient even though the lines were long. The cocktail was enjoyable with the balance of smoky and citrus flavors. They also had a variety of food bites available including chips and queso. creamy street corn, and sliders. The food was gone relatively quickly due to the crowds but it would be replenished periodically. Overall, Upstairs at Caroline proved to be a solid venue for a creative SXSW event versatile, welcoming, and very on-brand for Austin's arts and tech scene.

There are areas to play pickle ball, soccer, volleyball and even ice hockey. There's an arcade and adults-only bar indoors and several outdoor seating areas, both open and covered. The entire place is very well lit at nighttime. Toddlers and younger kids can enjoy at the playscape with slides. You can grab some food from one of the food trucks, drinks from the outdoor bar and have a great time hanging out. Some of the outdoor seats also have heaters or a firepit.

As mentioned before, there's a poker table and slot machines but they also have darts and pool as well. Definitely a spot you can kill a few hours at without realizing. They also have a good amount of TVs so catching a game here doesn't seem like it should be much of an issue. Between that and the cheap drinks there is more than enough entertainment to go around. One thing to be aware of is that they don't have beer on tap (bottles only) and they don't have any food to serve. They did mention you can bring in outside food or order it to the bar but just being able to order something small can be nice sometimes. Look, Parmer Lane Tavern isn't a Domain bar, and that's okay. It's a good, friendly, and very cheap neighborhood bar that is more suited for a casual weekday night or game day.
