After I spent what seemed like forever looking at the artwork I began to explore the other amazing pieces. There is so much to see wall to wall. I had to pull out my glasses to see some of these pieces up close. I am so lucky to have my daughter who sees what I don't see. I bought my very 1st sage. I have actual Helenite from the Volcanic Eruption of Mt. Helen in 1980. I have stickers and other very amazing finds. Jack was amazing so please say hello for me when you visit. I have no pictures because I would not want to infringe on her unique product. Upon entering we were eagerly greeted and provided glasses to view her art. By using light frequency the art will take on movement such as a painted heart appearing to beat. She leans into powerful themes from nature to nurture and her pieces are stunning. While extraordinarily elaborate full wall pieces may be outside the means or accessibility for all of us - I know personally I lack the wall space - but never fear because she has a variety of other products to capture her work from postcards to apparel. I was very grateful we stopped in because it was a very cool place.

This stall sells original paintings, black and white drawings post cards, and also colored painting post cards. I couldn't afford the original art work but snatched around 20 of the colored painting post cards at 60 cents each! Love these so much and gave them away as souvenirs - my friends and co-workers loved them as well! I highly recommend supporting this stall.

The Duwamish longhouse is an event space you can rent. A fair sized parking lot is behind the…read morebuilding. Located on a busy road, it's easy to drive past without noticing, but inside is the history of Puget Sound and the indiginous people who live here. There is no fee to enter. At first I thought it was a gift shop, but several displays with artifacts and photos are to your right. There is a lot of information regarding the original topography, before civil engineers rerouted rivers and installed dams. It also documents how this activity contributed to the demise of some Duwamish people who relied on these waterways for food.. Artifacts include hunting and fishing gear, hand made baskets, herbs used medicinally and fibers used to make cloth are on display with information on how they are used. Very interesting. A lesson on living off the land. Inside the longhouse are photographs and a canoe you can checkout. This longhouse is built as the communal longhouses of the past were with an elevated platform around the edges that would have been used for sitting and sleeping. It's a beautiful space. After we read all the info (there's a lot of info) and looked at all the artifacts we browsed the gift shop and made a few purchases. They have a variety of artisan made products including beautiful blankets, jewelry, note cards and wall art among other things. We chatted with the staff member as we made our purchases. She answered a few questions we had and we chatted about family. She was very pleasant. This is a good stop for learning local history and purchasing local art.

We had never gone until this past weekend, though, when they held a craft fair. The longhouse is located very near the industrial port area, on the opposite side of Marginal Way, and is very nicely built (wood) yet small. There are two rooms, that we know. The first houses a museum of sorts. In the second was where they put the crafts and behind that is a small kitchen where they were selling a few items, including the hottest item (basically everyone came for this), the frybread. We felt honored to be hosted by the Duwamish. We picked up a beautiful beaded hummingbird. The reason I do not give five stars is because the space was so small, which made browsing the crafts very difficult. Normally I would have liked to learn so much more about each vendor and their items yet here you were lucky if you could even squish close enough to see or buy anything. A couple of vendor spots were less populated, I think because what they had on offer was less of an "easy" sell - gorgeous ledger art and handmade drums. Recommend a visit.

Very small, but interesting museum about the Holocaust and citizens of Seattle who were impacted by…read morethe Holocaust. Check their hours carefully - currently, they're only open on Sundays and only until 4PM. There also isn't a lot of parking around, but if you park at the Amazon Spheres, it should be free and only a short walk away. When you show up, you have to get past a security guard. Then there's a 25 min intro video that shares stories about the Holocaust from the Seattle citizens who went through it. There aren't a lot of displays and I think a person could reasonably get through the museum in maybe 1.5 hours including the intro video. While the museum is small, it was a good time of reflecting and hearing the stories shared by survivors. There's also events that seem to happen at the museum including every month, a Holocaust survivor is around to answer questions.

i visited soil yesterday following the opening of a three…read moreperson show that intrigued me. despite it being mother's day and a sunday, i was happy to see the soil was open and adhering to their posted hours. unlike other more pretentious galleries in the sodo/pioneer square area, this is a small space that may not be able to exhibit a huge quantity of large pieces but what they managed to hang was plenty to get a sense of the artists highlighted in this more recent exhibition. each artist had an "area" with a posted artist bio and multiple pieces. because each of the artists in this specific exhibition define themselves as latinx or chicano, i was particularly interested in how their stated ethnicities would provide perspective with which they would portray their chosen subject matter and for two of them three of them, i was far from disappointed! their works were incredibly interesting in terms of style, color, perspective and media they chose to work in. because soil small, whatever you're going to see is t going to require a long visit. i could see making soil a stop on a first thursday gallery walk. there were two people there when we arrived and they were great about greeting us but letting us look at the art without feeling monitored or pressured. depending on how you decide to get to soil, parking could be an issue. light rail would certainly bring you walking distance close, as would the metro bus. we took the water taxi from west seattle and then walked up from coleman dock which was super easy. there is on street parking in the vicinity but you may be hard pressed to find it on certain days or during certain hours. all in all a good experience and nice to know soil is artist-run. i will track other exhibits they have in the future and hope they manage to stick around for those of us who enjoy seeing art in non-aggressive gallery settings.

There were a few people inside who just stared at me as I tried the door and did nothing as I stood outside the door calling the phone number, which is just a recording telling you to email them. I finally had to repeatedly knock on the glass door to get even one of them to pantomime they were closed. Next time I see something at Soil, just going to assume it's not actually happening, skip getting harassed by the homeless folk outside the gallery, skip being treated like garbage by the folk inside the gallery, and find a friendlier more reliable gallery. I suggest you do the same.
