The space itself is a clever reuse of a former gas station, fitting since we're just off the Mother Road, Route 66. That history adds a nice layer of character to the industrial‑but‑comfortable setting, with plenty of seating for both solo workers and small groups. I was the first customer through the door this morning and ordered a cortado. It was perfectly prepared: served in the proper short glass, accompanied by a small glass of seltzer as tradition dictates. I set up my laptop at a two‑top table right by a power outlet and settled in for two very pleasant hours. I am unhappy about the service I received yesterday here. The only reason I order cappuccinos at "fancy" sit down coffee shops and not Starbucks is because they serve the cappuccino in a mug and not a carcinogenic, pfas lined paper cup. I spend an atrocious amount of money to avoid paper cups. I'm pissed off by the audacity of the barista that I pretipped 22% that I asked for cappuccino in a mug when she brought it out in paper. I told her I was drinking it inside. She told me " we are closing in 30 mins". I'm too polite to argue and don't like to create scenes but it made my blood boil that I paid 5$ plus a tip for shitty partially filled tiny paper cup of coffee barely 5 oz AND was spoken to very rudely/dismissively by the barista. So be warned, don't come here if you want bad service for a lot of money. I could have had the same latte for that price but like triple the quantity. read more

Was fortunate enough to find myself in this beautiful coffee shop today. The service was excellent and the young lady we spoke to was very kind. We tried the Campfire Cappuccino from the specialty drinks menu and a vanilla cappuccino. The Campfire Cappuccino was excellent! It was subtly sweet with marshmallow and white chocolate flavors that balanced perfectly with the espresso. It was clearly well-crafted and enjoyable. Unfortunately, the vanilla cappuccino was a letdown. It arrived lukewarm, even though I ordered it in a glass cup for here, so I feel like I can't give it a fair review. On top of that, it took quite a while for someone to take my order, which was frustrating. The biggest issue, though, was the seating (or lack of it). For such a large coffee shop, the layout felt poorly designed. We couldn't find a place to sit, so we ended up standing to drink our "for here" coffees, which made the experience pretty unpleasant. While I'd be open to giving this place another chance, they let us down on almost everything except the Campfire Cappuccino. The potential for this coffee shop is high. read more

If you like super creamy mochas, you are gonna love Zinc. It's perhaps the creamiest espresso I've had locally. And very consistent too, as I get the same creamy goodness every time I come here. That gets bonus points as it shows the staff is trained to serve the same coffee recipe that you can depend on. Aside from that, the dining room is very large and pet friendly. Service is great. It's also not immediately obvious where you're supposed to order since they have a weird layout when you walk in. Coffee tasted like it was from McDonalds. I am delightedly surprised to find this local coffee joint in Joplin. Let's talked about the building itself, it used to be an auto service garage I believe, you can tell from the industrial look and oversized garage. The building isn't too large so seating is a bit limited but it offers a pretty cool area for study. No wonder why most of their patrons are students. For Joplin, it's a pretty great cafe option. We had a drip coffee (Ethiopian) and it tasted great to my surprised. You can taste the fruitiness and citrus from the bean without too much acidity. We got a Cortado and it tasted alright, a little bitter to my taste if you asked me. It's all about the extraction skills of the coffee barista. All in all, it's a pretty decent experience, even we have to take ours to-go. read more

The employees are much "mellow" so if you're looking for a quick in and out, this probably isn't what you want. I first discovered Zinc while staying in Joplin for a friend's wedding. Zinc got me through the wedding prep! Absolutely solid coffee shop. Zinc is located in an old car repair shop and has a clean, modern look that doesn't feel pretentious. There isn't much parking available out front, but there might be parking in the back as I've never had a problem finding a place to park and the shop is fairly busy. The ordering process can be a bit confusing if you walk in the door by the outside seating as there are two counters; one where you order and one where you pick up your drink. The coffee is delicious! Lavender is of course the hot new drink to offer, but the Lavender Latte here really is top notch, probably the best one I've ever had. It's not too sweet and you can still taste the herbiness of the lavender. The espresso is smooth and tasty. Customer service is great. The baristas are friendly and ready to strike up a conversation should you choose to start one. Really a five star experience overall. read more

There are plenty of windows that allow a ton of natural light in and there are many smaller tables scattered through the area. Good place to study as there are plenty of outlets along the walls. I love to come to Zinc with my friends. Even though I am not much of a coffee-drinker, I can always find something I like here. They have some of the best Hot Chocolate in town, and it is ready to drink as soon as they bring it out (It won't burn you to ashes).
