They were transparent about costs, timing, and services needed, and helped me save a lot in the long run by alerting me that my brake pads were super worn down and needed to be replaced before they started grinding on the rotors and turned into a much more costly issue. So...had my doubts. I'm a ridiculously picky car guy. I worked my way through undergrad and grad school turning wrenches. I don't mind paying a fair price...I know what it costs in tools and training to know what you are doing. I also don't mind cheap if I know what I'm getting...sometimes that's all you need. What I hate is paying a fair price for cheap work. I'm new to the Kennesaw area, was looking for a garage and hadn't found a great fit. I know the owner of the property...he is in the institutional car world, and an absolutely amazing guy. The building had been empty for a little while but the owner didn't want just anyone in it until he put Zimco in about a year ago, and told me these guys were golden. Said they were former dealership guys with some race car experience and a ton of tech experience who decided to go it on their own. Well, I've heard that before. Everyone's mechanic is golden...until they aren't. So, I kept an eye on the place. It started slow. I stopped by a couple of times...owners were working their butts off, wife managing the phones, occasionally kids in the waiting room...pretty typical family run place. I asked some questions, got answers I liked, made an appointment, dropped by friend's car for driveability issues. More than pleasantly surprised at the quality of repair, the knowledge of the tech, and the price. That was probably six months ago. If you drive by, the place is slammed...I'm apparently not the only one that trusts them. They won't be everything to everyone. My take is that they aren't really interested in being the cheapest, but are incredibly focused on finding the problem and fixing it correctly. I don't think I'd take them a car I just wanted a band-aid on to sell it on a streetcorner...and they also don't seem to be too concerned about making it a silk stocking experience for pampering people. They are the place I have taken the car my daughter drives to college, and the one my wife uses daily...and I don't lose a minute's sleep worrying that the job was done right. You might see some exotics in there, or a race car, or even a boat engine (they have a small machine shop) but their meat and potatoes seems to be traditional family sedans and trucks, a lot of them later model, for people looking for dealership work without all the fluff and cost that goes with it. I can not recommend ZIMCO enough. These guys are so honest and reliable. I would never take my car anywhere else and suggest them to everyone I know. As a girl in her early 20s, mechanics can be a little intimating and we've all heard of the sketchy ones who do any and everything to upcharge you. They are honest about what work needs to be done (and what work could wait a while until I have more money). I've now gotten my sister, brother in law, and husband (who typically just does all the work himself) to go here. I plan to move out of state in a couple years and it's a running joke that this place is top of my list of places I'll miss here. read more
