    I am always a big fan of yum cha, no matter where and what time of the day. I do believe good food it need to be able to eat any time! So I went to silver this afternoon after movie, just right bellow the cinema at Bondi Westfield. It used to be Kam Fook reataurant, if I remember correctly. The did awesome transformation to make this Chinese reataurant looks more elegant. Mind you, that the food also not coming cheap! However, in my personal opinion, if you are a big fan, I don't think you should put price tag on the food you loves. Waiter offered me tea, which I don't mind for rainy weather like today. Since I was lived in China for some years, ( and also have Chinese blood in me), I do know some rules regarding "tea manner" on dinning table. So the pointy neck from your tea pot shouldn't be facing you or the guess on the table, old Chinese say it is hoping for some bad thing to happen for the person that "pointed" with it. I was but shock that they didn't notice this thing, as I'm not 'gweilo' I'm expecting they know this tea manner thing. Well, soup coming with $8.80 price tag, I know.... So Chinese, right! 8 represent a good number in Chinese myth. Tasting platter not so bad, all came in good flavour, the only thing is ( again, my personal opinion) need to steam a little longer, a minute I supposed, because I still can fill the rawness of skin that wrapping those dumpling. But hey.. I did enjoyed the food!

Came Sunday at 9:30, already a quarter full. I had har- gow, chicken feet, trip, lotus leaf sticky rice (lo mai gai). The chicken feet were perfect and the har-gow full and plumb with shrimp. I like the way they do the lo mai gai. Smaller portions, devided between 3 wrappers instead of the usual 2. So you get more filling to rice ratio. Plus they wrap the race in parchment paper before wrapping in the lotus leaf, so it's much easier to peel apart. The trip was a little disappointing however. The flavor was very good but good, but should have been cooked a bit longer, as some of the pieces were still quite chewy. I patiently waited for the egg custard to come out, as they were still baking them. Worth the wait, they were perfect! Light flaky crust, and perfectly light and tender egg custard. Plus, they were the "normal" palm size tart...not those mini ones, that many places switched to, to save money. Honestly, these were the best I have had anywhere! As I was leaving at 10:45, the place was buzzing and almost full. They were also bringing out many more items, such as stuffed bell pepper (with shrimp) and stuffed egg plant (with pork). They also had special carts that would make stir fry noodles or steamed vegy at your table. Makes it feel like Hong Kong, which was the last place I saw these, in the early '90s.

Kitchen took almost 45 mins to prepare our beef noodles and it was a total disappointment. Kitchen is super slow and did not have anything other than a few items by opening. We wanted egg custard to finish our meal and was informed it would take another hour before they would be ready. I guess things are cooked fresh on the day which is good but shouldn't it all be ready by the time you open? The little old ladies pushing the cart were very nice and polite. Ambiance is your typical big city Chinese place.

How convenient. She was working a half day to spend the rest with us. It was 2pm and I was starving. She was smart in choosing this time because we noticed it was very busy during the lunch rush. It still was when we got there but a table came up quickly for 3. The restaurant is pretty stylish and modern. The open air seating is very inviting in the middle of the Financial Disctrict. I wanted it all. The food smelled great. The menu was so intoxicating I told my cousin to order for us. I trusted her decisions. She decided to do the same. Nicely cooked still retaining its' color with a semi natural sweet taste and a little snap. The fried rice is fried rice. Nothing to brag about but good. The tofu was deep fried with a spicy salt. Add nori to it I don't think was necessary but it was good combination. Just didn't like adding more salt to it. The squid too was deep fried with spicy salt. Delicious. Now the pièce de résistance was definitely the pork and duck combo. We're talking lechon quality pork. Very surprising to find that here in a Chinese restaurant because that's a Filipino dish. Combine that with roast duck that was cooked well. This is not the time to talk about how unhealthy this is. Let's just enjoy it for what it is. Two good meats basking in the afternoon glistening proudly and dripping juices of sweetness. Good food with good people. Besides, I was on vacation. Another good eats in Darling Harbour. I'm beginning to think I need to move here.

We are all uni students dining on a budget and the dishes are a bit pricier, but the portions are pretty big, so good if sharing or eating family style. There's a wide variety of food options, so there's something for everyone. Presentation of all the food was great and gave the feeling of authentic dishes. Service was fine, a little slow. It was a busy night, so we had to wave them down, but they also have one of those robots that brings the dishes to your table.
