Little did I know I was going to be seated under a massive pine tree with the only view straight ahead and no way to see the floats or parade coming until it was directly in front of our seats. Pushing my sister in a wheel chair was good exercise for me but thank goodness for the golf cart people who were so kind and gave us rides to wherever we wanted to go. We got to see much more than we would have without them. Our lunch was so tasty at the 1919 Cafe, and even enjoyed a glass of wine on the patio. It was a wonderful day. The Museum and gardens where beautiful and inspiring!

To be perfectly honest, if you were to ask me how to describe/explain what The Huntington has to…read moreoffer, I wouldn't even know where to start - quite literally. When I've told friends and family about this place, I've almost always been at a loss for words because there is just so much to detail. And yet, if/when they ask me if it's worth checking out, the answer comes out quick, clean, and clear - absolutely! Sitting on what is/was the Huntington family's estate, this place is very impressive. Within their expansive, palatial grounds, there's a library, multiple art galleries and museums, several botanical gardens, a conservatory, a research center, an educational center, a Japanese heritage house (Shoya House), a tea room, a Chinese restaurant, a milk tea shop, numerous smaller gardens, and so much more. What's more, each of those museums, galleries, and gardens are distinctly different from each other - galleries and exhibits featuring American, British/European, and Asian artwork, a Japanese garden, a Chinese garden, a desert garden, a rose garden, a bonsai garden, a California garden...and the list goes on. Despite having spent the better part of a day walking around and exploring the grounds, I'm pretty sure we only managed to get through roughly half of what there is to see here. Of the ones we did make it through, my favorites were the Chinese and Japanese gardens, as they felt the most tranquil and offered the most shade of all of the gardens we saw. Not to mention the fact that we ended up spending a lot of time here before and after stopping in for lunch at the Jade Court Cafe in the Chinese garden. Among the galleries, I also enjoyed walking through the Huntington's Art Gallery, which seemed to hold most of the oldest American and European pieces, as well as historical info about the Huntingtons themselves. Given how much there is to see here, The Huntington is worth the price of admission, even if it does appear to be a little hefty ($34 for adults, with discounted rates available for seniors, students, military, and kids). They do offer free admission on the first Thursday of each month as well, but you'll need to claim tickets in advance starting the Thursday before. Also, if you're short on time, the visitor center has a list of highlights and suggested itineraries, but you'll inevitably miss out on a lot to see. Whenever you do come here, though, even if it's just to go to their tea room, make sure to bring sunscreen and wear some comfortable shoes, as you'll end up doing plenty of walking outdoors. They do have a tram that circles loops around the grounds, but you'll still have to walk from the stop to wherever you want to go. Just make sure to stop and smell the many flowers along the way!

Came on a Thursday mid day for a complimentary screening courtesy of Focus Features…read more We're always a bit apprehensive about a theater employee knowing about studio screenings so we try to arrive a little early, which we did today. Yes, he did know there was something allowed, but that a manager would need to handle it. We stepped to the side and within a minute a manager appeared and did his magic. Pleasant, professional and efficient. After the final credits rolled, we stood up and saw the uncourteous "blue hairs" seated behind us had their popcorn all over the seats and chairs. But someone was standing by to get it all taken care of. Again, efficiency. Chairs were big, comfy and reclined. The screen image and sound were good. The lobby offered a wide variety of snacks. If we were sugary sweets addicts, or into snacks during a movie, we'd probably be quite happy with the offerings. Plenty of free parking all around this theater and easy in/out with the street light right there. We would come back to this theater because of the friendly, efficient staff, comfy chairs and non stick floors. Cheers! "CC"

We couldn't get the tickets online so we had to wait in the same line as the popcorn to purchase our tickets. I was hoping there would be another faster way of getting tickets like a tablet or something. We ended up getting the tickets and decided to get some snacks. I got a single small White Claw that was about $13 which was insane. We went to our seats and the theater was very small so seats were limited. We ended up in the second row so we had to look up to watch the movie but the seats reclined so that definitely helped. Pretty good experience but not the most practical choice unless you're nearby.

Online…read moreticket sales closed a couple days prior to the event, but I had no problem getting tickets the day of - even though I got there at 6:30 and the event started at 5:30 pm! The map on the event's website was very helpful (http://www.pfarcf.org/images/taste/Taste2014Map.pdf). It lists the restaurants that have ticket sales ($30 per person), and they take plastics! They provided wristbands, a ticket, and a map. This year there were 29 participating locations. However, 2 were connected (Bar Celona and Sorisso), and one I could not locate at all (iPic). I got pretty full after the first 5 stops already, so I think the $30 was worth it. I loved Himalayan Cafe's chicken tikka marsala and Sugar Fix's smores bar. Cafe Santorini was my last stop, and the waiter was extremely friendly and amazing. The bartender at IX Tapa was funny, but the food was just average. (Since we went during happy hour, the martinis were $5. Then we found out later that on Tuesdays, Equator has $1 martinis!). The lady at Umami Burger was super helpful as well. I'll definitely be coming back to those locations. The only non-food place was the Dog Bakery, which was a great place for pet owners! The 2 places I would not return: 1) At Vertical Wine Bistro, the hostesses told us we could choose anything on the happy hour menu. But the waitresses told us we were limited to fries and margherita pizza. After we sat for 5 minutes waiting for a waitress, the group before us told us they ordered fries and pizzas but they waited too long and were leaving. After another 5 minutes, we got the fries. After another 5 minutes, we left and let the next group get our pizza. 2) The worst place was Meat District Co. The guy seated us and never came back with menus or waters. In fact, nobody came around until I flagged someone down to get water for us. We left after 10 minutes of waiting.

Did you know BINGO was invented by the Italians in the 16th century? It was called "Il Gioco del…read moreLotto" and a version of that is still played in Italy today! Eventually word of mouth made its way to France, where it was called "Le Lotto," a game of chance enjoyed by wealthy aristocrats, before catching on in Germany and then finally, to the the United States in the 1920's, when it was called "Beano" because dried beans were used to mark the winning numbers. BEANO became BINGO when a player accidentally yelled "Bingo!" instead of "Beano!" out of sheer excitement and the name was forever changed. A Catholic priest then had the grand idea to use Bingo as a means to help raise church funds during the Great Depression and the rest is history. America's beloved pastime's popularity started to wane in the 90's and 2000's but I'm glad to say Bingo is back, baby, and stronger than ever, judging from the crowds of young influencers and old sticklers alike that come to play this game. Bell-Jeff Bingo, which gathers every Tuesdays from 4pm is by far the best Bingo Hall in the vicinity. It is a clean, bright and calm space, with lots of parking right outside and the most interesting players (hustlers!?) and the nicest, most patient flash card runners/volunteers. I'd be remiss if I didn't mention the food, such as burgers, tacos, and grilled cheese that you can order and eat while you're playing. The whole experience lends to a night of fun and relaxation, a truly wonderful social community event. All the players tell me it's not about the winning that's addictive when it comes to Bingo, oh no, no. It's the whole experience leading up to that win. It's the slow building of anticipation and manifestation, the prayers, laughter, comradery and then finally, the realization of the win. Everyone should experience this euphoric feeling of calling out "Bingo!" and winning $$$ because it is a feeling like no other. Come and experience for yourself because it is like nothing else. See you here.
