Cosy Corners is a small, family owned campground, quite literally in the couples backyard! Barbara and Dave, the owners were fantastic and absolutely went above and beyond to ensure we had a great experience with them. For example, I needed ice from the store and was given a ride in their golf cart. At one point it rained pretty heavily and as soon as it stopped, they came out to offer us all towels. the couple have a vast knowledge of the area and spent a good while talking with us about the things we could do 'off the beaten path'. Did I mention that this campground is at the entrance to Matthiessen State Park and only a mile south of Starved Rock!! Perfect placement. Also, you don't have to worry about the alcohol bans in the state parks if you stay here. The campsite was dog friendly provided the pups stay on leash. The only thing I could say that may put you off would be that there is no shower facility! This didn't bother us, we are experienced campers and had no issue showering under a hose. there are a couple of hoses around so you can access running water. Oh, anther thing! The cleanest camping porta johns I have ever used. They smelled clean and were also lit at night! OK, I could go on all day. I had a fantastic experience and every one of the 10 people in my group on the Saturday night swore they would return. The service provided by Barbara and Dave is second to none! I can't wait to go back!

This place is a bit west of Bloomington Illinois. We stopped here on our way to Iowa just for one…read morenight. The park itself is very pretty, lots of green space, very mature trees that provide a ton of shade, picnic tables, and fire rings and it is very clean. The downside is you are sandwiched between Highway 74 and a train track and it is very loud. I can honestly say and all of our travels this is the loudest we have ever had From a nearby highway. We had our overhead fan running on high all night and you could still hear the semi's rumbling by so we did not get a good night sleep. There is a nice pool here and they had music playing so the kids would probably really enjoy this place. Lots of room to roam! We were assigned slot 19, which is a nice pull through site. We did have a bit of trouble with low water pressure at this site. We also could not get the Wi-Fi to work. We could connect, but the speakers were so low. We couldn't do anything with it. We have Verizon and cell service was great so that worked out for us. At $36 per night for a 30 amp site with a good Sam discount it's a pretty good deal. Staff were super friendly as well.

It was a good place to spend the night while on the road but there are no frills. It's under new ownership who are trying to spruce the place up a bit.

Sadly the rest of the former railroad is long gone but you can easily see the railroad scar left behind on Google maps!

Explained the rules. After that another camp worker, sweet friendly woman escorted us to our spot. I had ordered fire wood online but, when she was bringing us to our site, there was "extra" from the previous campers. Long day of driving ended with a nice relaxing late afternoon/evening. P.S. bonus-nice little gated, Clean dog run. Thank you so much for everything. What a great night. Dogs got exercise, bon fire, cold peanut butter stout. Cheers until next time. I'll be back!!

This time, the owner called me as I was about 20 minutes away to tell me that the interstate exit was blocked and told me an alternative route. If he hadn't called, I would've been taken on a 9-mile detour. We got an escort to our site, which I always appreciate. Not that much noise from I-57 nearby. The lake in front with the geese and ducks to wonderful to view from our front window. All the utilities worked just fine, although the water had a slight metallic taste.

KEEP DRIVING! When…read morewe arrived, after a 10 hour drive, the first thing we could hear as we approached the office was shooting! No one mentioned that the park is next to a shooting range when we called to make a reservation and this is not mentioned on their website. We checked in anyway since it was way too late to find another option. We became more and more unnerved as we drove to the site and observed the condition of the park which seems to be mostly long term residents in junky set ups. Our site ended up actually backing up to the gun range and the shooting went on non-stop until 10:00 pm. Early the next morning we moved 15 minutes away to Timberline Goodfield Campground. It was very nice and quiet!

Many improvements over the past year associated with new lights for walkers and camp site…read moreelectrical upgrades to 30 and 50 amp service. Unfortunately, the electrical upgrade to the campground was delayed until March/April of this year instead of being done in the fall of last year. Now the camping sites are in the process of trying to grow new grass as the sites are being used. While the electrical upgrades were needed and appreciated, the need for a previously discussed lighting upgrade within the campground has not been completed and poses an additional Safety Hazard to occupants of each upgraded site beyond that which already existed. Finally, Daily rates were increased from $17.00/site last year to $25.00 (30 amp) or $30.00 (50 amp) for the 2022 camping season. Longtime and dedicated Friends Creek campers feel that such a drastic cost increase is not justified and in fact, will have A negative impact to the 2022 season. Many of the dedicated campers have already started using other local campgrounds that provide better lighting, larger wash facilities, numerous playgrounds and local restaurants, and for a substantial decrease in daily rates.
