When you walk in, you clearly get the vibe that this is a university student's frequent haunt. As we shopped here, students came in and out, receive a discount, and generally have their needs met with the types of clothing available. However, the selection of clothes in the store isn't so student oriented that a wider audience won't be able to find something of interest. The first floor is more women's oriented, with tartan featuring prominently. The second floor is men's, which had some decent selections of Fred Perrys and the like. When we were there, the store was staffed just by a couple girls on the first floor, and they were pretty deep in conversation with each other. Didn't bother us at all, but perhaps don't expect to have staff catering to your every need here. But if you just like to do your thing and browse through the racks, you should be well sorted.,

I understand this is a risk with 2nd hand clothing, and places don't accept returns etc, but I do draw the line at paying ~£30 for something I literally can't wear. I messaged their instagram page about it and expressed my disappointment that they weren't willing to reconcile this in any way (I said I felt this was poor customer service) and the message I received back was so cheeky I am honestly in disbelief. So here I am doing the only thing I can do since I've literally wasted my money.

Brenda Muir is quite a compact shop - but you'll still find a great selection of outfits. Like many of the other clothing shops along Hyndland Road, it is aimed at women of 30/40+, but that doesn't stop me from heading in and having a browse through some really chic tailored clothing. As well as the clothing, at Brenda Muir you'll also find a dazzling selection of costume jewellery and pashmina scarves of almost every colour. This is a great shop to visit if you're looking for some sophisticated workwear.

I'm afraid it was neither my style nor within my price range despite the fact it was second hand - or gently used as described on the shop front. I did get some strange looks from the woman behind the counter when I entered the shop too, so I get the impression I was not their targetted or desired customer - I think a classier, slightly older lady was expected, one who looks a bit more well-off too! It is all designer clothing, after all. Still, it's a very nicely set out shop - and all the stock couldn't look less second hand - beautifully treated. Maybe I'll come back when I get a proper career and a bit more cash to splash.

While you can definitely pick up a bargain at Isabella's Wardrobe it is a bargain relative to the items original cost. You can pick up a good as new Chloe bag for around £400 but you have to bear in mind that it would have originally been about £600-£800! This isn't a shop I can afford to buy from often but when I get my bonus this year I will definitely be popping in to buy myself to an extra special little treat!

They actually have a pretty big selection considering the size of most of the other stalls in the market. They even sell a couple of fancy dress type outfits - the kind that will make you screech to your companion "OHMIGOD THAT'S SO CUTE." In fact, I'll have to remember not to go anywhere near this place with my boyfriend....

My perpetual tour of 'girly shops' continues…read more Initially the emphasis was on fun and funky accessories in this shop but now, as well as the handbags and jewellery they have a selection of glamorous and glitzy clothes too. Basically it does what it says on the tin! The goods are laid in out by colour, which I like, the emphasis being on colourful tops studded with the ubiquitous sequin and sexy dresses. You know what I'm trying to say. Hopefully. For such unusual clothes, prices are very reasonable starting at around £20 with regular sales.

How did I resist the lure of Oliver Bonas for so long?…read more They always have great window displays and I finally managed to pop in for a quick visit before dining at Ubiquitous Chip. They sell much more than books and dresses - there's also some body products, statement necklaces and accessories as well as selection of homewares. A while back I got two really sweet bowls from a friend and Oliver Bonas had similar ones so I got another couple to add to the set. On the way to the register I also glanced at the cards and saw a perfect birthday card for my Mum, so I grabbed that. Then, while waiting to be served I turned and noticed the Korres body washes were two for £8 (normally £8 each) so grabbed those as well. As you can see, I'm like a bull in a china shop when I go into places like these. There is simply too much stuff that I want (need) and I can't resist. The service was friendly (although possibly a little robotic as the staff member who was serving me asked me the exact same question the other staff member asked her customer), and the prices aren't too bad - for that haul it was around £20. Will I be back? Of course - I can't stop thinking about their great selection of dresses. Oh dear.

I want to buy everything I can get my hands on, and that doesn't bode well with my checking account, but I do it anyway! Today, however, I decided that I would simply be browsing, to kill some time before heading home, and that's exactly what I did. Not only do they have an amazing spread of dresses and socks (cute as anything socks) but they also have books, jewlry, cards, candles and a wee section of kids stuff. It really is a shop full of quality products at reasonable prices. The staff are friendly to boot which is a nice touch in little shops such as this. They make you feel like the want you in their stores, even if just to have a look. There was one girl in there who knocked over and smashed a mug. One of the girls working in the shop quickly came over to help clean up the mess and the girl was so beyond apologetic, it took nothing short of actually giving the girl the broken mug to convince her that it was ok and that these things happen. I love this shop for a quick gift when my brain can't come up with ideas, and I love this shop for decorating tips, as the always have the shop decorated so perfectly. Well, I'd love my home to have many things from this shop. Check this place out, you won't be sorry that you did!

The clothes range also covers expectant mums, glad no doubt, to be able to choose something other than the usual dungarees and huge t-shirts. Recent additions to the shop include very pretty Mother and child accessories and crockery, including a Beatrix Potter range. While not cheap (some of the clothes are crazy dear, craaazy dear) you can rely on being the best dressed Mum or child around, if that is your priority. Anyway, this is a cute wee place with some really funky gear. Ok its a tad pricey but to be honest the gear looks to be of a high quality and its in nowhere near the same ridiculous price bracket as the west end. With a freindly and helpful owener i do hope this place is around to celebrate its second birthday come next year.....me likes.

Opened in November 2008 as Comme des Garcon guerilla store it's aim was to be open for a year and to spend a minimal amount on the interior. However, I believe it is now a 'post-guerilla' store and so is here for keeps. It now stocks other designers along with goods from iconic fashion Japanese fashion house Comme des Garcons. It is a real mix of fashion and some of the clothes are just stunning. A male friend of mine tells me he would easily buy his whole wardobe from here if only it was a little less expensive. The prices vary but can be crazily expensive. I also really like the idea of this little exclusive shop being situated amongst all the vintage shops of the west end.

In saying that, I've bought a couple of Margaret Howell bits that were almost a third of the original price. The shop itself feels like a well laid out gallery, with great natural light to complement the natural finishings. Staff are knowledgeable and friendly and take their time explaining clothing function/details etc. If you've got the cash then this could become a regular haunt. If like me beans are regularly on the domestic menu, then a couple of times a year to find something special with serious reductions is enough.

However, unlike the other vintage shops, the clothes in Retro, are actually vintage. Too many times a vintage shop will showcase clothes which are just 'hand me downs' or donations, but you can see on the label that they're from a popular high street shop. Not so with Retro. All manner of vintage merchandise, including some very questionable dresses, which, though I wouldn't wear them now, I can see I would have back in the 60's. I bought a lovely 20's hat, complete with netting and the shop-worker was very helpful. I tried it on, we chatted for a few minutes about the hat itself, and I felt confident in my purchase. I imagine if she'd been a bit snobbier, I wouldn't have bothered. But she seemed as excited about my purchase as I was, and that's a good thing. A great place to go to get a unique outfit (maybe for a special occasion) that you know that no one else will have. Nothing worse than showing up at a party in the same dress as someone else. A little on the pricey side, but they take good care of their merchandise, so it's justifiable. If you ask, they'll even tell you the best way to clean it so as not to ruin it at home (which is my talent). Seriously, have a chat with them, even if you don't end up buying anything. The service alone will have you coming back again.

Once inside Jasmine, you might think that everything looks a bit jumbled. Don't let this put you off, though, as it's just because there are so many clothes on offer that they all overlap a little! You'll find clothing ranging from cosy knitwear to party dresses, so it is worth having a bit of a rummage. Also in Jasmine you'll find a great costume jewellery range. I saw some really unusual pieces that would make great gifts (either for other people or yourself....). You'll also find a wide range of hats, scarves, gloves, belts and bags at Jasmine. The owner of the shop is friendly and more than happy to help find whatever you're looking for. Definitely worth a look!
