Complaint Description:
SCAM, INSURANCE FRAUD, TARGETING VACATIONERS TO ORLANDO FL. **IF YOU RENT FROM ZEZGO EXPECT TO BE A VICTIM OF A SCAM/FRAUD** READ OTHER BBB COMPLAINTS SCAM, INSURANCE FRAUD, TARGETING VACATIONERS TO ORLANDO FL. **IF YOU RENT FROM ZEZGO, EXPECT TO BE A VICTIM OF A SCAM** 1) Booked airline tickets and rental car (bundle) through Travelocity, top listed rental car was Zezgo. I selected them because I am on a strict budget and they were the lowest rate (top choice) on Travelocity (they get your initial business with lowest rate). 2) Picked up rental car around 6:30 pm (approx.). At the counter, the agent went through their choices, I declined all extras. Specifically, I declined insurance as I have my own auto insurance (legitimate rental car companies offer supplemental liability insurance so customers can avoid paying deductible if involved in an accident, Zezgo auto insurance policies are bewildering - expect to have to provide physical evidence of insurance (card) as well as having significant margins to the state mandated minimums...hint to the insurance fraud piece above). By declining Zezgo insurance, the pre-authorization was $2000.00! This is the highest I have ever seen, and was instantly put on guard for a scam (I now expected to have to defend my $2000 from Zezgo). I also declined their toll service, only option was about $13 a day for unlimited tolls and they stated Florida was go to cashless tolls. Zezgo website and the agent did say I could use cash for tolls, and I called to confirm with my family that cash lanes were still available on the two tolls to their house (answer: yes). By declining, if you go through a toll, the fee is $25 plus the cost of the toll. I was provided a receipt for the pre-authorization charge of $2000. I was required to initial for declining their services. 3) I did the inspection with the agent under one florescent bulb since it was night, no obvious damages, so no marks on the inspection sheet. 4) I got the keys and left. At this point, it did not occur to me that I had not received a rental agreement/contract or a copy of the inspection sheet. This did not seem off to me at first, I travel enough for business where the companies (Hertz, Avis) don't even due inspections anymore that I was not expecting a copy of the inspection sheet. 5) I went to an ATM and got cash, then drove through the first toll booth cash lane and was waived through. At the second toll booth clerk said that the light turned green indicating the Sunpass transponder was on. Now I would be victim to Zezgo's $25 + cost of toll per toll, well over $50 for two tolls that amounted to maybe $2.50. I called and complained to Zezgo (the agent and then the owner) for approx. 30 mins. They were unyielding and rude. Their only response was for me to accept their $13/day toll policy, or I should avoid tolls (challenging in Orlando area). This is entrapment as their website and the agent indicated otherwise. 6) I arrived and took pictures of the car the next morning in daylight. No damages obvious to the car, so I wanted to have the evidence for the expected scam upon return. 7) I drove the car to the grocery store and returned to the house. I parked away from all other cars and grocery carts, and nothing happened to the vehicle. 8) 4 days after I got the car, I returned it full of gas. I again took pictures and was approached by Zezgo agent who check the gas/mileage and then started the inspection. He did one loop around the car in 10 seconds and found two invisible dents that he marked on the inspection sheet. 9) The agent showed me a video from the last time it was rented and how there were no dents. I showed him my pictures and how there are no dents. I showed him how in the video, the sunlight reflection changed over the dents in the video. He did not see any dents in the video (adamant that he was right). He gave me an estimate of $1200 to close out without further action, or risk the body shop estimate. I filed an auto insurance claim and gave them this exact story. They threatened charging my credit card the full $2000 while the claim was processed. Auto insurance fraud! read more
