The agent said I would have to pay $170.00 for returning it late. The agent said it didn't matter if it was 1 hr or 24hrs later. I've never heard of such a high penalty. When I use enterprise they charge $40 to $50 if it's over a few hrs late. Sometimes they waive it since I'm a platinum member. I won't use Budget or Avis rental going forward. Their penalties are highly excessive. It's ironic that their name Is Budget rental.

First, they didn't honor our Expedia price guarantee (never use Expedia either) and charged us about $1300 more. Second, they switched vehicles on us. Instead of a "premium" Ford Tourneo van, we got a Ford Transit that was little better than a delivery vehicle. There were multiple problems with it. Took it because we were on a tight schedule. Fortunately it didn't break down on the trip. I've been trying now for almost two months since we got back to get a refund of the difference between the Expedia price and what they charged us. Getting no where through Avis, Expedia and Capital One who the rental was charged through. Now, today, I get an e-mail from Avis that I'm being fined for a traffic violation that I have no knowledge of. Look up the reviews for this company on Yelp and Trust Pilot. They get 1.5 and 1 stars respectively, virtually NO positive reviews.

At the counter in Columbia I was informed there wasn't any full size vehicles therefore I had to accept a compact. There wasn't any price adjustment offered just the bad news. There wasn't a bad excuse just bad news. I'm a "full size" man 6' 3" 250 pounds. I don't fit well in a compact. This is unacceptable and I am still very upset about this and I expect so much more from a company that is so large and well known. Not to mention I find out at the counter that my charge card will be charged an additional $200.00 for several days. As of this post (06/14/2021) it's been 15 days and counting. I'm sure all of the above is probably written in the small print and I'm sure I will hear excuses about "holiday rush" and "COVID" and "understaffed" etc............ I am so disappointed. I work at a power plant providing electricity to the country. What if we told our customers "sorry, we don't have 120 volts today even though you expect and pay for 120 volts, we will substitute that 120 volts with 80 volts and also we will hold an additional charge of $200.00 on your bill for several days". Is this a common practice of Hertz? Is this what I am going to post on Facebook, Yelp, better business, consumer news, etc? When I arrived at the desk for my 8:30am pickup, the very nice but frenzied clerk (only one there) said that there were no cars on site, and he was backed up going to retrieve cars himself from another location then driving them back. It was 40 minutes before he was able to get my car. Much worse, the hotel staff said that this happened every morning: Hertz central reservations books cars for the Cabana Bay location, but then Hertz Orlando never has anyone actually deliver the cars, so every morning without fail the cars aren't there, leading to 30 - 60 minute delays. Absolutely nuts. After calling Hertz Central to point this out and lodge a complaint, they took my info so that the regional manager (Eric) could call me back. Which never happened. Do yourself a favor, go to Enterprise, which has a location nearby and will apparently pick you up for free at the Cabana Bay hotel. Hertz, you lost a customer today.

    Got a great deal on a luxury rental for spring break. Didn't expect to get exactly the car listed…read moreonline, wondered what "or similar" could mean. Got exactly the sample car that was listed, they had it set aside waiting for me. Fast break line took less than 5 minutes to sign and grab the keys. Car wasn't especially clean, but wasn't so disgusting that I couldn't deal with it. If I had paid full price for the luxury rental I'd have been more upset. Had 1050 miles to use on my rental and realized the next morning they had written the starting odometer down wrong and I could be on the hook for 1,200 miles at .75/mile... yikes! Called the customer service number on the agreement and got right through to a human who knew what they were doing, even on a Sunday. They fixed this right up when I returned to the airport and I didn't have to wait in line. After returning the rental I got charged for fuel by mistake. This was also super easy to fix. If you're going to rent from here, you MUST MUST MUST have their "fast break" option (free you sign up online and can add it to your reservation after the fact). The line inside was 10 times longer than any other rental counter! This would have been a 5 star rating if the car had been cleaner and I wouldn't have had to deal with the mileage/fuel issues. However, they were easy to fix and customer service was very good to me. I won't hesitate to rent from them again.

This…read moreis a convenient small rental office on International Drive in the same complex as Embassy Suites. I was having trouble booking my stay on the budget website. I called direct to this location and they quickly gave me a quote and made the reservation. This office is a small place and they have a lot of child seats that look new. It feels a little cramped but has enough space at the rental counter to sign a contract. Orlando, the budget rental manager was so helpful and got me into a very modern and comfortable small SUV. He talked me into selecting the comprehensive insurance add on. When I turned the car in I looked at the receipt and was charged $35 for insurance and $17 for liability. Double insurance. I pointed this out and he changed my rate. I said no I want this charge off my bill and he said then the rate would go up. I felt like I had into dropped into the twilight zone. I had called and extended my contract for an additional two days. Over the phone he said fine he would extend my contract and add the extra days, tax etc. When I checked out on return I had $12 per day extension fee added to my bill. So $24 additional in addition to the standard 2 day rate. I liked the vehicle that I drove but really do not like what seemed like double dealing.

We had another reservation rent another vehicle for our return and they wouldn't rent us another vehicle until they find the vehicle that they lost from our return. It was a nightmare!

I have never rented a vehicle class and been downgraded to a lower class because they didn't have the class I booked. Now they did this on multiple occasions without blinking an eyelid and thought it was perfectly fine for them to give me a lower class vehicle from what I paid for without reimbursing me anything..!! In addition, there is no walk-around with any vehicles that we booked until we mentioned it..! The vehicles had bumps, scrapes, and cracked bumper, and we were just expected to sign a paper saying not showing those.!! When we queried this, they said it's on the system..! Yet, we don't get to see what's on the system and all we know is that we are signing that the vehicle is in perfect condition..! One of the female employees was speaking to another customer on the phone and she proceeded to make rude faces and rude hand gestures about the customer on the phone, right in front of us..!! The entire staff just did not seem to care, and the cars were dirty when we receive them.. Their general manager gave us a phone call to "resolve" our issues and yet never responded when we called back. Unfortunately, this was one of the downfall of our vacation!!

Customer services on the phone and at the airport could not help me and when I decided to email hertz their solution was to give me a certificate to use towards a another rental within 3 months. I showed up at the desk about 10 minutes ahead of time to pick up the car. No attendant at the desk. I asked the concierge if the Hertz representative was around she said they should be there in a few minutes. 20 minutes pass and still no one is around. I notice a sign was on the desk asking to call a number to rent my car. I call and the woman says she will pick me up in a few minutes. She arrives and we go to a small booth at a strip mall around the corner and complete the paperwork. She asks what time I will be returning the car and I tell her around 4:30, maybe a little earlier if traffic is light. She says that the booth closes at 5:00 PM, so if I arrive after that I can call the number on the sign and follow their instructions. Oh yeah, this place pulls the trick of giving you half a tank of fuel so that if it is less they can charge you triple the cost per gallon. This way they get free fuel since you can't easily see half a tank on while you are at the station. If you pre-pay they charge you for a half tank, not for what is added. I arrive at the booth at 4:40. I write down all the information, check for any damage, pull my belongings out and go to the booth. No one there. I check my watch and cell phone to see what time it is and it's 4:45. The listed hours of operation are 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. I guess the attendant decided to leave a little early. So I call the number on the sign and it is to the Pacific Hotel. I hang up and redial thinking I called the wrong number and I get the Pacific Hotel. I tell them I'm trying to get the Hertz rental desk and they don't understand why they received the call. The person that answered said he was the concierge and was close to the Hertz desk and he would see if there was someone there. He comes back and says no. I head back to the Wyndham and no one at the desk. I ask the concierge and she says there is never anyone there. I call Hertz' customer disservice line and get really poor information. They say to leave the key in the key box at the booth and someone will retrieve the car. I go back down to the Hertz desk and find the box and it's just sitting on the counter, unattached. I call customer disservice again and they say that it is safe, I tell them that since I would be on the hook if someone stole the car, that they need to send someone over in the morning to get the car at 8:00 AM since I was going to be in a meeting all day. She said she would email the attendant at the nearby location and they would call me by 8:30 AM. At 9:00 I called and the person answering the phone says she never received an email, but would pick up the car. I asked what I would be charged and without even seeing the car, she said the amount that was quoted when I picked up the car. No apology for not being there at 5:00 the previous day or for not calling. I normally don't rent from Hertz and after this experience won't even think about it. I suggest that you not rent from them either.
