Such a place filled with Lapland decor. I felt like Christmas came early! We came on a Wednesday night so it was very quiet. Got seated quick and the waitress was very friendly. 4/5 - Mini bilini - the spread was nice. I was thinking they would be small little things you eat with caviar but they were pancakes with very yummy spreads. 5/5 - Salmon soup starter - so good! This might be my new favorite Finnish dish. Almost like clam chowder but with salmon. 3/5 - Karelianin (beef stew with potatoes) - good but not my favorite. 3/5 - Blueberry cake with ice cream - seemed under cooked but just ok. I must say I have to concur with all the previous reviews. This is open late. It definitely is a place to go early as the line up when in turns into a bar is so long. We had no idea. But that being said, I was here to try traditional Finnish food. In this sense, it didn't disappoint. The salmon soup was delicious ! So was the reindeer served on top of mashed potatoes. This was what surprised me the most because I had never tried this game meat before. Yes, of course, I was thinking of Rudolph etc but it ain't Xmas! I liked that the salmon was well done, yet still soft and flaky inside. It went so well with the mashed sweet potato. I didn't like the mushroom soup as I found it too creamy and salty to my tastebuds, so I just left it on the plate. The interior was dark and cool, with a tractor and life-sized cow replica inside (in the middle of the restaurant). There was a full bar with music and small dance floor as well. Service was slow but it might have been because we were a big group, but otherwise decent. It's a nice chill place to enjoy traditional Finnish meal. This was just an OK dinner. We didn't have a reservation, but the restaurant looked fairly empty, but the hostess made us wait a long time. After being seated, they brought us the menu which was in finnish and English! The vibe is really fun.... think Cracker Barrel in Finland. The lighting was very low but they real open flame candles on each table! We loved that part! It took a long time for our server to come over but we ordered drinks and dinner at the same time. My husband ordered a draft king drink and I had a water and a berry cider. They brought out a Finnish style rye bread with very salty butter. (We enjoyed the bread without beverages) They offered a peppered steak as the speical and my husband ordered that! I ordered the chicken with cheese. Both items were delicious but super salty. It was hard to tell who our server was because different people kept coming over to help us! We enjoyed our dinner but it was overly salty! Zetor is a dark, tacky restaurant featuring a rural Finnish theme. There's a tractor in the middle of the dining room converted into a table, and the menu offers traditional Finish dishes. We were started with squares of flat rye bread and butter, which went nicely with the various saucy dishes. The Reindeer Soup was a thick, creamy, rich soup made with smoked reindeer and cheese, all topped with crispy rye breadcrumbs; and the Catchy Line was a salad of lettuce, cucumber, and tomato, topped with salted salmon, shrimp skagen (small shrimp in a creamy sauce), and a boiled egg. Got a seat right away and was impressed that it was a huge place with a tractor. It gave a rural vibe. The service was attentive, receptive and prompt. It is good in Finland you do not have to tip. We ordered a Reindeer soup and a Meat and Potatoes dish with a fried egg. The servers speak English pretty good too. Lots of locals in the restaurant and it seems was a good sign. It has a bit of a "honkey tonkey vibe" with a bit over the top decor, but the restaurant is actually quite enjoyable. The server was very friendly and helpful and we decided to get both the dishes he recommended -- the reindeer stew and the fried smelt which you could eat through and through bones and all. Great spot for Finnish good, flare, and atmosphere. We came here our first night too early, like 6pm, and no one was there, so we left haha. We came back another night a bit later, around 8 and the atmosphere was more lively. Meatballs and steak were delicious! We licked clean our entire plates. Do not order red wine, I tried a couple different ones and they were all the low alcohol, sour-tasting ones. Definitely recommend coming here at least once on your stay in Helsinki! read more

I didn't know what to expect at a restaurant that is in the center of Helsinki (not far from train station), is decorated with tractors, and offers reindeer. Although I prefer regular napkins over paper towels and do not like their candles that glow in your eye, the service, menu selection and food was very good! The reindeer appetizer is really for one but two can share and try some reindeer meat which to me was similar to grass fed beef. The venison sausage were very good. Very lean beef and crispy potatoes. The ice cream was also good but perhaps I should have shared that large scoop! The liver which was recommended was also good but was strong. Tried the reindeer finally with their entree crazy reindeer from Levi, Lapland and OMG. Before coming to Finland it never even occurred to me that people ate reindeer, but it was so good! We ended up here as like a 7th choice or something after we had been driven away from the area immediately surrounding the Harbor. It was the Friday night of the light show - something we did not know - so it was almost impossible to get a table in the area. My main take away from Zetor is that it is Finnish TGI Fridays. That sort of carries all the implications one would assume. The food was better, more expensive, more thoughtful, but ultimately the restaurant was kitschy. The prices were fine for Helsinki with entrees in the 20-25 euro range. There is also ample seating so I can see it being a good place to go with a group. Seeing as we were already committed to the kitschy-ness, I ordered reindeer and my partner ordered meatballs. I found the reindeer very salty but the meatballs were good. Both dishes were hearty with large portions and were exactly the sort of comfort food we were looking for that chilly January night. The last think I really noticed was how cluttered the decor was. I think it was meant to be an old cabin but when you expand that to the scale of a 100 seat dining area, it feels messy. Overall, fine place to eat but we could have done better. read more

When I knew i would be going to Finland, I asked a couple people I know near Helsinki for restaurant suggestions for my one night there. Zetor was highly recommended by them (and yelp! -- I did my homework in comparing the different suggestions). Zetor was an easy walk from our hotel. It was in an area off the main street, so it was a little tricky to find, but then we spotted the sign. The inside of Zetor was eclectic, and the concierge at the hotel warned me that it was not fine dining (we weren't looking for that). There were a bunch of signs, a tractor, and other farming things. There was also a dance floor. During our tour, we were constantly eating, so we were not famished when we arrived, so my party of 4 decided to split 2 entrees and 2 desserts. We had "Crazy reindeer from Levi, Lapland" and "Mummy's boy's meatballs." The reindeer was very good -- tender and tasty -- it does not taste as gamey as regular venison. The meatballs were also very good. The portion size was perfect for us. For dessert, I became enlightened to an amazing food of which I had never heard: "Squeaky cheese." The dessert is called "Lapland squeaky cheese and cloudberry jam." It was the perfect combination of salty and sweet. It looks different from American desserts; it looked like a chunky cheese soup in a light brown sauce... basically, it's this squeaky cheese that isn't too savory, but it is flavorful in a caramel broth. There was cloudberry jam on the side, and I am now a huge fan of cloudberries. The other dessert we tried was another typically Finnish dessert, "Mustikkakukko." It involved a bilberry pie with ice cream. I hadn't heard of bilberries before, but they looked and tasted like blueberries. Overall, if you want a Finnish experience come here and try it out. If I am ever again in Helsinki, I will be sure to stop here, at least for dessert. read more

We hunted for some local food and found this resturant that looked very interesting given the saloon decor with tractors in the middle and very country looking inside. We had a traditional meal or what they said to be transitional it was a bowl of tough steak with three pickles on top. The negative reviews on here are all ridiculous. The food was amazing! The reindeer soup starter was so thick and filling that I couldn't eat much of my main course. We also mini blitz starter and they were full of flavor. For the mains we had a hash and egg meal in cream (tons of meat) and the small fish and mashed potatoes. The couldn't eaten a whole batch of the pickled cucumbers. The restaurant itself was very dark and they light a candle at your table. The toilets were very clean. We enjoyed ourselves. read more

A lovely place with a quirky decor. My comments should be taken as an outsider visiting Helsinki. Firstly, service was great and timely. Very helpful staff. When meals came, there was lots of cooperation to help the server so that everyone had their meal at the same time. I started with the soup which was excellent and very tasty. My main dish was reindeer (what else was I going to order in Helsinki?) and it was amazing. Medium rare and so good not gamey at all which is what I was initially worried about. The meal was accompanied by the lingonberry wine which was sweet, almost ice wine like, and went with the meal well. Finally we finished with a melted cheese desert which was delicious. The wallpaper in the bathrooms are "interesting"! If you are there past 10pm, you can meet some really cool locals on the very active dance floor! What a night! We entered the place at 8:10. We were told by a security guard that after 8PM we have to pay for coat check, which is costly 3 euros a pop. Let me add this: the jackets we were wearing were literally thin enough to be shirts - not coats. I understand policy. But he was so incredibly rude about the entire process, basically saying: pay or get out. I'm still not sure if Zetor is a restaurant or a US airport... There has to be a more customer friendly way of conveying this. Where is the signage? There were literally tons of people sitting in the dining area with coats covering their chairs - do they not understand how upsetting that is when you're being told by a security guard on a power trip that you can't come in with your jacket when there are literally tons of coat within plain sight? Regrettably, we decided to pay the ridiculous fee and tried to just enjoy our meal. But our overly aggressive waiter, whose jokes in English were borderline mocking, made sure that that wasn't going to happen. You know that uncle who can't let go of a shi**y joke? Yeah. That was him. With a Finnish accent. Half-way through dinner he was changed out, presumably because he just found out that he had been cast in some aggro-comedy hour. But the damage had already been done. Frankly, this is one of the most egregious wastes of money I've ever experienced. There are stacks of old adverts on the walls, and we were seated in a chicken-coop with low lights and a menu that's mocked up to look like a newspaper. The food was stodgy but actually very tasty. a strange and quite interesting place, for one visit perhaps. we went late, and it was a weird mixture of tourists and quite strange urban farmer locals. the tractor seats and other curios are worth experiencing, and the beer was ok. the food was I suppose traditional Finnish, heavy, greasy and not that good, but you won't leave hungry. definitely worth dropping in with visiting friends from overseas, just for the strangeness of it.
