It's a gathering spot for several people, which is where I was heading after getting some breakfast. Cafe Engel is open all day, but for the earliest part of the day, they have breakfast, along with coffee and tea and pastries. I ordered a drip coffee and a cinnamon bun, which is a must have pastry anywhere in the Nordic world. And this one here at Cafe Engel was solid, and I liked that it was warm, making it extra tasty. For drip coffee, it's unlimited, which you can pour yourself. The cafe itself is a charming space, with many tables and chairs. When I visited, all of the tables by the windows were taken, which are the best spots because they look out to Senate Square. The staff were very nice, and it's the kind of place where you order at the counter and staff brings you your order at the table of your choosing. Casual and welcoming.

And Karl Fazer is famous for being a chocolatier, so Fazer chocolate is a must try, too. Fortunately for me, Karl Fazer Cafe was located right across from my hotel, so I had easy access to chocolate and coffee here. The cafe was very popular, and what's nice is that they are open the entire day, serving meals or something lighter. They also have a chocolate shop on one side of the cafe that you can grab and go. For one of my visits here, I tried the geisha dessert, which is a specialty, along with a Fazer mocha. They were both good, and I was pleasantly surprised that the geisha dessert was a mix of chocolate and hazelnut since the lilac color threw me off, so was afraid it would be a fruity dessert. But it turned out to be better than expected. Another visit, I tried the cinnamon bun, which was solid. It wasn't the best in town, but solid - and definitely better than anything I'd ever get back home. If you're in Helsinki, Karl Fazer is a name you'll hear - and you'll need to try the famous chocolate and pay a visit to the first cafe of the country. It's easily walking distance to many sites as it's in the city center, and has outdoor seating. Glad to have checked out a place of Finnish history.

It appears there might be more than one location, with a few being almost too close to each other. I was trying to figure out which one is the main location. Once you find it, you will know that this is the feather in the cap of the Fazer brand. This Fazer coffeehouse is not just about getting something warm to drink and eat. It's an experience. This is a large Art Deco cafe' where they didn't skimp on decking out the exterior and the interior to be true to the genre and, of the places to sit, I wound up seating under a slightly domed glass ceiling that was beautiful, so it was no wonder I gravitated toward that part of the interior. They sell coffee, tea, and cakes, but also have sandwiches, chocolate, candy, and more. There are more bins and shelves with goods than you'd expect in a coffeehouse. They were slightly crowded a little later in the evening, but not excessively so. The service here was a little more curt than that at Roasberg, but they got the job done. I had a slice of berry flavored cake and a cup of decaf coffee since it was a little later in the evening. As soon as I saw Fazer's exterior and went inside, I knew that it would be a little more expensive. It's your job to restrain yourself and not treat it like a restaurant with a series of courses, instead opting for a hot drink and something sweet or savory. If the service was a little more upbeat and the prices were slightly more reasonable, it would get 5 stars from me. However, with what I drank and ate being good and with this being such a unique experience, it easily gets 4 stars. I'd gladly return if in this city again and I recommend visiting this landmark coffeehouse.

People ended up sharing tables with strangers and it was a lovely overall ambiance. I of course chose the vegetarian breakfast menu, which consisted of two rolls, butter, cheese, tea (from Johan&Nyström) or coffee, apple slices, cucumber and tomato, 1 boiled egg, juice and a fruit smoothie. One roll was adorably heart shaped and the breakfast was very generous and filling. We shared a freshly baked cinnamon bun too and it was wonderful. If I lived in the vicinity of Tin Tin Tango, I'd have breakfast there all the time!
