Stopped for breakfast-no English menus-and was not disappointed. We had the Hearty Breakfast. No eggs or cooked meats but a lot of bread, cold cuts, cheese and veggies. In other words, a large typical German breakfast. read more

I have eaten here before for dinner, outside in the square during the warmer months. Now I am eating inside and its cold and windy outside. The door is covered and protects from wind and rain. Also a coat rack and magazine selections by the door. I sat at a high top table in the bar and was greeted promptly. She brought us Englisch menus upon request. I received a healthy portion of pommes and a lovely salad. I love the salad because their is mixed greens, not just lettuce (salat). My veggie burger was huge and very good! Obviously ive been here before, but finally noticed the inside is plastered with gin specials.... so... I'll be back! read more

Great little cafe that serves everything from breakfast to lunch, coffee, tea, beer, and spirits. We got the currywurst for lunch and the dunkel and krystalweiss. It wasn't expensive, maybe 8 euro a piece, and everything was good. The restaurant as a lot of cafe style outdoor seating in the Amberg central square, and there are always good numbers of people hanging out and enjoying the nice weather. They also seem to have blankets available for guests when it's chilly. Definitely a great place to grab a quick a bite, get some coffee, and enjoy the central townsquare (just outside the church). I would definitely return and need to try more of the menu before I could confidently rate their food (since we all ordered the same thing). But from what I have experienced, I'm confident giving this place 4 stars, with an opportunity to move up or down based on future trips. We came here recently during dinner time and sat outside. The waiter was a little slow, but our potato wedges, eis kaffee, and local beer were as good as expected. So we're hanging out, when the marktplatz got hit with a haboob. The wind sent everyone rushing inside, and my hubby rushing over to a grab a table umbrella before it fell on some lady (sigh...hero...) The wait service went from slow to ridiculous after that. Not totally his fault, but I think our waiter sort of gave up when his tables scattered. Can't blame him. If I'm here sans baby next time, I want to pull up to the bar and try some Amberg beer. Basically any place that feels comfortable and homey, serves amazing coffee and alcohol and tasty noms is always going to be a favorite hangout. Heart this place, but wish they were a little faster getting food out. read more

Cafe Zentral seems to be a true local establishment, serving anything from Coffee to Beer. I came here for lunch one day and sat outside. I ordered the Curry Wurst with Fries and a beer. The waitress was friendly, but sightly overwhelmed. She spoke enough English to understand our order. The beer and food were both pretty good. read more

We went here with friends on a recent trip to Amberg and were very pleased with food and service! We didn't make a reservation for lunch, and despite the place being utterly packed, they managed to comfortably fit us in upstairs near the bar. We ordered a round of beers (dunkel and hefes) and tucked into some very delicious burgers. They were mammoth, and the toppings were excellent and fresh. The pomme frites were a naughty, but delicious, side-dish and everyone was more than happy with their choices. Amberg is a wonderful little city, and Cafe Zentral would make an excellent stopping point while wandering about! read more

Good little stop for lunch. Nothing that blew us away, but hit the spot. We both got the Zentral Burger, which was good with cheese/bacon/sauce toppings and a sesame seed "bun," but the meat was a little underwhelming (and very well done). The meat was supposedly house ground beef, so I expected a wee bit more. Drinks were good and a decent price. Good selection too on various categories. Service was meh, even by German standards. Not horrible, but they weren't falling over themselves to serve us- maybe because they were busy? They were all very polite though! Overall, I'd come back and see what else they have to offer. read more

Cafe Zentral is one of my favorite places in Amberg. I've been there 4-5 times and every meal I've had has been delicious. Seating is plentiful, and outdoor seating is available in good weather. The wait staff is good and friendly. Breakfast is my favorite meal to have there (I've had it at 8pm there too). The Peasant's Breakfast is easily my favorite. The Zentral Burger is also super good (fries are legit too). Make sure you have cash as I don't think they can take cards. read more

Best spot in town on a sunny day for breakfast, lunch or dinner in Amberg! The waitstaff is very friendly, fast and professional. The food is delicious-have eaten there multiple times and my favorite is their breakfast...it's delicious and the menu has a good amount of variety as well. read more
