    Browning slimy lettuce
    Shawna M.

I decided to stop by and pick up dinner on my way home from work. The one other time I was here I spent over $20.00 and it wasn't the best but I thought I would give it another chance. Spent about the same but asked for an additional teriyaki sauce with my teriyaki chicken bowl. I later realized I was charged for 4 sauces and asked when I picked up my order why, but got a shoulder shrug and the lady walked away. Like many of the other reviews, the chicken was thin and dry and not worth it. The salad was slimy and browning. The customer service was meh. The food was mostly disappointing. I had the pot stickers too and they were pretty good but they almost tasted frozen. Bummer. I wanted to like this place.

A rather scaly experience. Food was good - straightforward, nothing special. There was nobody here at 4:00 PM on a Friday. The restaurant itself is rather forbidding. Plexiglass over the cash register, like a hold up is in the offing. Rather strange. Dirty dishes in the busing station and no towels in the restroom. Fantastically unfriendly - or should I say dismissive - staff. But I was ready to be alone and the food filled me up. I guess that's the best I can say of the experience. Maybe at lunchtime it starts hopping. A definite take-out spot, not somewhere I'd go to dine-in.

    Chicken Breast Teriyaki

We used to go to this place years ago so decided to pick up dinner since I was nearby. Ordered 2 teriyaki chicken breast meals (T2) and had to order a side of vegetables (the typical veggies that other places usually provide - cabbage, carrots, broccoli) as this meal doesn't come with any. Spent $30.00 for very dried chicken (doesn't matter how much they give you, dried chicken is still dried chicken), not enough Teriyaki sauce as you only get 1 little plastic cup with your meal (but you can buy additinal little plastic cups of the sauce for 50 cents each - which we did not do), lettuce in the salad you have to pick through and remove the yucky pieces. I do really like the taste of the dressing but they never give you enough in my opinion. But hey, you can buy more. We personally will not be dining at this restaurant again.

I used to go here quite often about 6 years ago it was a family favorite food was always great, now the quality is horrible I took a few bites and couldn't continue it was overly sweet and it was out less than 10 minutes after ordering and it was a pretty good indication that it was reheated which is what it tasted like everything was just thrown on plate and sauce thrown on top the lettuce in the salad was old and the chicken was hard as if it had been cooked previously. I would not recommend this place the inside of the building is bad as well it's years are really showing it's quite dirty inside too and the bathroom felt as if I was in a gas station not a restaurant.

1/8/2020 - Chicken teriyaki with gyoza.
    Mikhail H.

I was not very impressed. I got chicken teriyaki with gyoza and the gyoza had that microwave chicken funk flavor to a piece or two of it. It was too bad too since it came with a salad (which was actually pretty ok for being iceberg lettuce) and a decent serving of the main with gyoza and a drink for just over $10. Great price but I cannot forgive chicken with that taste.

Sweet couple running this place! They are so kind and their food is delicious. Great price!

The replacement of Yaki Day and I am still glad the food is good. The prices seem a bit high in some cases but overall decent fare. The standard teriyaki chicken with white rice and salad is $5.99. Ask for brown rice and it's only .50 cents more. Ask for white only chicken and the price goes up a bit. The spicy chicken (T8) is so far my fave. A bit heavy on the oil, but the flavor is good....just enough spice, and yummy veggies cooked in with it. Another surprise at Zen is that they also have other offerings like General Tso's, Brocolli Beef, Kung Pao Chicken, etc. The yakosoba and Ramen looked quite good as well. I will certainly be a regular here!

    Tofu Teri-yucky

The only thing "zen" was after I calmed down from wasting $30 on food we each took a bite of and left. GROSS. My chicken teriyaki consisted of a super thin piece of dried out, overcooked chicken with a bit of store bought sauce drizzled on top. My girlfriend's tofu teriyaki was chunks of tofu, deep fried in stale oil and drizzled with the same store bought sauce (photos showed tofu with tons of mixed veggies). The "salad" was a few shreds of iceberg lettuce and a some shaved carrots.

The owner is a (I think) a Japanese fellow and I believe everyone who works here is family. There's often a young girl at the counter who I suppose is his grand daughter. She is very sweet and very bubbly. You walk in and get a big smile and an enthusiastic hello. I only go now an then but she treats me like I am a regular she sees every day. I go up to the counter and she knows what I order... always chicken teriyaki. I don't have to say a thing. She rings me up and a few minutes later I have a hot, tasty meal in front of me. There are a few "rice bowl" type businesses in Cedar Mill and they are all good. But Kokos is the best! I'd encourage my fellow Yelpers to check them out if they haven't already. The prices are very fair especially for what you get. A filling, tasty, healthy meal. I don't know if they do this for everyone but the owner is always there and sometimes works the counter. He gives me the veterans discount which knocks a little off the usual, already low price. Plus I get double the meat so now it's a very inexpensive lunch in a container that is just packed with food. Hence the reason for this review refresh. I don't think they make much of a profit and being in the mall I'm sure their overhead is high. The folks there work very hard and likely don't get paid much. Dunno if they are native Americans or immigrants but they are living the American dream. I'm sure one day all that hard work will pay off and they will be very successful. But given how nice they are to me I'm sure they lose money every time I show up for lunch. So I very much appreciate their kindness and generosity. They don't make much money but they generate a lot of goodwill.... wanted to pay it forward in some small way by posting this glowing and well deserved five star review. I hope Kokos will be here for a long time. It's one of the few restaurants I can still afford to patronize. A nice meal that someone else cooks for me has become a rare treat in my life. So THANKS!

A Ramen Masterclass in Beaverton! If you are looking for…read morethat perfect, soul-warming bowl of noodles, Koku Ramen & Bites in Beaverton is an absolute gem. It's located in the Timberland Town Center and manages to perfectly balance a modern, trendy vibe with authentic, traditional flavors. Here is why it's a 5-star standout for me: The Broth (The Soul of the Bowl): I ordered the Tonkotsu Ramen, and the broth was incredible--creamy, rich, and clearly simmered for hours. It has that deep, milky consistency that only comes from true craft. If you like heat, the Spicy Miso has a perfect, layered kick that doesn't just overpower your taste buds. The Noodles: They get the texture exactly right. You can choose your firmness, and they have that perfect "chew" that holds onto the broth beautifully. The "Bites": True to their name, the appetizers (bites) are not to be skipped. The Pork Gyoza are perfectly seared, but the Karaage (Japanese Fried Chicken) is the real winner--juicy on the inside and impossibly crunchy on the outside. The Chashu: The braised pork belly is melt-in-your-mouth tender. They give it a quick torch sear before serving, which adds a beautiful smoky aroma to the whole bowl. The Vibe: The restaurant is clean, sleek, and has a great energy. The staff is welcoming and incredibly fast, making it a perfect spot for a quick lunch or a cozy dinner. Pro Tip: Don't forget to add a Marinated Soft-Boiled Egg (Ajitama). They cook them to perfection here with that jammy, custard-like yolk that takes the ramen to the next level. Beaverton has a lot of food options, but Koku is easily at the top of my list for comfort food. I'll be back again and again!
