Dr. Tyner is an excellent and caring dentist. His "bedside manners" are great and he explains everything in an uncomplicated way, so his patients understand the procedure. The ladies at the front desk are always efficient and friendly. Everytime I visit the office they always have a smile. One of the technicians, Irene, cleaned by teeth. She was thorough and pleasant. From my conversation with her, I could tell that she was very qualified and educated. I was impressed with the fact that she speaks four languages! I've been going to Dr Tyner's office for almost 10 years now. I live out in Long Beach and after 2 horrid experiences with dentists out there trying to convince me to get work done that was NOT NEEDED, I decided to make the drive back to Dr Tyner and his team. Irena is amazing as a hygienist! She doesn't waste time, does an amazing job, and is very friendly. Since starting there 10 years ago, I've seen new staff join the practice and all are great. Terrible experience. After asking several times the coverage and billing for each treatment. I came in and they conveniently made a mistake on coverage and asked me to pay out of pocket for the visit. The woman at the front desk ask me for the names of the folks that explained I was covered and asked me for the solution to the problem. Two things she should have quickly acted on and used some level of problem solving skills. The lack of disregard for the mistake and then saying that it wasn't that much more money which I found to be insensitive. The office is a mess and the practice is in a residential building and wonder if that practice is up to code. read more

I have been a loyal client to this office for over 18 years. With my husband and three kids, we've been here with no big issues in the past. A week ago, I was extremely busy with work, I asked my parents to bring all three of my kids to their appointments.. come to learn they Michael Tyner DDS/Zen dentistry, cancelled all three appointments without a notice saying they have new policy (one I never got notice of).. saying I failed to confirm my appointments.. appointments that I made over six months ago. Then.. I called the office and LAURIE the manager, started mocking the situation as if it was funny, after I tried to make a complaint against her and the company for their lack of professionalism. .. and she was laughing over the phone at this situation. I would NEVER EVER RECOMMEND ANYONE TO THIS BUSINESS. And I report them to BBB. They are trash. I wouldn't even give them a star but I will to let ever see my message.. read more

CHECK HIS REVIEWERS CAREFULLY! Many of his reviews seem like paid reviews from people who only give 5-star reviews. About 12 years ago, I found Dr. Tyner on the internet and made an appointment. At the time I had great dental insurance and he and his office loved it. I would say they played on every single insecurity I have on my smile and this led to many, many more visits. He convinced me to change (at the time) pretty good fillings and whiten my teeth. It's been many years and I am still in the process of repairing the damage that he inflicted on me. He will treat you like a payday and will perform unnecessary procedures just to line his pockets. He will act like he cares, but he only cares about your insurance. He uses tactics to act like he remembers you--- by first looking at your chart while you are waiting and then calling you by name and waving while you're sitting among other patients in the waiting room. Personally, I think Dr. Tyner is sick. And he has grown a staff of sick people. It is appalling that after all these years, I am still traumatized by Dr. Tyner and his workers. So much so, that I feel compelled to write about the terrible experiences years later. I never cared for Dr. Tyner's subtle, but racist jokes about his clients. Ultimately, it was Dr. Tyner's disgusting sense of humor and callous disregard of black and brown people that opened my eyes to his mind games. If you happen to be a senior, and have dental insurance through a Medicare Advantage Plan, expect to be treated like a 2nd class citizen, even though they supposedly are in your network. They would rather just say they don't take your insurance, than take you on as a new patient, and have to submit reimbursement forms. When I finally got an appt., after getting my insurance company to call them, I had to call to re-schedule, and they said that they couldn't give me another appt. for X-rays and a cleaning, for 2 months. They claim that appointments with their dental hygienist are booked months in advance. I call B.S.! Can't wait for Single Payer system, so these guys will be obligated to treat us. read more

Awful experience. Dr Tyner performed a procedure on me. I went home, the anesthetic wore off and I was in excruciating pain! Called the doctor but was told nothing could really be done; I asked for a pain killer prescription but he said that wasn't possible because he "doesn't have a license to write prescriptions"!! I really felt, at that moment, that Dr Tyner is a crackpot. After several emergency visits and three weeks later the pain got better. I never went back to Dr Tyner and I absolutely would not recommend him to anyone. read more

I just started going to Dr. Tyner and overall I'm super pleased. The very first time I went I got crazy lost in the building so just make sure you give yourself enough time if you are not familiar. The staff and Dr. Tyner are very professional. During my cavity filling Dr. Tyner explained what he was doing every step of the way and how far we were in the process. It helps calm the nerves for ppl that hate the dentist, like myself. Another great thing about them is that they are punctual. You don't find yourself waiting in the waiting room way past why your appointment time. Best dental team EVER!!! The team always welcomes you with a smile (pun intended)! They listen to your needs and try their best to work with you. The hygienists are so thorough - Awesome preventive work! Dr. Tyner is an expert at his craft. He quickly assess the situation and knows exactly what to do, and he does it well. I recently had a chip on my front tooth fixed. I've had a gap between my two front teeth all my life. At the initial visit we agreed to closed it (it looks better), but habits and feelings are a whole other thing. I tried to adjust for a week, but just couldn't. At today's visit I asked Dr. Tyner to slightly open it and without any hesitation he did, just so that I can feel better. "Happy", he asks? ABSOLUTELY! I had to take my mom to Dr Tyner with bad tooth pain that required root canal. I called 1-800-dentist and they suggested his office. His front desk found time to book my mom quickly because I told them about the pain. Dr Tyner took his time and got rid of the pain in the first visit and told us to come back to finish it as it required more time. Second visit, he did a beautiful job with her canal. Showed me everything he did for her. He also called us after the first visit to ask how is mom doing which was very nice. I decided to come back myself for cleaning couple months after my mom's visit. Dr Tyner's hygienist did a good job and answered all my questions i had for her. Then Dr Tyner checked my teeth to make sure everything went well and he still remembered me from the time I came with mom even though I wasn't a patient. It's nice office. I had not seen a dentist for almost 18 years before spring of 2010 when I started feeling stabbing pain in my gums. As an emergency I saw a dentist my primary doctor recommended. That dentist retraumatized me and gave me the push I needed to research for a dentist that can work well with people like me who suffer with anxiety and depression. I found Tyner through 1800Dentist and even then googled his name to see if I could find any reviews. I found enough that made me feel comfortable to want to try him out and it was so worth it. Dr. Tyner is a personable professional. He was compassionate when I explained my anxiety and fears and previous experiences. He promised to respect my pain threshold and gave me additional anesthesia as I have a very low threshold for pain. He explained what he was going to do in my mouth before he did it. He answered the questions I had patiently and quite thoroughly. His dental hygienist, Janice, is also very calm and has a calming effect. She was soothing and gentle and very gracious. :) She even saw my son during my appt and was able to coax him into the chair. Unfortunately, he himself was traumatized by a "pediatric" dentist in Flushing who had little patience for his anxiety. He was 2 at the time. Now he's 4 and he still remembered "the dentist". Fortunately, Janice was patient and worked her magic. She got him in the chair in less than 10 min. gave him a cleaning and he left having made a new best friend and without the fear of "the dentist". I shall be forever grateful. :) read more

I would give the hygienist a higher star rating, but for Dr Tyner himself? Here's what you should know: I had a number of crowns done by him. But since going to him I had my teeth examined by NYU dentistry a couple years later and all of the top professors there concurred that his work was "horrible". They explained that there were "open margins" near the gum line, and said it's like the caps were fitting like a loose hat, so that bacteria can easily get underneath the gums and cause tooth decay. If you just need a few fillings, he's decent with that but be aware that you need to tell him if you want white fillings. He prefers to use silver (probably because it's an easier job). And he put a silver filling on one of my bottom pre-molars that is pretty visible. Dr Tyner overall seems motivated by quantity, rushing people in and out. He was always proud of his work with the crowns and I didn't know any better. Sure they looked cosmetically appealing from the outside, but leaving the open margins was negligent on his part. I'm terrified of the dentist due to a bad childhood experience. When I called my neighborhood dentist for an emergency appointment he had me come in 2 days later, took an x-ray and told me I needed to see A specialist for a root canal and his receptionist would call me tomorrow and let me know where I needed to go. Really? When she called the next evening she gave me a number for an Endodontists. When I called the next morning to make an appointment I was told that I couldn't be seen until the next week. Needless to say if I'm in pain I can't wait until the following week. I then called 1-800-Dentist and was referred to my new favorite dentist Dr Tyner! I got an appointment the next day after emailing in my x-ray. Dr Tyner was patient and easy to talk to he listened to me express my fears and explained that I was in good hands. Dr. Tyner is clearly honest and trustworthy which is extremely important in choosing any medical professional. I have had many problems and sat in many dentist chairs but Dr. Tyner is easily the best. His examinations are extensive. He carefully explains what needs to be done and why then lays out all options available clearly and answers all questions. My family has been going to Dr. Tyner for a year or so and we love him. His staff is super nice, professional. The dental hygienists always with a smiles and take their time. Recently, my 18 month old daughter knocked out her tooth and I was frantic. We took her to urgent care and they couldn't do anything. Her tooth was hanging by a tread.. And they sent me to the ER or a dentist. On a whim, I called the office. They could of told me they were too busy, they don't see toddlers, they never saw her before or just no. No, they told me to come in even though they were all booked up. Dr. Tyner saw her in 5 minutes, removed the tooth and reassured me that she will be ok. I was a faithful patient of Dr. Tyner's since the mid 90's. He used to be a dentist who cared about the quality of the patient's care, not the quantity of visits or money he received. Unfortunately, I have observed over the years that he has gone this route. Oh sure, he'll put on a short friendly act when you walk in but as soon as there is any question about his work or prices, he quickly goes into the salesman mode and snap at you. His ego and greed has gotten the best of him. This was even more apparent when I lost my job. I always paid full price on my co-payments without any delay when I had insurance but as soon as I lost my insurance he did not express any interest in trying to work with me. Even though I paid as I went (and I paid him thousands!), he refused to take off more than $100. at the end when I was struggling with an $800. bill. Most places consider "financial hardship" for the patient out of courtesy. Not Dr. Tyner. Unless you have a ton of money to spend and don't mind a half-assed job, DO NOT go to Dr. Tyner. Even one of the caps he replaced for me is not a tight fit and is always hard to clean, therefore gets irritated often. Did he fix it? No. He (like any good salesman) will fluff off any concerns you have as if it's in your head. Even the hygienist there (which I will not name which one) confirmed that the gap in between the caps could be a problem. In my years going there, I have also seen the desk staff rotate often (never a good sign) and one of his most loyal receptionists confided in me that she was having problems working for him. On the outside, he seems like a great dentist if you only have routine work done very infrequently. Other than that, please take my advice and don't trust his superficial charm. He is a wolf in sheep's clothing. A mediocre dentist and a degrading person. read more
