Reviews here are heavily dependent on what you order, and I'm happy with what I ordered. I had a chance to try the camarones a la diabla, and while they were solid for me, I don't know I'd give it a 5 stars based on that. What I actually ordered, the Zazon Especial, was good. I enjoyed the entire thing. It came with a salad, frijoles, arroz, y tortillas. I have a guess that the tortillas weren't homemade there, but that's just something to note. The actual proteins were good! A combination of meats and shrimp, it came out sizzling on an individual pan. It sounded, looked, and smelled amazing as it was brought to the table. It was a nice surprise, as I didn't expect it to be served in that fashion. The bites of the proteins were good, and there was some cheese in there too. At the bottom of the pan were a couple of tortillas, and despite being some of the later bites, they were delicious. They had absorbed the flavors of everything on top, and I enjoyed it. I'd definitely come back. But I'll be sure what to order next time, if not the Especial. During the weekends they have live music. At the time we came, it was norteño. I wanted to like this place but my first time there wasnt too spectacular for my dish. I love camarones a la diabla, it's my go to order but the camarones were too overcooked that it took over the flavor of the sauce. Unfortunately the arroz seemed to be undercooked, which also was a downer. I tried the zazon especial and that was good, and full of flavor. It had chicken, beef, and camarones mixed in with cheese. They also do have live music on the weekends. On Sunday they had a grupo norteño that went around asking if people had requests. They had live music which made the environment fun but the food was okay at best. The enchiladas needed much more sauce. They came out fairly dry and I prefer my enchiladas saucy. It's once if my favorite foods so I was not too satisfied with the quality of them. The shrimp cocktail tasted average but the shrimp was not cooked and came out grey. Zazon Del Mar!!!! I drive by this place all the time and I had the audacity to not try it until now. This had one of the best lengua burritos I've ever had. I didn't even take a picture because I was so blown away by how good it was. The lengua was so soft and tender, mmmm I am craving it just thinking about it. The tacos fundido was also a hit, these were probably also some of the best shrimp tacos I've ever had. I loved all the toppings and sauces on the tacos. I need to come back to Zazon to try more things because I am obsessed. I need that lengua burrito in my life again. I got the Al Pastor Tacos Fundido and Al Pastor Burrito. I even ordered a Horchata to drink with my meal. The service was quick and the waitress was friendly. The tacos were very delicious. I loved the melted cheese and sour cream as toppings for my tacos. The Burrito was large and very filling. I had to bring half of it home as leftovers because I couldn't finish it. I've been here twice now and I love it! The restaurant has plenty of seating, easy parking, and fast & friendly service. They also have live music (when I came on a Saturday evening)! I also really appreciate the free chips & salsa bar they have :) The second time I came with a party of 15 and they were extremely accommodating. I didn't make a reservation and there was plenty of seating available. It was a lot of people but they helped serve us well! Everyone was very happy with their food. We really like this place, especially because it is close to our house. We live in South Sac and not much to choose from so we either cook at home or go into town for good food but when we want Mexican, Zazons is where it is at! The shrimp tacos are just amazing! Everything is. Service is friendly, even to gringos :) they have lunch specials, to go and huge dine in area. So reasonable too! It shocks me that this place has so many good reviews. I WANT to like it since I live two blocks away, but both times I've ordered here have been absolute fails. The first time I ordered a carne asada super buritto. The steak was tough and dry, like it had been made the day before, and the burrito was 75% rice and beans. Zero flavor. I ate it because I was starving. Tonight I went back and called my order in: regular chicken burrito, cheese and pico de gallo only. I got home, added some sour cream, and my first bite had a giant piece of pure gristle. It was also full to the brim with rice and beans and had no cheese. I took four more bites and two more pieces of gristle were spit out. I walked back over to the restaurant with the remaining burrito and told them it was inedible. Walked out with a refund. SMH. How hard is it to grill fresh steak and chicken to order? So disappointing. read more

Today was my 4th time here and I'm convinced they shouldn't be a seafood spot. The aguachiles where a joke. Si necesitan a alguien para que se los aga como deben hacer me dicen less enseño de agritis. The shrimp where thrown on the plate raw then drenched in the juice onions and cucumbers. The shrimp was raw which isn't to abnormal but the fact the shrimp was warmer than the lime juice means they where just laying out in room temp which besides dangerous to your clients it's gross and they get a different flavor. They don't clean the veins out right in there shrimp which is where they process their food which means where eating their feces. Yeah I clean all mine up. Aguachiles is a delequise and should be treated as such especially at 22 for the amount they give .The best part of the aguachiles was the onion and cucumber unfortunately. I've tried their fish and shrimp tacos before they're also mid. Tacos and burritos are ok here and would probably be the only thing I'll get again. Very chill Mexican restaurant. You can hear the mariachi music blasting. Great entertainment while you enjoy some food or drinks. The menu has a wide variety of items like tacos, burritos, quesadillas, tortas and combo plates. There's a nice salsa bar and free chips with dip with a minimum $5 purchase. I tried their botana de cerveza marisquera which is simply beer and seafood. Me and my friend decided to get modelos as our choice of beer. Definitely shareable and meant for two or more people. I've tried this before at a different restaurant and enjoyed it so I knew I would like it here too. Comes with crackers as well to scoop up the seafood. From the outside it might not look like it but they could some delicious food at this place. The tacos de barbacoa melt into your mouth with the red sauce they give you. The platter was huge but i wished the carne Asada had more flavor to it. They also have an open chips and salsa bar which was nice. The meats have plenty of flavor, good texture, and are quality rather than fatty grizzle. The couple of seafood items I've tasted seemed fresh and well prepared. Great chips and salsa start things off right. If you get tacos you notice the tortillas hold up and have nice little toast on them. All the meats I've tried have been great. ive barbacoa or lengua a whirl. If you like citrus, shrimp, and serrano heat try the aguachile here. That's pretty much all there is to it. You get a hearty amount of large, fresh tasting shrimp in a lime, cilantro, and serrano puree. Think ceviche's much hotter primo. It's worth noting live (mariachi) band karaoke is on Sunday as astute Yelper Jacqueline W already noted. Maybe without words on a screen it's not technically karaoke, but you can sing with the band backing you. Mexicans just know these songs though, so no teleprompter needed. My grandpa would be right up there singing. You should know about this if you plan on wandering in on a Sunday afternoon. It's LOUD. I mean, there is a guy blowing trumpet indoors. They do a great job. It's very cool, just LOUD. Finally, I've gotten great service here. Sometimes you order at the counter and they take it to you. Other times, curiously, they tell you to have a seat and they promptly wait on you. Either way, it's been great. Usually there are a couple of English speakers working. Zazon is legit. This place is pretty freaking awesome. They have a nice little salsa bar. I love the fire roasted salsa. Delicious! I walked into this place and really wanted the taco salad this woman was eating. It's in a huge taco shell. I liked the al pastor but it was a little on the dry side. The shell wasn't ideal, but it was ok. It wasn't crunchy, but actually crispy and a tad oily, which I didn't really care for. But I still enjoyed it because it was good with everything else. The horchata was actually pretty good, but very different from regular horchata. It was much more spicy then normal horchata in a good way. Not spicy as in burn your booty hot, but spicy as in there are spices in the drink. :) My bf got the nachos with lengua. I don't know why he wanted tongue, but I don't care much for tongue. It wasn't actually too bad though. It was pretty darn tasty for something that was supposedly tongue. This place is pretty darn good. I will be back to try more. First thing was a dead bug in the chip so we showed the waitress and asked if she could put in a new batch, as we said we didn't want to cause any problems, because a group of people walked in as we told her. She had never changed the chips out. Having 5 kids ordering KIDS meal burgers they brought out 5 ADULT burgers and charged me for their mess up. If you like good tacos, you have to come here and try the tacos de Barbacoa, one of the restaurant specialties. These tacos are not your regular tortilla and meat type tacos. The tortillas are seared in oil, giving them a crunchy texture with wonderfully flavored meat and grilled onions. I ordered 3, but 2 would have been suffice as they are large and have plenty of meat. We also tried the ceviche, which was good, but I would have preferred the marinade to be made of pure lime vs tomato based sauce. The horchata was authentic and delicious.
