First things first. It's our first visit to Poland and there's no downsides of note…read more I say so as we found only a few folk rude, surprisingly in a kebab joint and a cafe in Sopot - the so called hospitality industry - but that's likely cultural as often we are polite through gritted teeth ourselves, so hypocrisy recognised Sopot is a real gem of a place and a good base to tour this part of Poland. We visited Gdańsk and Gdynia too. The train station is under 10 minutes uphill walk from Sedan. We chose Sopot as it's a sea side place and it was the end of the summer season. The Sedan hotel is quaint. It is also genuinely charming. Charming also describes all the staff we met on our 7 nights here. It wasn't a long enough stay really. You do need a level of physical fitness for this hotel as there are steps into it, there isn't a lift and staircase is quite steep. We were fortunate on arrival that the chap who checked us in, very quickly, also took our cases to the 1st floor also very quickly. Breakfast food here is first class, especially as I'm a fish lover. There's herrings & mackerel on offer daily with cress and tangy pickles. My wife isn't a lover of such briny, vinegary things but there's lots for her to enjoy including scrambled eggs, ham, cheeses, jams, yoghurts, cakes and pancakes. They bake their own breads too but their white loaf wasn't to our taste as it's dry, open textured and coarse but that's personal taste. We observed plenty of guests eating copious amounts of it with butter so We're in the minority here - story of our lives too. The breakfast coffee machine has an umbilical milk tube feeding into it for cappuccino, it also offers espresso and black coffee as it wheezes, grinds and then eventually splutters out good coffee; if it were a human the sounds it makes at work would easily burn off hundreds of calories. It kept breaking down and it was retired on our second last day. Our 1st floor room had two cosy single beds. It was a small room with a separate shower room with a shower that's even smaller than on Norwegian cruise ships. If you are thin you should be ok. I'm not. Still we managed just fine but there is a caution here as the temperature on the shower is finely set - a slight twist of the handle either way and it's quickly scalding or cold. So beware you don't accidentally knock against it; it's not a mistake you are likely to make twice. The prevailing noise outside our room was seagulls crying with the odd crow caw. There's in-room coffee & tea but no milk and tv and air con we didn't use. The hotel offers 2 course lunches at 35 pz a person. We did try to get lunch but the day we did they only had chicken as they were waiting on a delivery so that was that. The hotel also houses a Thai massage parlour (see photo) with a separate entrance so it was our first port of call day 1 but they don't offer traditional Thai massages. We found this strange so we went elsewhere 5 minutes walk away. So we really enjoyed a great stay and it's a 5 star place all the way.

For the criminals and at the same time lovers of dry wines I recommend mulled wine based on white dry wine. Fish soup - a masterpiece very tasty and nutritious, rich in seafood and a solid piece of salmon. Big plus! I recommend and see you at your next visit to Sopot!

First of all the decor is perfect, it emits an elegant upscale beach nautical theme in a laid back relaxing way. The food is absolutely phenomenal! We order 1. Charred octopus - perfectly cooked, tender and juicy 2. Beef carpaccio with shaved truffles - fantastic thinness, great amount of shaved truffles on top. 3. Warm goat cheese salad with figs - the goat cheese was delicious, baked in a flaky dough and the figs as well as the strawberries were great compliments to the dish. 4. Pear and Gorgonzola pizza - my husband who never ever eats Gorgonzola loved this pizza. The crust was thin and delicious and the pizza was fantastic overall. 5. Strawberry meringue cake - absolutely marvelous! It was so light and refreshing, perfect for summer. 6. Panna cotta - also marvelous! The acidity of the passion fruit and creaminess of the panna cotta went along great! Also if you have children this place is fantastic because they have a private section of the beach enclosed with a playground, so while you wait for food you kids can play! We'll definitely come back when we're in the area!

Stacja Sopot is located in an old Villa next to the main station and is renovated in the typical modern/vintage style you usually find in hipster places in Warsaw. Staff is young, international and super friendly. After a longer bike tour as expected and a rain shower we got into, they were super friendly, helping o try us and getting the bikes, especially saddles dry afterwards. The food is fresh and modern interpreted. When it came to orders they were very helpfull and flexible giving recommendations, sizing the dishes up from starter to main dishes or changing the sides. I had a smoked beef tatare which was really good and got a slight but not too dominant smoky flavour. For main dish we had sprotki, the polish type of small sardines, deep fried with salty flakes, very very tasty. For desert we got a sernik, polish chees cake with fresh berries on top too share. All in all a very tasty meal in a friendly, casual and relaxed atmosphere.

This comfortable and friendly place blends European standards with Asian flavors. All of us, from…read morevegans to carnivores, enjoyed our meals. The chef here knows flavors well and is not afraid to be bold with big flavors, never going overboard. Case in point: the duck broth with udon, pickled ginger and pickled radishes. The broth, very rich and reminiscent of pho, was complemented nicely by the tang and heat of pickled sushi ginger-- very satisfying on a cold seaside day. Another standout was the hot lemonade which turned out to be a hot, fresh citrus tea with cloves, star anise, rosemary, and cinnamon. This was good both with and without a shot of rum. The non-vegetarian main dishes equally feature deftly cooked vegetables next to their meat counterparts. It was fun to pick through the shrimp, chorizo and pan fried vegetables getting different combinations of carrots, celery root, beets, and parsley root with the sausage and shrimp. This plate was deceptively filling. Stacja Sopot is a must if you like big flavors, interesting combinations and fair prices.
