I'll be honest, we walked out of the coffee shop the first time, mainly because the staff behind the counter were busy chatting to friends then not really interested in serving us. Plus, the only breakfasty type options were croissants or bacon rolls - and as a non-meat eater, I didn't fancy a croissant. In fact, if I wanted to rant a wee bit, North Berwick seems to still be in the meat-eating ages - listen up people, bacon is not the only option for breakfast! Sheesh.
However, the Silent Reviewer had visited this cafe in the past, and had his eyes firmly glued on cake, so after finding brekkie, we returned for dessert. We took away a raspberry and almond tart, and a raspberry and cream cake. The SR found the cake prettier to look at than to eat, but I did enjoy (if a little rich and coma-inducing) the heather honey, cream and raspberry cake, layered with infused sponge (coffee like, perhaps, nout sure but tasty nonetheless).
Also, for our takeaway order, my cream cake came on half a plate and a fork. I thought that was a rather nice touch. So it's an alright sort of place, and I think if you were a regular you would probably be more warmly welcomed than a stranger at the door. read more
