They also have a few bakery items, including a vegan banana bread that is DELICIOUS (one of the best I've ever had). It's a thick, moist slab loaded with nuts and dried cranberries maybe? There's just something "more" to it that makes it special. I recently bought beans (flavor notes of "jammy" and "honey"; it's SO GOOD), and it seems like I can reuse the canister for a discounted refill the next time I'm here! We came to North Berwick from Edinburgh for the day via a very easy 30 min train ride. Steampunk is located in the back of a building on the main street of North Berwick. It is sparsely decorated but the theme seems to be related to bicycles. We stopped in for midday iced lattes and a snack. The lattes were good and I appreciate their to go cups and straws are all paper based. The granola bar we grabbed did not impress me at face value but wow was it delicious. Like chewy granola with some cinnamon added in. It was the perfect sweet pairing to the latte. There is plenty of indoor and outdoor seating here.

The cafe's owner, however, opened on the dot of 10 when she saw two hungry day trippers loitering in the High Street; we'd actually been exploring North Berwick for about two and a half hours by then, so breakfast was something to look forward to. Disuaded from toast and jam by the knowledge I would probably smell The Beloved's bacon roll and wish I'd had that....we got two coffees and two bacon rolls. And it's worth the drive. No re-heated bacon here! Soft fresh rolls, tasty bacon (I still can't figure out how she cooked it that was different from normal!) and good mellow tasting but strong coffee. And all insanely cheap! Service was excellent, the shop section was cute and added a cosy, sweet, "tea at your gran's" sort of atmosphere, food was not haute cuisine (but who's looking for that first thing in the morning after beach combing?!) and the rhubarb sponge looked amazing. Possibly the fact they were also doing a scone and cuppa special helped lure us in too, can't remember exactly what it cost, but I'm sure it was a bargain £2.50 pp. Warmed scones with jam and clotted cream, served up with coffee or tea and I'm positive we got free re-fills of tea and coffee! All this combined with an hour or so of gossip - perfect!

It is evidently popular, as we arrived just after opening time and the place was almost full, The menu is a little limited, with just a couple of artisan-style coffees on offer, as well as tea and hot chocolate. There is also a small breakfast/lunch menu available too. I had the French toast and it was pretty good, but a little dry, and was more simply "toast" as it lacked powdered sugar and syrup like French toast typically has. To drink I had a latte which was what you would expect for this sort of establishment in terms of quality and taste. I liked the whole concept and style of the cafe with the aesthetic of it being built into old shipping containers, but I don't feel like it really lived up to the good reports I'd heard from family and friends. It is a good coffee shop, but it wasn't really what I was expecting, and I wouldn't really say it's worth trekking all the way out just to go to when there are perfectly good cafes within North Berwick itself such as Steampunk.

I'm not really a fan of the design of the place. It is high-ceilinged, wooden-floored and is very popular with parents, who bring their little toddlers in here to scream and play. There is even a designated kids corner which is a bit of a nuisance when toddlers are banging Lego bricks against the hard wooden floor and you are trying to enjoy your drink. The two waitresses were attentive and friendly but they were very young and seemed a bit inexperienced. With the huge queue that was forming, this was not ideal. The toilets needed a bit of attention as the paper towel bin was overflowing, leaving some spilling out onto the floor. I think I will stick to Steampunk in the future. I can rely on it's homemade lemonade, carrot cake and clean toilets.

It is part of a larger estate with a massive Manor House that can be hired for pleasure, luxury cottages and a world famous links course. The walled garden cafe is part of a modern building on the estate. It's very clean and the interior comfortable and modern. The toilet are clean and large with big mirrors. You can get food all day. It's particularly popular with families over the weekend around lunch time. They children and use the fantastic playground just outside the building. The delicatessen shop is selling high quality products of various ranges, like food, drinks, gifts, meat, fish etc. In the walled garden itself you can find herbs and plants of all sorts. In December they do have a fairy trail planned , a light show for the whole family. Enjoy!

Lovely picturesque village. This is one of my Mum's favourite indulgement establishments! I love the Gift shop as it's chic and lots of things to pick and go ohhh! and AHHHH! at!! Cakes are all made by the owner and all fresh! Soups also are delightful on a cold winter's day. French presses come in mild, medium or strong and i always go for strong - keeps me buzzing until i get home! The cafe also do sandwiches and other edibles.
