Fresh Coconut Water
Amanda F.

My boyfriend and I came here on a rainy Monday evening for a bite to eat. I love that the menu was labeled gluten free and vegan. It was helpful with making choices for me as I'm dairy free and gluten free. I settled on the vindaloo with shrimp. I got extra spicy and it was flavorful with a little kick at the end. However, to me, it was not that spicy. The coconut water was good but overpriced in my opinion. Staffing was lacking a little bit here and we weren't checked after our meal was bought to us. We had to ask for our check. Overall decent Indian food with smaller portions. We would be back again.

Spinach Cheese Naan

I ordered pick up and selected curbside delivery option. I did not see any signage so ended up just going inside quickly and watched my car. Food was ready when I arrived as scheduled. Well packaged. The spinach cheese naan is delicious. I got the paneer biryani which was good as well - I am not a spice person and I got mild and was still a bit too spicy for me. I ordered mango chutney but I did not get this one or at least I think mine was different. For en entire entree, I would get a few chutneys to share as the chutney container sizes for pick up are not super big. Excited to go back and try different things.

My family had dinner tonight. The food was good, but the service was terrible. The staff brought the food to the table, and she didn't say anything. We will never come back. Not friendly, which is sad.

Finally checked out this place for takeout for dinner and was pleasantly surprised!! To me it had a bit of a casual feel from the outside BUT the flavors and seasonings really came through and made me feel like someone in the kitchen is a magical spice master! Top recs for the tikka masala, the lamb in the saagwala was SUPER tender, and the cheesy garlic naan was soo good!! Also this was my first time trying chicken biryani--seasonings were excellent and the dish was fun and colorful! For me it was a bit dry but this could be because it was takeout.

It was very busy on a Thursday night! The server said that was not a normal experience and even the weekends can be quiet. This place deserves some love. The food is so delicious and the portions are large, I ate this over 2-3 meals. The tikka masala was medium but not that spicy. The biryani was more spicy at mild. There is a good amount of seating and it was cozy to have this warming meal on a cool windy day.

Picked this restaurant at random. It happened to be what was close by when I felt hungry. Nice ambiance inside and comfortable booth. Beer was good. Biryani was good. Not my favorite Raita. But overall a good meal. Service was a bit slow.

I would rate this place a 4.5/5. While I enjoyed the food and experience, I may be a bit biased and say that I'm spoiled by such delicious Indian food in the Beaverton/Hillsboro area. Perhaps I was expecting a lot since they specialize in Indian and Pakistani food. While I'm not sure if we ordered any Pakistani dishes, we really liked a lot of the dishes we tried! Some were a bit mild on the spice, but still quite flavorful. The Vegetable Pakora was crispy but heavily battered. The Lamp Chops were seasoned well but a bit chewy. My favorites were the Chicken Biryani and Tikka Masala, both dishes were packed with flavorful spices and paired well together.

I enjoyed their food. Zaiqa had good flavor, their medium spice was subtle and isn't a burning your mouth kind of spice. The raita was solid and I appreciated how their mango lassi wasn't too sweet. The goat curry had annoying cuts of meat that were hard to separate the fatty parts and wasn't the most tender. I recommend the cheese garlic naan, it's not too cheesy. The biryani didn't have much chicken but it was nice that the goat curry came with rice. Service was good.

This is definitely the place that will satisfy any desi cravings you have in Portland! There are several different types of curries to choose from (even achari, one of my favorites, which I have a hard time finding in a lot of places). You can add any protein of your choice to them and they seem to be very vegetarian/vegan friendly with tofu/paneer options! They have a spice level you can customize for each curry (I chose spicy and it was indeed spicy). Other than the achari chicken, I also have pictures the chicken 65 and garlic cheese naan which I totally recommend. The chicken 65 is super saucy btw which I didn't expect but it was still great! I ordered take out and the service was quick to bring out my order at the ready time. The food was still fresh and hot when I got back home. I hope I can dine in another time (as the space looked nice, with lots of outdoor seating) and try their whole menu!

Stuffed breads - Unique flavors

The name made me visit from the diagonally opposite side of the town... and O B'boy ain't I happy that I did! I insist that you try their stuffed breads and just enjoy my them warm - with your eyes closed... yummm - don't need any curry or daal. I loved them! Then, there are couple of items I didn't see on many other Indian restaurant... one is "Achari" (typically means pickled ) but don't you get fooled... this is a full body curry (with veg or meat options) with a very distinct and attractive after-taste and aroma! The third thing that I found very distinctive was the use of Methi (fenugreek leaf actually) - a very favored herb from Western India... that pungent sweetness brings your pallet to such an elevation - that's the one I'd try first before Aachari. I did notice they make all items from scratch - kinda unusual for lunch. Ah - they need to upgrade their ventilation in the kitchen... I felt. The server (sorry forgot your name buddy) was very respectful... need more people like you man!

Where it went.

I don't know what's going on with the rave reviews for Zaiqa, but based on my recent visit, either the standards have nosedived or there's some alternate-universe version of this place I didn't get to experience. The naan--usually the pride of an Indian meal--was a soggy, flavorless grease flap with the texture of limp cafeteria pita. It had neither the chew nor the char you'd expect, and whatever flour blend they used gave it a strange aftertaste. I couldn't even finish it--and I never throw away naan. The curries (if you can even call them that) tasted like boiled meat dumped into Chef Boyardee-style tomato sauce--sweet, bland, and completely devoid of spice complexity or depth. They didn't resemble Indian cuisine in flavor, aroma, or texture. I was actively confused. The "salad" was a sad pile of dry, fibrous scraps--mostly the parts of vegetables you'd normally compost, and with no dressing. It felt like filler from a prep tray that should've been tossed out days ago. I ordered what should normally be describe as the Indian version of a bento box--a full meal sampler--but it was mostly rice, that awful naan, a few unlabeled mystery stews, and no dessert or distinguishing elements. Everything was unceremoniously slopped into a to-go container like an afterthought. I couldn't eat more than a few bites. I threw the rest away. I'm not the only one--my coworkers who visited had a similar reaction. It baffles me how this place is sitting near five stars. Either the kitchen has drastically changed, or people are rating with nostalgia and low expectations. I'm genuinely hoping this place makes way for a proper Indian kitchen. Zaiqa has no business serving food like this under the banner of "Indian cuisine."

Stepping into it, it had great vibes with some trendy outdoor seating with heating and also some shielded indoor seating. You have to place the order with the cashier and hence there was a bit of a long line (also since online orders were also being served, it was impossible to gauge how long it would take for the line to clear up). Figuring out the menu proved difficult and hence I used yelp assistant which suggested a rice curry plate which came with 6 side dishes and rice and pappadam. Along with this, we ordered the stuffed rotis. The rice and curry plate had some similar flavors to south indian tamil cooking and all the flavors were interesting (especially that tangy mango chutney)! However, I felt that the food was over spiced and was really hot for my taste. We also tried their drinks and I felt it was seriously watered down. Overall, it was a cute spot and love the fact that they are fully vegetarian/vegan!

I've had mochas all over and none compares to the way Joe and his staff concoct the drinks at Tov. The chocolatey-ness, viscosity, mouthfeel, flavor, sippability, sweetness, always satisfy my palate, and the balance of coffee to other flavors is always to my preference. Their drinks are decadent and may take a bit longer to make than expected, and I find it is well worth the wait. I enjoy getting comfortable on Joe's very colorful red cushions, taking in the purple Egyptian vibes within and the eccentric vibrancy that is Hawthorne outside. Fun fact: Joe doesn't believe in plain old ice, and instead he freezes cubes of milk! The cubes stratify into discrete layers that are fun to crunch through, reminiscent of the layers of baklava. If anyone knows which stores carry this item in town, let me know ASAP Food: - The trio of chutney is addicting. The papadums are so crunchy and fun to eat. They're like thin crackers that compliment the chutneys well. The green chutney was especially herbaceous and I liked that - The pork vindaloo was superb. The braised pork fell off the bones effortlessly, and the toasted rolls did a good job of absorbing the curry. I know vindaloo is considered a curry but this dish doesn't taste like a typical curry, it's more like a stew with braised pork in it Ambience: - The outdoor seating is huge, lots of space. The walls are covered with random photos of people and families from the 1970s, signs that one might see in public places in India, a rickshaw meter at the entrance and carrom board tables. The whole place is run by non-Indians so you get a feeling that this is their interpretation of an Indian dhaba. We've ordered the chicken curry thali, the paneer curry, batata vada, pav bhaji, paneer Kati rolls, chicken salad bowl, crispy cauliflower, and the ginger lime soda over the course of our visits. The Thali comes with a dal, roti, rice, raita, salad and a sambar type curry. I have enjoyed the chicken curry way more than the paneer curry. The paneer curry is sweeter and more bland than I'd like. The chicken curry has a bigger flavor profile with a slight spicy kick. The crispy cauliflower was very good but I think this is a special so it may not always be available. The batata vada pav is actually very good but I really would like them to give us the chutney separately so that we decide how much chutney to add. As of now, the vada is smothered with chutneys, which hides the flavors of the vada. Also note that the buns are not like the Indian pav. They are burger buns. The pav bhaji has a tomato soup powder flavor to it, so it looks exactly like a pav bhaji should, but is overwhelmingly tomato flavored. The buns don't give you the same satisfaction that the buttered Indian pav gives. The Kati rolls are filled with more veggies, particularly the purple cabbage, than paneer or chicken. That is not how Kati rolls should be. Purple cabbage is not a thing in Indian food, so this felt like a salad rolls with the wrong veggies. The chicken bowl is actually decent so we liked this. The ginger lime soda is quite nice too. Overall, I would recommend this place for the decor, the vada, the Thali and their specials.

We didn't want a ton of leftovers since we're staying in a hotel and won't be here for long, but boy were we tempted to order a bunch!! We decided on their 3-chicken combo appetizer, chicken korma (medium spice level), and garlic naan. The food was absolutely delicious. The 3-chicken combo was small portions of bone-in tandoori chicken, Afghani chicken, and chicken kabab all served on a ripping hot cast iron with veggies and a lemon wedge. We were pleasantly surprised to see their Marsala fries piled on top- those were so good!! The korma was creamy and delicious. The chicken in both our appetizer and the korma was heavy on the salt but was still very enjoyable. The naan was *perfect*. Service was very nice and attentive throughout. Food was delicious.
