Not everyone can cook great nihari--but this place truly can. A friend of mine was in Streamwood this weekend and happened to come across Zahid Nihari. Since my nickname is Zahid and he knows how much I love nihari, he snapped a photo of the restaurant and sent it to me. I jokingly told him to bring some for the "owner" (meaning me), but I didn't expect him to take it seriously. He ended up dining there, loved the nihari, and decided to order an extra portion to go. Then he drove seven and a half hours all the way to Minneapolis and delivered it to me today. After reheating it, I can honestly say--it was absolutely delicious. I usually don't write reviews for places I haven't visited in person. However, after tasting the nihari from Zahid Nihari, I was genuinely impressed and felt compelled to share my experience. This restaurant is now at the top of my list for future trips to the greater Chicago area. Wishing them all the very best! The food has been great. I've tried the meat platter and the butter chicken. The service is always good and they help you understand the menu options. The place is huge with plenty of seating. I came here with family and had their dinner buffet. The appetizers were pretty good. They had samosa chaat and chicken pakoras. The tea was fantastic BTW. The entrees is kinda where they lost quality. Though there were many good looking options, the flavor wasn't there. It was way too much masala in the rice dish and gravy to the point the food isn't enjoyable. For example the biryani had giant clumps of masala that were just inedible. read more

It was my first time visiting Zahid Nihari, I did order from them before but never had the chance to visit them and I am glad I did. This restaurant is amazing when it comes to food quality and quantity, service, decor, good attitude. I ordered halwa puri and it was great. Comes in a big thali that has allo ki bujiya, chana masala, halwa and puri, the staff was very attentive and was walking around to make sure everyone was okay. The checkout was great. My only suggestion is to improve the bathroom cleanliness, I know people just make it messy doesn't matter how many times you clean it but still a good restaurant deserves a clean bathroom. Zahid Nihari opened here over a month ago. There's free parking and plenty of room to spread out in restaurant. They have partitioned areas for parties as well. Inside is very comfortable and relaxing. It was very clean and they keep the place nice and cold in the hot weather. Ali our server was excellent. He checked in on us many times and attended to our every need. The menu is extensive and there had to be over 10 carry outs waiting at the register and it was only 10:30am! The prices here are excellent vs Devon and the NW Suburbs! We came to try puri halwa and paratha and eggs. All servings were generous! My ratings: Puri's: 5, larger than most places and not too greasy. Delicious! Chenna's: 3, little liquidy vs the usual gravy consistency, taste ok Aloo bhaji: 3, again little liquidy vs gravy type, they add a very little bit of hing (Indian spice) which gives a different flavor. Halwa: 3, excellent smooth blended consistency but a little too sweet for me Achaar: 4, good mango pickled flavor No yoghurt was served as is typical at all the other places. They did bring some when we requested. Fried eggs: 5, cooked perfectly! Paratha: 1, It's made with fermented Khamir flour but not with regular atta flour as a paratha is made. It was fluffy vs flaky and soft vs crispy as they use yeast or fermentation in the dough. Chai: 5, fresh, hot, hint of cardamom flavor. They just opened so I'm giving a little pause and I think in time they will work out all the kinks. I'd like to return and try some entrees. read more

When you first walk in, the restaurant is so clean! We were greeted and seated right away. The menu has a lot of food options. This is a new restaurant... so not all the items are available to order. We ordered two Aloo samosas and an order of mozzarella cheese sticks. They were both served nice and hot and were crispy on the outside and perfect on the inside. My husband Robert ordered the butter chicken with a side of rice. It was a little spicy for him so we ordered a side of naan and that helped cool it down for him. It was very delicious! This has to be the best naan I have eaten in a very long time. I ordered the finger fish which was very crispy / crunchy and delicious! Will definitely order this again! I cannot wait to come back and try more items off the menu. They are going to have a buffet on the weekends... I cannot wait to come here when that is available. Ugh! Poor service! We had to call them over many times. With 5 servers around, people started getting up and serving themselves. The servers were rude and didn't establish any rapport with customers The food was so bad. If this had been my first time trying Pakistani food, it would've turned me off from the whole cuisine. As for the ambiance, we are sitting there and one of the servers comes with a lemon scented floor mop and starts mopping the floor. Soon the place smells like a bathroom. Seriously! Our visit was inevitable. The scent of shorva (you may call it curry/gravy) is like a magnet to me, so I made a sharp turn and moseyed on in. The building is spacious but seating is quite awkward. Thay sat us at ballroom esque tables complete with blue sequence which felt absolutely fantastic on our elbows. We sensed that we were seated here because there would be a party in the rest of the facility. Nevermind that, I wanted food. I love their straight and to the point menu with unique regional specialties. We went with peshwari chicken kadahi, karachi special biryani, plain naan, and chicken malai boti (creamy spicy chicken kabab). Service was fast. Food was hot. All items were very unique and delicious. You can taste the love put into making them. We actually orderd the biryani to go once we tasted the other dishes because we knew it would be good. There was indeed a party going on which added a little mayhem with kids running around us but thats ok, it was free entertainment watching kids steal cupcakes from the cupcake tower lol. This place gets busy starting at like 8pm so don't get discouraged if it seems empty. Desis just eat late :). Papri chaat, bhindi, chapati and butter chicken were good but the nihari and naan were exceptional. Portions are very generous, and the prices are fair. I'm eager to try the kabobs next time we go. Another thing that we take for granted but desi restaurants get wrong all the time: the water was actually cold! My only notes: are they should work on ambience with lighting. It's way too bright and doesn't create an intimate atmosphere for dinner. Also playing some music rather than imam speeches would also be more inviting. Service was great. read more

I found this little gem as part of my quest not having to drive out to Devon. I'm not a fan of sitting in traffic and construction. A few of my friends had mentioned this place and I decided to try it out. The management at Zahid nihari is very friendly and welcoming . Food is fresh and made to order. The food can be spicy, so do let your server know your limits. The flavors are great and dishes are on point and everything is halal! The dishes that I have enjoyed are: Nihari Chicken Biryani Mutton Biryani Chicken and Beef Seekh Kabobs Naans Parathas Halwa Puri Dood Pathi Gulab Jamon Everything was wonderful! I also catered for a party and everything was on point and the delivery team was punctual! My guests were raving as well, especially the biryani. We ordered "Mutton Karahi", which is dish of North Punjab to Afghanistan. Sadly there was absolutely no Karahi, it was just an overpriced Qurma with 90% bones. It is complete misrepresentation. In America wheat prices have not increased 100%, they increase with inflation of averages 5% every three years. Bread is good with double prices. Salaried people get 3% to 5% increase while Pakistani restaurants increase 50% to 70% prices. read more

I want to be fair. I tried this place 4 times. Once during the iftar buffet, once as a dine in customer, and twice carry out. The iftar buffet was reasonably priced and there were a lot of options. However I found the food quality to be quite low. Everything was overly greasy and salty. For dine in, the service was terrible and literally 75% of the menu was not available. For the items that were available, the food was fresh and high quality. Pricing was a bit high. Both carry out experiences were pretty average. The paratha rolls were cold when I picked them up. They messed my order up both times. Again majority of their menu was unavailable. If they don't fix these issues in the next few months, they'll end up closing their business the way they did on Devon. read more

I had seen an ad on Facebook for frozen samosas so I called to VERIFY pricing and place an order. When I went to pick up my order the price was $40 more than was confirmed at time that I placed the order. I explained that I verified pricing over the phone and showed my call log to prove I had in fact called. The employees insisted that I did not ask about pricing. Unfortunately, like most ppl, I do not record my phone calls so it was impossible to prove. I urge Zahid Nehari to either hire employees that can speak/understand proper English to answer their phones and/or not lie to customers to secure a sale. read more
