Not having quoted from TA before, but as of today (25/01/15) they are ranking 6th and the 5 above them do not include Italian restaurants, so therefore are Manchester's top Italian restaurant. All that said upon arrival and entry you would wonder why! Then upon commencement of your courses you can easily see why. We had the special for £24.99 of 12 tapas dishes and a HUGE 19"pizza which we were allowed to do half once topping and half another. 4 of us ate more than confortably (inc a Coke) for only £9 each. Our tapas that we chose were chicken wings, tomato rice balls, BBQ ribs, croquettes, meatballs and bruschetta. Then the huge pizza arrived which left your draw dropping! Pros - This place sure hits the spot for taste, value, quality and friendly staff. Even Bruno himself recalled seeing us one time before, which had to be around 9 months previously! Cons - book well in advance to avoid disappointment (although a good friend of mine just before Xmas called in whilst driving passed and got the last table... Alex B way to go dude!) and don't be put off by the small bijoux tranquil surroundings! Go on give it a try! Well worth the drive, or the local tram stop called 'Velopark' (immediately after 'Etihad Campus') which is about 3 mins walk away!

When I ask for a mint tea, most of the times I get also a fresh mint in addition to a teabag. The place is not cheap, but I say it's worth it! Despite passing this place on my school bus for 5 years however I'd never spotted it before. I now realise this has been a huge oversight on my part! I went with a group of 10 people for a bday celebration of an ex housemate. The staff coped really well with a big group and we were taken very good care of. They don't put a tip on as standard even for a large group - I prefer this practice, other restaurants please take note! The interior is nice, basic rather than luxurious but this adds to the atmosphere. They have a good drinks menu, I shared a carafe of red wine with someone and it was decent for the price. The menu has lots of choices, too many - I wanted everything! I had the deep fried halloumi in batter. It was delicious, perfectly done but I'd have preferred a better salad garnish, it just had 3 wedges of raw tomato with balsamic glaze. Friends shared the mezze platter and this looked great. Everyone said the starters were fantastic. I then had a steak casserole dish with star annise and cinnamon. The mains come with a choice of rice, chips, salad or roast potatoes. I went for chips and they were perfectly cooked, the rice looked good on other plates too. The meat was tender and the onions in my dish were lovely and sweet. I really enjoyed it. They brought out a piece of chocolate fudge cake with candles and sang for my friends bday, a nice touch. We all tried a bite of cake and the fudge icing was delicious. I had a medium sweet coffee which was the only down side of this meal for me. The Greek delight it came with (a piece of pink sweet very like Turkish delight) was amazing but the coffee itself was very bitter and full of grainy residue. Overall I loved it, really want to go back and try someone dishes. Needs to go on the list for yelp events I think!

Starving and needing sustenance quickly, my trusty Yelp app directed me for a quick and cheap snack to PTG (especially with a great review from our Elite Yelper John L) and I was really impressed with what I found! While probably not likely to be up for a Michelin star anytime soon, it's a takeaway with a couple of tables meaning you can eat in before heading off! As well as kebabs they do pizza and chips, chicken etc but I wanted something properly authentic of the middle east as opposed to just some fried food for dinner. I opted for the Lamb Tikka kebab in naan which was delicious - really fresh, no fat and this was stuffed with sides and sundries that made this £4.50 meal totally leaving me on the verge of popping! A great selection of hot sauces and chutneys is on offer and to be honest the hot sauce was pretty damn hot! My mouth has just about recovered now 4 days on!

Because obviously the beef ones on the dripping, rotating skewer look very bad and greasy. But sometimes when I've had chicken kebabs it's felt filling but now way near as bad as eating a burger and chips. With this in mind I tried out Persian Tasty Grill. The place smelled incredible, but I soon ordered a chicken tikka kebab and my meat was put on a massive skewer and in to cook. It costs £3.80 for the chicken tikka kebab with naan, and it really was amazing. The meat was tasty and succulent, and the salad fresh and moist. The naan was perfect and was the perfect accompaniment to the meat. The guy serving here is friendly as well, going out of his way to help a Portuguese lady with her order when he didn't have to. I'm a big fan of Persian Tasty Grill.

Wanted to check out a Chinese place near campus, and found this place ahead of time. I PM'd on Facebook to see if they accepted credit cards - still had not gotten to that ATM yet - and no problem, they did. So +1 star for good service to reply like that! Food was good. The menu is extensive. We were happy with our choices, but apparently there are some better options on the Chinese menu. It was reasonably busy on the Wednesday we visited, but we were seated right away and food came out promptly, good service. Looks to have a take away counter as well. Prices seemed reasonable and portions were also reasonable. Definitely check it out if you're looking for good Chinese right off campus!

The Plymouth Grove Restaurant is aptly named as it is located within the old Plymouth Grove Hotel off you guessed it, Plymouth Grove. After nearly 3 years of refurbishment, I was very surprised to see the English name of this restaurant being so bland! The exterior looks the same as it ever was (being a Grade 2 listed building), but inside is completely changed, to provide a semi open kitchen, takeaway counter (also delivers) and seating for over 100 people. There is a pretty extensive menu, serving your usual sweet and sour chicken and fried rice, but they also cater for the chinese crowd, with roast meats, flat noodles, and congee. The banquets are well worth the money; we had a banquet for 5 between 5 of us and there was still enough for each person to take some home for lunch the next day. The dim-sum here is good value for money, but the roast meats (those roast ducks hanging next to the window) are also well cooked are the star attraction! For the unadventurous, I also note that they do burgers and chips!
