From the chic decor to the smart uniforms and exemplary service, 46 & York is a welcome addition to the Auckland bar scene! Housed in a brick and weatherboard style villa with wooden floors and TWO outdoor areas, it was perfect for the wide range of ages at the party. What's more, they even let us bring in our own decks and said we could stay until 3am! I'm excited to go back and try this place on normal night out. First off, hats off to the owners for doing such an impeccable job on the decor and design. From the intricate restaurant design, the lush comfy chairs, the menu layout, the mocktails, and even the rustic bathrooms were all very impressive. Now let's get down to the food. We started off with the shumai dumplings with peanut sauce. The skin of the shumai was so soft and thin which I truly appreciate because you can taste the stuffing better. The peanut sauce was nutty and savory and extremely addicting! Next we had the salt and pepper tofu with a vinegar sauce. The flavors here were a bit flat and needed more of a peppery taste but the presentation of this dish made it worth it. The chicken satay was super tender and juicy. The creamy sauce with the savory clear vinegar sauce worked really well together. The ribs had a yummy flavor but the meat could have been a bit softer. I recommend doing a broil for the ribs at the end so the sauce gets a nice caramel. To top it off we ended the night with the mango pudding. It was a hard decision but we liked the refreshing flavors. There was a lot of stuff going on in this dessert, but was still impressed with the details in textures. We hope to be back here one day!

My sister suggested that we try Farside as she had been once before and had met the owner Eddy through friends. Farside is a small bar located down Parnell Road between Renkon and Burgerfuel. If you are looking at a map, it is quite hard to spot and most of the time, you will walk straight past it! We only went for drinks, but they were all delicious! Farside has an extensive cocktail list, which my cousin and I happily chose from! All the cocktails had cool names and interesting flavours, which is something you would not find in a bar/club in town! Overall, the best drinks we had were a Margarita with a salt rim and a Cosmopolitan with a sugar rim (see pictures) - both were yummy! The décor was nice and the music interesting, which we all liked. Farside plays all sorts of music, so it is great for everybody! It had a cool vibe to it all night - we even had a boogie in the corner when Queen came on! They ask you what type of cocktail you would like (liquors, flavors, etc.) and use that information to craft a cocktail for you. Because of this, there can be a huge variability in the quality of the drinks you get. When you get a good server, the drinks will be incredible. Our second visit there, we got someone on her first day, and the drink we ordered wasn't great so we left after one drink. Another complaint is that it does take them a while to get drinks out. All of that said, I'm still giving this place 4 stars, because when it's good, it's really good and I think it's spot on the best bars list is mostly deserved. I don't remember the qualities that I gave to get the following drinks, but on my first trip I ended up getting the Gordon's Breakfast and the New Mexico and both of them were amazing.
