A little disorganized but some good fun.
We booked online because under-18s are only allowed in before 7pm and there were just two time slots remaining for the afternoon. I believe you can walk up, but space seems limited. We arrived about 20 min early for our booked time but we were able to go ahead on in once we got there. The folks up front at the check-in desk gave us tokens to get golf balls from a vending machine - just one of the many retro touches - and sent us upstairs.
We booked 18 holes, and there are 27 in the place - 18 downstairs and another 9 on the second level. So we headed up and got putters on the second floor. Then got behind a group of 8 that were taking a while at each hole. We tried to play through but they didn't really understand what we were doing so they kept skipping ahead of us, constantly slowing us down. It would have been helpful if they'd split into two groups or just let small groups like ours play through. But it seems like once you check in, it's kind of a free-for-all. Nobody really minding the course, which is both good and bad. We finished 9 holes, and even though we paid for 18, it wasn't clear whether we had to go back downstairs to get a new ball or just have our kids fish the ball out of the trap (the 9th home eats your ball by design - which also could have been a problem while we were trying to play around that big group out of order. There weren't really any directions given on where exactly to start (conceivably we could have done any 2 9-hoke horses out of the 3, but that wasn't really explained to us.
At the end, the winner gets to spin a wheel for a prize. I landed on the visor, which would have been a fun souvenir, but they were out. So I spun again and got vouchers for their sister property elsewhere (that we won't likely use). Okay, but the wheel was dry-erase... easy to change if you're out of something?
We didn't get food or drinks, so I can't speak to the quality of either. They have little tables at each hole where you can set your drinks, food, and/or scorecard, which is a handy touch. Restrooms on both levels.
Some holes are really hard, which frustrated our 8yo sometimes. But some are really inventive and it was fun to have some very different challenges than typical mini golf holes. It all felt a little like barely contained chaos, though, which may be some people's vibe, but I don't think it's mine. read more
