I can honestly say that my experience with Dr. Bohn's office has been one of the worst I've ever encountered.
I came to Dr. Bohn after hearing positive reviews of her business and demeanor from a few trusted people. I came to do a remove and replace of my Mirena IUD, which should've been a seemingly simple procedure. I arrived for a consult with Dr. Bohn a few weeks beforehand, as is customary for a new patient. The waiting room was pretty chaotic--at least 25 people at 8:30AM--but nothing I haven't seen before. I saw Dr. Bohn about a half hour after my scheduled time, and she was lovely and knowledgable. She told me to contact someone in her office named Grace, who would schedule my IUD replacement. They were booked weeks in advance, which isn't terribly surprising, but we set a date for the following month.
Upon returning for my IUD remove-and-replace, I was right on time and Grace greeted me. I was shown to the procedure room where I was told to wait for the ultrasound technician and the doctor. I was sitting on that table for FORTY-FIVE MINUTES before the doctor arrived. Mind you, this was at 8:30 in the morning--how delayed can a doctor get? I wasn't happy about the massive wait time, but again, this isn't something unusual for the healthcare system in America, so I shrugged it off. When she finally arrived, Dr. Bohn was able to remove my Mirena easily, but upon trying to insert the new one, was completely unable to do so. I was laying on the table, in excruciating, torturous pain for 25 minutes as she tried multiple times to insert it. She was able to get it into my uterus, as we could see on the ultrasound, but was unable to get it far enough into the proper place. Even the technician was confused as to why she couldn't place it correctly. As she continued to struggle, I kept getting more and more weak, but I asked her to keep trying, as I REALLY did not want to come back and have to go through all of this misery yet again. Dr. Bohn eventually had to stop, as she said she could very severely hurt me if she kept going. I understood completely, and we agreed to put me on birth control pills for a month and to come back when I was on my period to try again. She felt so badly--I do know that. She saw me again in her office and she said that she would organize for Grace to call me an schedule a return appointment. I asked her if she was certain that Grace would call me, she said confidently that she would see to it.
Three weeks on, no call from Grace. I finally reached out to her and she had no knowledge of the situation. I explained it to both her and the Dr. Bohn's other assistant SEVERAL times--the IUD replacement didn't work, and I needed to set up another time to come in. By the time I spoke to Grace, they were booked for another few weeks, so I had to get another refill for birth control pills and there was no flexibility to come in when I would be on my period, like Dr. Bohn preferred. I took the appointment and waited.
Flash forward to this week. I receive a voicemail from Grace saying "I see you have an appointment with Dr. Bohn next week to insert your IUD, but didn't you get the done in June?". I was pretty flabbergasted, as I have explained this situation MULTIPLE times to Grace. I called her back, left her a message (I can never reach her on her phone, it always goes to voicemail) explaining how absurd this whole thing has been and how no one seems to have any record or knowledge of what is going on. Grace left me a message the next day, not acknowledging any of my comments and just said "Dr. Bohn won't be in the office on the day of your appointment, so we need to re-schedule you". ...Are you kidding me?! I called back and left a scathing message explaining that I will not be returning as a patient to Dr. Bohn's due to the utter incompetence of everyone in that office and to inform the doctor of the reasons I am leaving. I feel neglected, shocked, and deeply irritated by all of this.
To add insult to injury, I received a bill in the mail for hundreds of dollars for the testing Dr. Bohn did during my consult. Someone at the front desk input my health insurance information completely incorrectly--it wasn't even the right carrier. At every step of the way, Dr. Bohn's business operated unprofessionally and totally incompetently. I do get the sense that she's a great doctor, but I'm SHOCKED she still has any patients with the way her office is being run. Dr. Bohn might be great for women who have already conceived, but I felt completely neglected and so far at the bottom of the totem pole as an unmarried woman not looking to start a family. I feel like I was put into a situation that could have been completely avoided if I were under the care of someone who prioritized my needs and my health. read more
