Truly was not sure where I was, but it's a across from a Home Depot, no lights or real intersection, but a super hub for the LA Metro bus system, including the J Line (aka Silver). Just off the 110 Freeway, by the 91 and nearby the 405 on 182nd Street. I was pleasantly surprised to see they layout here. Easy to navigate, plenty of signs and like a lot of others have mentioned efficient. Times for frequency on weekends are the worst. It was giving, " All he cares about is school and his mom and his friends (and work)." Does the LA Metro not realize people like to enjoy the weekend also after a long hard week? Thankfully I wasn't going to much further from here and caught a ride over to Redondo Beach. The area is a little rough around the edges, but pretty updated and cleaned up where it counts. Definitely should be some safer walking and crossing areas, outside the Transit Center. Public restrooms are available. Parking is also available if commuting with roughly 1,000 spots. LA Metro workers often around and visible. Great way to get to events, work and functions. Hope times, frequencies and connections improve in the future. You can't predict traffic, incidents or human circumstances, but you (LA Metro) can plan better for transfers and smoother rides from point A to B on their end.

On weekday afternoons, there is a bus every 5 minutes. On weekends, they run every 15. We arrive back to the transit center after 10 pm at times and I never feel unsafe. A ride home if I have had a couple drinks is way cheaper than parking Downtown. It is also a quick bus ride to BMO Stadium and the Coliseum.

Overall, it's a solid line for transportation from Point A-B. It's safe pertaining to engineering and train conductors. The people inside determines your experience. Ride at your own risk. I wished they could bring back a location in Carson like they had a while ago. I laugh every time we drive to Torrance shuttles only to pass back by where I live! I miss that Carson shuttle. I will say this and I'm not sure if this is the shuttle's doing or Hollywood Bowl but over the past few years it's been getting a bit less convenient once the shuttle arrives at the Bowl. We used to be let off at the top where the gates were. Then it was at the top but the bus would start back down the hill and then let us off. Then we started getting let off behind the main entrance at the top with a bit of a jaunt to the gates. Now we are getting let off behind the main entrance and the buses turn and practically head down the lot so more walking is involved to get to the top behind the main entrance to the gates. I'm a walker so it's ultimately it's not an issue physically but I will say that I really don't want to have to walk that distance once I arrive especially since I'm familiar with how it used to be. If it had always been that way, I would never have known the difference...but still may not have liked it. All in all, it is the best way to go!

The driver glances over, then steps on the gas and leaves. You walk to the bus stop ON TIME, they drive by & leave without you. If you are taking the last bus of the night, beware. The last bus DOESN'T SHOW UP and you are stranded there. The "Rapid 7" is the SLOWEST ride ever, drifting down Pico 10 miles an hour. Stopping for 5 minute breaks, pulling over & waiting for periods because the driver says "she's early." If you transfer to another bus, you'll miss it. PLAN ON BEING LATE FOR WORK. Big Blue Bus - SOMETIMES WE SHOW UP, SOMETIMES WE DON'T. But we expect you to pay us a fare.

Big Blue Bus is the Santa Monica municipal bus operator. They have many routes serving…read moreneighborhoods in West LA in addition to their local service in Santa Monica. Route 3 runs from Los Angeles International Airport to Santa Monica. I had a couple 8 hour layovers in LA to and from Australia, so I used that time to visit some areas that I haven't been to in the LA area. To catch this bus, you need to get to the LAX Transit Center. To get there from LAX, catch the free LAX Lot C shuttle bus on the arrivals level of the terminal you arrive at. If you see this bus on the departures level, they won't let you on. You have to catch the bus downstairs. The LAX Lot C bus drops you off across the street from the LAX Transit Center in which you can catch the 3. There are actually two versions of the 3. The Rapid 3 and the local 3. Both cost $1.25 to ride, but the rapid is faster as it skips some stops. While I had been told that traffic was bad in LA and that I should use Uber to get around, I found taking the 3 was pretty good except during rush hour traffic. Even then, traffic was slow but not at a standstill. I made it back to the airport with plenty of time to spare. For the return trip to the airport, follow the sign leading you to the shuttle back to LAX. It is located in the adjoining parking lot. I spent most of my layovers in LA in Marina del Rey which is a good spot. It is not too far away from LAX and there are plenty of places there to eat and drink. I wanted to check out Venice Beach, but the stops on the route are a bit of a distance away from the beach so it require some walking or a bus transfer. Ridership on this bus seems to be a mix of people who work at or near LAX, tourists and commuters. There were some characters on the bus, but typical of a big city like LA. Most people were just looking at their phones while riding. If you have a long layover at LAX, I would recommend checking out nearby neighborhoods like Marina del Rey and Venice. This bus is a good option to getting to those areas, but make sure you give yourself sufficient time to get back. Otherwise, I would opt for Uber for the return trip.

The metro system is my connection to all of the finer things life in Cali has to offer. I can get to downtown LA in about an hour and get to read a book or write Yelp reviews while I wait. And I can drink if I want to because I don't have to drive. Can't beat that in a car! No way, no how! The Del Amo station is sort of my half way point. It's a clean and relatively safe de-boarding spot when I don't feel like rushing or even going all the way into downtown. The swap meet is just across the street and filled with random cheap items that I probably don't need but like to buy anyway. Where else can you get your eyebrows threaded ($8 bucks), grab some yummy elote to eat AND get acupuncture and ayurvedic teas for what ails you? Grab a shake and fries across the street at Del Amo burger and your set for the afternoon.
